It's a limitation of the Pre, because that's the network it runs on.

I do. All the time. Any time asks me to check the weather, movie time, location of a restaurant, time of an event, etc.
well, let me agree with you for a change. for the 1st point, I don't do data when on Phone.

Pre is coming to Verizon and ATT soon. Can't wait.

Then again, who browses the web while on the phone?
I use maps while on the phone to give directions.

I check emails while on the phone to give details on the phone.

Same applies.

Look, the Pre is a fine device.

But comparing a phone not out yet with one that I bought a year ago is just plain asinine.

Not if there are people arguing the iPhone is better...haha

And you can check email if its local on your device.

I dunno, i personally don't do all that while on the phone. Most of my friends also have smart phones and don't rely on me giving them directions or something.

But thats me

But the Pre is coming onto GSM later this year....so again.

Nor can I. As I have said in many other threads:
I can't wait until my contract is up in a year, because summer of 2011 I'll have the choices of a new Android phone, iPhone, Pre and I'll get to choose between Verizon and AT&T each with a new network. It should be pretty interesting.

Yup...pretty much this picture sums up the future of the mobile industry:

What's the one between the Pre and G1?

EDIT: NVM I forgot about Windows Mobile, and I'm guessing that's what that phone runs. I can't really consider Windows Mobile anytime soon since I have a pretty heavy investment in OS X software, but maybe in five to ten years I'll be able to consider it.

still waiting to see this "desktop-level multitasking" I keep hearing over and over and over.

Amen to that.

Life is about choices.

I can't see me not choosing the iPhone.

But you never know.

My requirements for a phone, besides a phone, are syncing with Google, a good Checkbook application, music, and some fun stuff.

iPhone does all that for me now, so I can't imagine me going in another direction.

OH HELL NO.

haha i hate windows mobile. Until Microsoft proves what they got with Windows mobile 7 they are out of my discussions.

Thats the HTC G2. Two andriod phones up there.

It's an HTC Magic and it runs Android too. Unlike the G1 though, it only has a virtual keyboard. The only thing they're missing in that picture is a BB or WM phone (such as a Touch Diamond2 with 6.5)

still waiting to see this "desktop-level multitasking" I keep hearing over and over and over.

Watch the demo videos.

They are referring to being able to "shrink" running applications and flip between multiple running applications.

Imagine having the GPS tracking you actively and being able to swipe and read an email and swipe right back to the GPS tracking you.

On the iPhone, you would have to close the maps app, check your email, then go back in to the maps app and have it re-lock on to your position and all of that.

So the Pre has it's benefits.

But it is a year newer too.

I love my lbackberry.

But i hope they really fix some of the issues of the Storm if they stay with the touch screen route.

The iPhone, and a bunch of crap phones? That sums up the future of the mobile industry? Sucks... :(

Most of the OS's worth paying attention to (excluding Blackberry and Windows Mobile) are in their infancy, they'll be top notch within the next few years. Yes, this is the future. Soon phones will be like computer OS's. They'll be compatible, but over all hard to switch between. So you'll either be a Mac or PC (but with your phone, and not necessarily those two, or only two, choices).

Also: This is just speculation, don't hold me to any of it.

Umm....what?

Andriod I think just released to early....the cupcake update really fixed many of the issues.

For a free, open source OS...its pretty damn good for not even being a year old.

Lets remember, the iPhone 2G sans App store...::shudders::

I'll stick with Blackberry, WebOS, Mobile OSX and Andriod leading the way in mobile.

I kind of agree here.

Right now, in my mind, iPhone > Pre FOR ME.

But..

iPhone - App Store ??? Pre

Hmmmmmmm.....

Fair assessment. I think the iPhone was really set off with the app store.

I'll be interesting to see where Apple takes it next year.

so you know the guy and know he owns that iPhone for a year and has all the packages you know he has on the iPhone?

or you pretend not to see that iPhone works one page at a time, while the Pre has 5 pages open, all alive?

of course its not free, but sprint plan is cheaper for one. and they can enjoy desktop-level multitasking RIGHT NOW!, instead of waiting for a year or two and bearing the bs excuses from apple! how is that ;p

ok i am calling you out too.. you keep saying desktop level multitasking ... and people have called you out saying please explain and you have YET to explain you just make some comment and dont back it up.. so please back it up or SHUT UP

Not speaking for clevin,

But i think he's talking about the ability to have many applications open while having the ability to switch through them very quickly.

I can multitask on my blackberry but switching apps can be a pain some times.

I could do that on my WinMo phone 4 years ago. When people say "desktop-level" I expect to see multiple things open on the screen at once. So I guess its more like "winmo-level but looks a lot nicer"

Yeah, this really isn't as ground breaking as Clevin is trying to get us to believe. But he's trying so hard, so let's all just pat him on the back.
