safari "No refrash pages .."

i think the refresh issue was related to the iOS and not the hardware since 4.3 came out pages on my iphone 4 seems to save and not refresh anymore that the reason that this demo here did not work exactly as he was planing !:)

since the update i notice safari on the iphone works much faster and do not refresh pages as often before 4.3 if u just reopen the safari with a single page it would refresh but no more after iOS 4.3

:)

There's a big difference between reasonable people and people with no control over their gadget spending, and there's nothing wrong with pointing that out..especially when someone flaunts this behavior as if it were appropriate.

I would much rather be in company of a person with no control over their gadget spending than a person who tries to control the spending of others. And there's nothing wrong with pointing those people out.

This couldn't possibly make less sense, so thanks.

Did you include boot time in there too?

I love it when people mention 'Instant boot' on the iPad. No it isn't. The iPad is technically just having the screen turned off, and still running, properly turn the iPad off and do a boot test.

My laptop boots faster than my iPad 1 :D

And seeing my laptop is either On, or Asleep. It's whatever is closer to hand. That being said I still use my iPad if all I want to do it email and surf the web, even if my laptop is closer.

Maybe Apple is not a non-profit organization and they want to make profit? Like any business would do.

Do you think that would be the reason?

apple is making profit (more than enough) out of everything. that doesn't change the fact that the ipad1 should have had cameras built into it.
i don't know what your financial state is, but i can't afford to buy every year (which is the apple release cycle) a new device with just a few more options and improvements.
i'm just sad that apple gives their costumers improvements with the dropper (see what happened on the iphone). and i'm sure that if there weren't competitors, apple wouldn't even release the ipad2.
don't get me wrong, i love apple and have a macbook myself, but sometimes i just can't justify apple's choices.

I just picked up my new iPad 2 last night and after using it along side my 4.3 iPad it does seem quite a bit snappier and IMHO was worth the upgrade (especially since my job paid for it :D).

It's not just a few bucks. It would also have some impact on the size, weight and battery life of the device. I'm not sure by how much, but I don't think you can assume more RAM would be "free" across the board.

It would not at all affect the size and weight of the iPad.

Actually, everyone I know with iPads can afford to buy one every 6 months...

(and Apple knows it, they stood in line for the Wi-Fi one then again for the 3G one, then for the new one)

The mobile computer "for the rest of us" is the $199 close-out Netbooks (LOL...) :D

I can do that with my macbook air 11 and it plays flash videos too

You have a point captain obvious? I can hold more movies than a macbook air in my Macbook. All 3 are made for different reasons to be used for different things. If the iPad isn't for you, don't buy it.

I picked up an iPad2 16G wifi for my kid because of FaceTime yesterday. I already have an iPad 3G and I am waiting for iPad 3 to upgrade since I don't think it's worth it. But man, was I wrong?! Everything is just much faster and smooth on the ipad2 which makes it so hard to go back to my ipad1. My kids don't want to play with my ipad1 anymore... I am still using my original iPhone and they stopped playing with it after I bought my wife an iPhone 4. I keep telling my kids and my wife that I need more time to setup the ipad2 but in reality is because it's hard to give it up. :(

I don't mind to pay 200 to upgrade though which is about that much if I have sold my original iPad last week.

And I am typing on the ipad2 right now :D

Oh and web pages load much faster with iOS4.3 upgrade on the iPad1 but it's nothing compare to the iPad2.

Why did you buy iPad 1? It didn't have cameras, after all. Did Apple force you to buy it? Are they forcing you to buy iPad 2?

If you can't afford to buy one every year then don't. Like you said, Apple is making more than enough profit. I think they'll be okay with their choices. Are you okay with yours?

This is how Apple is. They have been like this with all their products. Do you think they cannot add a USB port, SD port, top of the line cameras, etc. etc. to the iPad? Of course they can. If they put that in the market now, what are they going to do for the next years? Step by step, slowly. I am not happy about this either but you need to accept the way they do it. It is smart but irritating for us.

Well, he did get an employee discount. :D

Thanks to Ismael. He probably got more tip because of his nice gesture :)

Does your macbook air offer any of the following?

- 3G wireless connectivity built-in, for only $20/mo with no contract
- 1.3 lb. weight
- instant on
- 10+ hour battery life
- 1 month standby
- touchscreen interface that can be used comfortably while standing

For the record, I have the Flash plugin blocked on all my computers. Browsing the web without all the obnoxious Flash ads is quite nice - you should try it some time.

Well I'm glad you don't know me then, I can't afford it. I been saving up since the 1st one to buy one for my wife. I could have gotten one a while back but I am tight with my money.

Great points.

So, I picked up the ipad2 last night. I never had the first iPad. I have to say, I'm a little underwhelmed. I'm really, really not trying to troll. It's a fun device. I know it's not supposed to be a computer replacement, but there are some people on here asking all the time if they can now sell their MB or MBP. My message to them is "not on your life". This is not a product to do any serious kind of work. And by that, I mean common "work" such as PowerPoint/keynote presentations or complicated Excel sheets. And I'm not even going to comment on computer intensive projects like video or photo editing.

Before you toss it, get a few apps on there to round out the user experience. It makes a difference in your perception of the usefulness.

Nothing you said is a surprise to anyone who even casually followed these forums since the iPad came out. Those tasks are not what it's designed for. But if you're being honest, an iMac is a much better tool than a laptop (any laptop) for doing any of those tasks you mention. Not as portable, but double the real estate. Every option has to make concessions.

I make Keynote presentations on my iPad all the time, pretty easy and very nice results, so you're wrong about that. For Word/Pages, I tend to use the iPad dock keyboard, and that works great. As for Excel, photo and video editing, it's a 10" screen--come on, who would want to work on complicated spreadsheets, or do extensive photo or video editing on a 10" screen? Of course you can do it, but why? Keep in mind that most people don't do that on any computer or netbook, except for casual work, but beyond that, that's not what the iPad is designed for, and it has never been promoted as being ideal for that.

All this is not to say that the iPad couldn't be better at getting files on and off more easily, etc. But give the thing a little more time and you'll find what most of us have discovered--it does an awful lot of what you need it to do with maximum portability and ease of use. Plus 10 hours of battery. Go dig up Andy Ihnatko's columns on how the iPad has changed his computing habits.

i don't own neither an ipad1 or an ipad2 (and i don't intend to buy one). i just own a macbook. ;)

you got that right :D
but even apple has to respect EU regulations if they want to sell their products here (usb for charging i.e)

Well... While Safari is vastly improved and I dont see page reloads as often, it still happens. If you load up all the tabs and then do a bit of surfing on one of them, especially if the pages you visit are image heavy, and them go back to the other tabs, you will get the same reloading effect. Also, I don't where the reviewer got the idea that you no longer get the "checkerboard" effect. If you bring up a new page that hasn't downloaded completely yet and quicky try to scroll to the bottom, you will see the same checkerboard effect.

I base my comment about being "underwhelmed" because I'm encountering websites that have video embedded in them and the iPad cannot play them well. I certain don't mean Flash video, but html5 video. The videos stutter and have to be paused every 3 minutes so it can buffer. If this is the ultimate "magical" consumption device that it's supposed to be, it should be able to play videos off the net. 2nd, is the resolution. Let me premise my comment by saying I have the iPhone 4. Perhaps I'm spoiled, but when I look at text on the ipad2, it looks fairly pixelated. Maybe I've been spoiled by my Retina Display. Maybe I'm "holding it wrong" and should hold it farther from my face.

Now before all you cry out troll or "go take it back then", I'm not saying it's a trashy device. It's great for playing around with around the house and just plain surfing the net. And I'm sure there's nothing better out there also. I'm just saying I'm a but underwhelmed and I believe Apple could have done a little better. I wanted to believe the hype, but reality tells me otherwise.

You're underwhelmed because you can't edit complex Excel spreadsheets and do intensive video editing? Give me a break. Also, the video stuttering issues you experienced had nothing to do with the iPad but your own wifi network or the websites themselves.

By the way, sorry but, go troll elsewhere.

where does apple state in writing there is 512 megs of ram. why is there so much speculation. honestly i think the speed you see if from the processor and gpu and osi update. if they did in fact double the ram he would have only gained by saying hey we have doubled the ram. the fact they would do an improvement like that and not say anything just doesnt sit right with me. i just dont believe it.

Still not enough to justify spending another $600 on a new iPad. As much as I love my current iPad, I think the Xoom wifi would be a better upgrade.

Not sure

I'm not sure if it's the 512MB of RAM so much as it is the A5's ability to keep stuff in the background while processing more up front.

My iPhone 4 has 512MB of RAM and I get the "checkboard" effect on every webpage I view. I also get the page reloading when I have 3-4 pages open in mobile safari.

i'm tired of reading all those iTards comments. i know this is an apple site, but come on people, the ipad2 is that what an ipad1 should have been. the technology was available and affortable, but apple didn't implement it. i'm wondering why? ($$$)
don't get at me with user experience and such things. as a power user i want to have access to the file file system of the device and that's something apple doesn't do!
i know, apple defined the hole category of tablets, but i'm happy to see that there are competitors (aka xoom and much more to come) which force apple to be even more competitive bringing better products to their costumers.

@ the guy saying apple could have implemented all this on the first iPad.... LOL

my first point would be that the A5 chip, or indeed any other dual core chip did not exist at the time.

And your ignorant view that it could be cheap to do all this in the first gen is ridiculous, no other tablet had that capability until 2011

You call yourself a pro user... Clearly an iPad is not aimed at you...
