For companies like Tmobile I think their 5G is going to allow them to reach more people in rural areas, something they struggle with now over LTE
Yes. It won't be mmWave, but it will be 5G nonetheless. Are they doing sub-6 for this?

I live in Toronto and the big carriers going with mid-band and later low band. Actually, my carrier is a daughter brand carrier and hasn't announced 5G support yet. The parent carrier is supporting it but I will wait until winter until the plan sales show up and reassess then.

5g will be mostly used in city and town centre’s, and possibly just highly designated areas of each city/town centre. I don’t see it being feasible to use outside of urban areas for quite some time.
Depends on the flavour of 5G.

Personally, if the iPhone is missing mmWave, I won't bother buying even though the initial implementation around here will be mid-band. However, the iPhone Pro models most definitely will have mmWave, and that's probably what I'll be buying (Pro or Pro Max).

I was thinking before this month is over.

Apple has never held two major events in one month. If they were to hold an event next week, they would have announced it today at the latest. All rumors and signs point to early October which is only two weeks away.

It could very well be October, but for a Sept. 30 event, they would announce it tomorrow on the 23rd.

The last event was announced on the 8th, and happened on the 15th, 1 week later.

Kinda disappointing confidential doesn't mean anything to so many employees anymore...
Not really, and hardly surprising either. If BT is anything like AT&T and most large companies here in the US, they’ll screw over their employees at the drop of a hat, without so much as a second thought.

And employees will sometimes return the favor 🤷‍♂️

It was kind of surprising that Apple didn’t take the opportunity to introduce 5G to Apple Watch. The technology is ideal for the “internet of things” because of its low energy use, which would serve the Watch well.

Maybe they’re waiting to launch their own chip, rather than Qualcomm’s.

I think it’s a safe bet that they will announce the iPhone during the first two weeks of October.

Apple will not want to compete with the US election cycle which ramps up heavily the second half of October through the first part of November. They need to get good press out before the election news wave takes over. Late November is too late to announce all their new products and still have them ready before the holiday season.

October 5-6 or 12-13 are the most likely days.
Being only a few weeks behind schedule, the launch/pre-orders could come as early as next Tuesday.

It’s amazing there’s room for any “G”! Hopefully there can be a version that can uses less power but at least initially 5G consumes more power than LTE.

I’m not expecting 5G in the Watch for at least a few years, but maybe someone knows better. If/when it happens I’m sure you’re right about it not being a Qualcomm chip 🙂

When the iPhone 5 came out:

"I don't understand the 4G LTE craze, 3G HSPA is more than sufficient for most people. Not to mention, some networks aren't even fully done rolling out 3G HSPA, why begin another project? AT&T's 3G HSPA is so poor in my area."
You are thinking of the Iphone 5/5s, but nice atempt at humor, have a nice day

Same as how a few weeks should be a max of three, not a month or months
But they didn’t say a few days. The US election is weeks away, but it’s not a few weeks away.

A strict definition of days away might be 13 days max, otherwise it’s still “weeks away”. But who knows, it’s a marketing video that’s trying to be deliberately vague.

Yeah, the most important thing here is to understand the difference between “a few weeks away” and “weeks away” well.

If the release of the new iPhones delays a few weeks, then they should not be released later than the first (5-6) days of October.

And if Apple announces its special events a week prior the actual date of the event as usual, then an event should be announced this week or next week until Wednesday latest.

They typically announce the event 1-2 weeks before. If it were next Tuesday we would have gotten an announcement for the event today.

Yeah that’s true. They don’t normally do a Wednesday event though. I believe the few times they did it was for scheduling reasons. Since it’s online, my guess is they prefer a Monday or Tuesday. It would also be unprecedented to hold two major events that close together. But you could be right! We’ll find out tomorrow.

I asked but nobody replied.

I have a question for you all, why Apple’s #AppleEvent hashtag is available until 28th September? Could it be because Apple will announce the iPhone event next Monday, on 28th?

Please, before you run out to buy a 5G iPhone, do some research and determine if your carrier has 5G coverage in your area. And just because it's in Los Angeles doesn't mean you'll get coverage in Los Angeles - the areas with 5G are very small and limited. If 5G is the only reason you're upgrading, wait a year or two when the mesh network grows to a substantial size. Phone companies aren't even maximizing their LTE capacities for crying out loud. Such a gimmick.

No, i’ll buy the iPhone 12 mini because i love tiny phones. I don’t care if it has 5G or 4G, as i am already happy with the speed of 4.5G. Yeah, 4.5G. In Turkey, we are using 4.5G since 2016.

Apple could technically announce it and then release the video the next day: these events aren’t public, they are virtual: so ability to drop it instantly is possible. You only have to look at the social coverage of the announcement. And how they managed to whip up a storm in just a few hours. I expect they have already filmed the event/launch. It would have made production sense to do it at the same time as the last because of the production costs etc. And just actually doing it in the current climate. We’re in a new world where what they have done doesn’t matter anymore. Look at how many product updates came via press release.

Someone here mentioned already that Yom Kippur ends on Monday.

If Apple was doing an event next Tuesday we would have gotten an announcement today. More likely that is the day the next event will be announce (with the event the following Tuesday).

The other explanation is that those custom hashtags can cost millions and Apple just bought 2 weeks worth from Twitter.

Uh what? Yom Kippur is a holiday (for some). It’s unlikely they’d have an event on the Yom Kippur Monday.

No guarantees of course, just guesses, but absolutely nobody was suggesting Monday. Some were suggesting Wednesday as a possibility, not Monday.
