When the iMac was about 6 months old I was ready for a new one (My first Intel) I thought "It has to be about time for a revision. I'll wait a few weeks and cope with the G5." Crawl forward 4 months and ...
.............................er....................................................................................................................... nothing. Unbelievable! 10 months and nothing. Ahhh the road map of wonder. ....................

No Update...

I'm at a loss now. Do I wait a couple of more weeks? This old 1 GHz G4 w/ 1 GB of RAM is killing me!

I know I could get a huge speed bump now. But, I don't want to buy and have a major killer design come out a couple of weeks later (especially since I hold onto my machines so long).

It bugs me that there was nothing to do with the imac. It REALLY bugs me that there was nothing to do with the mac mini. But what really bugs me is that there were no new hardware announcments. I could be wrong, I havent watched the keynote yet.

no .mac either

Steve said several things about .mac new services but not the bombshell that was rumored about google/.mac combination.

lots of missing things

i really wanted a new imac today too. Will wait to see what comes up.

This was a developer's conference - why would there be consumer announcements such as the iMac and the Mac mini? Yes, Jobs could have surprised us with an iMac update at the end, but it honestly shouldn't have been expected.

It is traditionally a developers conference, but since the death of MWNY, its keynote has taken its place.

That's true - fair enough. Still though, some people get unrealistic expectations in their head at times and then blame Apple for not acting on their wishes. Within reason, fine, but some people are just being unreasonable when it comes to certain things. Most people here seem to handling things well though, which is good, and a sign of common sense and maturity.

Bummer. I was really hoping for a new iMac. Leopard looks cool and all, but I'm pretty happy with the OS as it is really.

It would make sense to release a redesigned iMac at the same time as Leopard is released. But I hope I won't have to wait that long.
My MacBook isn't really happy acting as a desktop computer.

I wonder though, are there or will there soon be any 24" screens with higher resolution than the one in the iMac? If that's the case then there's even more reason for iMac to be delayed until Leopard comes out.

Along those lines, is the current 24" iMac technically an HD screen? I think it has greater than 1920x1050 (or whatever HD is).

Tomorrow Is Tuesday

Tomorrow is Tuesday, you never know, they may give us speed bumps tomorrow.

Yeah, afaik there is still a veiled banner. I doubt they would make a banner for a speed bump though. So it's either something lame or a new/revisioned product announcement. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I'm keen to buy my first Mac (an iMac) and I must admit to being somewhat underwhelmed by WWDC. I hear the comments about it being a developer conference etc but I too was hoping for an iMac update. The really sad thing is that my enthusiasm is starting to cool and I'm wondering if it was only a whim.

I'm a long term Linux user and am contemplating making the switch to the Mac just at the time when Linux on the Desktop is looking better than ever... Go figure!

What I need is an aluminium, updated iMac in a store nearby which I can go play with on my lunchbreak and get all steamed up about the whole idea again! :D

I'll hang in there for a while yet...

Craig.

Yeah, I was using Ubuntu for a couple of years before I switched to Mac. I have to say that Linux on the desktop is shaping up nicely. I actually like Ubuntu better than OS X. However, I got tired waiting for decent media apps, especially audio apps and a good underlaying framework. It will probably take a few years before linux will be able to fill that void for me, and I hate Windows with a passion, so OS X is a good compromise.

Was there really a point in making a windows product A one more thing?

Yeah, it seems pretty odd. Safari isn't very good compared to the competition, and I doubt it will make a great impact in the Windows world.
The only reason for Safari having such high market share is because people tend to use the browser that ships with the OS, not because it's such an amazing browser.

Calling it the worlds best and most innovative browser sound like MS marketing to me.

Certainly are some unreasonable expectations here, true, but an update for some of their aging hardware lines would be nice. My perception, likely misguided, is that Apple is focusing less on the mac and more on media (iPod, iPhone, AppleTV, etc.)

I worked for Apple ages ago, in the Imaging division. It was a tough time to be at Apple and 1 month after I left the company, Steve came back and decided the imaging business was non-core and closed it down (even though at the time it was one of the few profitable divisions). Tough choice, but I think focusing down really helped Apple bounce back. It's always a tough balance to maintain, between your core and growing new capabilities. I just hope the iPhone pays off...

In the meanwhile, I don't see any new macs that I want to buy and will stick with what I've got for as long as I can. I wonder if sales of iMacs or minis are dropping or if they're still chugging along?

Absolutely agree - and I think some hardware updates are definitely not unreasonable to wish for. Specifically at WWDC, perhaps not (with the exception of the Mac Pro I suppose) but in the very near future, I sincerely hope so.

I realize Apple can only do so much with its resources (and more importantly do it right while maintaining a certain level of quality) but I, too, am concerned about the state of its computers. I guess time will tell...

Yeah, the WWDC seems to have consumer announcements after the Stevenote. I'll bet they still have something up their sleeve.

wow, this sucks. Been at wrk all day and come home to a disappointment. Sucks even more is that I have some credit at Powermax that expires in 2 weeks, was planning on getting that iMac

:(

Well since they decided to highlight the fact that more video games are coming to the Mac, they may want to UPDATE THE FRIGGIN' VIDEO CARDS IN THE MAC PRO !!!!
