Just fine is just not good enough.

Upgraders like myself who already own the original iPad are looking for the latest and greatest and have the disposable income to do so. Why have an older version when paying $540-$900 gets you something better and makes you happy?

That's really pathetic.

A task that takes me 5 mins on the iPad (checking mails, skyping, and surfing the internet at the same time) I can probably do an a MacBook in 1 minute just because of the gestures... I dont say it's ALL bad, but in my view there is a lot of room for improvement.

Edit: looked at a Xoom Video online. NICE! Thats some nice features. Thanks for the hint.

Yeah, now take the hint…tootles

My views exactly. I just hate using outdated tech even if it isn't obsolete but the graphics performance in games shows that the iPad1 is already falling behind on day one. The future will bring more intensive apps created for the iPad2, the first one is going to choke.

Well. I would always prefer a Apple device over a Motorola because the quality is better. All I am saying that there are features out there which would be a perfect fit for the iPad to make it a better multitasking device, because right now this is one of the features that is not done very well. (dont tell me looking at a little icon on the bottom of the screen after pressing a button twice is better than having a preview of your window/app with a wipe of your finger).

Dear Steve
I have an iPad 1 so I'm gonna pass on this one.
But personally I feel resentful that we didn't get this
amount of ram and the two low res cameras in the first one.
I think that was kind of mean and so calculating of apple given that facetime was almost out. And what's all this guff about specs don't matter it's the performance bla
bla. Surely it's both! I wish their updates were every 2 years instead of well 9 months for this one. That way I'd get to enjoy my shiny new toy before being kicked in the
proverbials and it looking a little sad and so last year.

I thought you were a bit buddhist steve but this is a samsaric capitalist consumerist hell realm you've created
drip feeding us with morsels of techsmack harder to kick
than any crackdealer's. And yeah I'm hooked but wising up to your wiley secretive ways Cr(ack)Apple.http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/smilies/tongue.gif
I will now rebrand the iPad 1 as the iPad classic to hide the pain. And yeah my ipod 2 is history too, no more upgrades.http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/smilies/frown.gif

Also, when iPad 1 came out people were saying "Why do we need this? Using my iPhone and laptop is just fine." But once people get to use the devices, they realise what it's all about.

Thanks for the insight.

I think the iPad 2 is great... I haven't had much time to play with it since I went out last night (currently typing on a MBA). I'm not a tech geek but I do know the iPad 2 looks nicer w/ a slimmer profile and is overall faster, bundled with 2 cameras. That's enough for me to warrant an upgrade. You only live once so live it up.

That's really pathetic.

You sure spend a good deal of time around here passing judgement on others and belittling those with differing opinions. Might be time to consider growing up.

In terms of he refresh behavior, my iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 behaves in almost the exact same way as the iPad 1 in the video. Refreshes needed quite a bit and checkerboards on fast scrolling. Of course, it has 512mb of memory. It'll be interesting to see how much that changes once I drop 4.3 onto it (waiting for unteathered jailbreak to be ready for prime time). I agree that 4.3 may be the big difference and this test is basically invalid.

I wouldn't touch Android with a barge pole.

Can't stand Google, they are so fake.

From what I've gathered - if you want to play graphic intensive games, you're likely to want the iPad 2 at least eventually. Otherwise, I'm not sure how much is truly gained with the faster processor atm. Will be interesting to see Garage Band comparisons to get an idea.

And honestly, how much horsepower is it going to take to implement a better notification system? We know that's likely to be the focus of iOS 5. This isn't multitasking...

I'm curious, as a peds resident, do you utilize an iPad as part of routine medical care?

LOL! Some of the posts are tooo freaking funny!

"Blah, blah, blah.... why didn't we get more ram in the 1.0?"

"Blah, blah, blah... why did we only get 512mbs?"

My goodness.... it seems like some posters here are NEVER happy. Pissed when they upgrade because 2.0 is better than 1.0 and pissed that 2.0 is not as good as 3.0.

My goodness... can you just take it for what it is? 2.0 is a really nice upgrade to the 1.0 and yes... 3.0 will be even better. But guess what? I guarantee you, 3.0 will not be as magical as 4.0 and 5.0.... OMG.... it will blow all of them out of the water!

Oh... cool that the browser is much smoother. iPad 2.0 is looking like a good competitor. :)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

You have a point, but iPad 2's extra RAM should go a very long way to improving apps and user experience. Not to mention it ought to save people some $$$ as Safari cuts back on page reloads.

Personally I think it was a mistake to release iPad 1 with less RAM than the iPhone 4. This release however puts the iPad 2 on a new footing giving developers vastly more resources to build upon. We will likely start seeing iPad 2 only apps real soon.

The iPad 2 is on par with the iPhone 4. Let's not forget that the original iPad came out when the 3GS was the most current iPhone model. We'll have to wait and see if the iPhone 5 ships with 512MB or more RAM. Anyone recall how much RAM was in the 3GS?

Browser is snappier and caches pages better.

My initial impressions of the iPad 2 after a year with iPad 1:

Love it. But I loved the 1st one too. Everything the 1 does, the 2 does better.

Must buy? not really. It's better than iPad 1 but for most peoples needs the iPad 1 would be perfectly fine IMO.

If you need the camera or FaceTime or iMovie then get the iPad 2.

If you want or need to save some money and can get the iPad 1 for a good price and don't need the above features then iPad 1 should be fine. Just wait for the iPad 3 or 4. iPad 1 is still a solid machine IMO.

Yes! This is what I've been waiting for. Honestly, that issue was one of the big reasons I sold my iPad before iPad 2 was announced. Definitely getting a 2 soon.

I'm curious, as a peds resident, do you utilize an iPad as part of routine medical care?

Nope - I'm way more reliant on the iPhone for Harriet Lane and the calculator app! I couldn't carry the iPad in my white coat and we don't have an electronic medical record system on the floor yet. There's still a long way to go in most hospitals before it becomes routine imo.

That said, it sure beats being able to pull it out while on break compared to using the hospital computers for web surfing... :p

I have a hard time believing you'll actually use FaceTime all that much, and simply don't believe that you can't be doing it right now (if you actually needed to) with another device that you own.

Unless that was a rhetorical (royal) "you", I'd say that smacks of arrogant presumption. True, I could iChat with my laptop, but I bought an iPad so I wouldn't have to drag my laptop around with me everywhere. The same way tons of people will buy iPod touches with FaceTime so they don't have to drag their iPad around with them everywhere. I'm one of those people who believe more options are a good thing.

And yes, I do a LOT of video conferencing.

Believe what you want

If you open eight tabs in Atomic browser or Icab they will not refresh. I think this only happens in safari. And is the new 4.3 operating system installed on the the iPad one.

Vasectomy? There's an app for that.

Nice! But who still wears their white coats nowadays? I haven't in years. :p
Bet you could make a killing designing a lab coat with a pocket large enough to accommodate an iPad.

For the first time in a while, I'll be skipping an iDevice rev. I can't justify getting an iPad 2 when I already have an iPad 1, and I don't understand - other than for reviewers or pundits who need it by fiat - what the rationale is for getting one if you already own an iPad. Have to wait a fraction of a second for a page to load or checkerboard to disappear? Nope. The extra 3 ounces of weight is breaking your back? Nope. Even if your justification is needing the better Verizon network (at least in some / most areas, my area included), you should already have the iPhone 4, which has Personal Hotspot you can connect your old iPad to. The cameras pale in comparison to the iPhone's cameras, so it's not that either. I guess it's the "shiny new toy" effect. I'm going to pass on this one, but good on the people who ran out to grab one, I hope they enjoy their new cool device! :apple:

Why is it that a person "should already have the iPhone 4"? Why? If you need to use that to have your argument make sense you have already devalued your point.

You make it sound like you need to throw away large volumes of cash to keep up. If you sell the devices its more like $200 a year to stay current, assuming you sell at a good time which is easy given how predictable apple release cycles generally are.

You're right. You certainly don't need to drop a large amount of money to keep up with Joneses. However, for me, I pass my Apple toys down and never resell.
