Don't get your hopes up. In general, ThinkSecret < AppleInsider.

I'm worried that expectations are too high for WWDC... remember the disappointment last year? We should expect some nifty Leopard features and iPhone details. That's really all we should take for granted. We shouldn't assume that any new hardware will be introduced, nor should we assume a specific piece of iPhone information or Leopard feature will be announced. ZFS? Maybe, but don't be disappointed if it's not the default file system in Leopard.

This way, the keynote will be so much more enjoyable. Whatever happens, we'll be happy, just so long as we don't set expectations unreasonably high.

ATTENTION: APPLE DOES NOT USE BRUSHED METAL FOR ANYTHING. IT'S SIMPLY ALUMINUM. BRUSHED METAL IS THE GUI OF APPS LIKE SAFARI. LEOPARD RIDS THE WHOLE SYSTEM OF BRUSHED METAL.

APPLE DOESN'T MAKE A SINGLE PIECE OF HARDWARE USING BRUSHED METAL. IT'S MORE OF A "POWDER-COAT ALUMINUM" IF ANYTHING

You realize that posting like that is just like walking into someone's living room, pulling out an AK47, shooting it into the air, then proceeding to shout your opinion at the top of your lungs...

.. ok, exaggeration, but no giant red text please.

If you merge Thingsecrets prediction with Appleinsider's contention that there is plenty of the present iMacs in the channel then perhaps it means there will be two versions of iMacs like with the Macbooks. The Thinksecret iMacs will be iMac Pros with the present iMacs dropping in price. If you carry this logic (guess) through that means Apple should be releasing a "Mac" to go along with the Mac Pro desktop to complete the dual nature of their computer lineup.

Sneak peek at new iMac

Can anyone depict what it may look like? Someone should draw a nice little sketch :). Are we talking about the color of the current base that they have?
yes, its rather retro, in fact a bit backward really. perhaps it is faster than it looks....

I dont get it why they would discontinue the 17 inch model. That was the model i planned to buy with the superdrive. I hope they dont discontinue the 17inch otherwise i will scream !!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Not right now

I doubt apple will release a new desktop now. Wouldnt they be trying to move all the old product out of the way with the back-to-school sale that on until September? I figure if there are any updates, it will be mid-to-late September so they can clear out the old models over the summer. If memory serves me right, they did this last summer when I purchased my 2.0 core duo macbook and my ipod nano (1st gen).

Is that an aluminium iMac on the beach?

It would be really nice to see brushed aluminum. This set the stage for the next generation Pro machines to adopt a new finish. I'd like to see a darker finish like tungsten.

I think I'll wait to see if they do indeed update the iMacs and, if so, what specs they have before making an opinion. Hopefully it'll be more than that lousy MacBook update a few weeks ago and a new case. While the cinema displays are nice, I'd want more than that. New graphics cards, faster CPU, more hard drive space/RAM.

As for losing the 17" iMacs, that may be a bad thing. I work in an elementary school and all the teachers in the district (7 elementary, 2 middle schools) are supposed to get new computers. If they drop the 17", the lowest price iMac will probably be more expensive than expected and all teachers may not get a new one. They should keep the 17" one for nothing else than keeping a decent priced one for schools unless the 20" drops to 17" prices which I doubt.

Does anyone believe anything that Think Secret says anymore? They've been dead wrong about so many of their recent rumors from "credible sources."

Most recent example was detailed by John Gruber here.

Brushed aluminum! Exactly what I had been hoping for! Now it all comes down to the dreaded chin issue.

The chin is gone. That is why they are ditching the 17" imac because they can remove the chin in only the 20 and 24" version because of space. The new imac will look just like the cinema display.

2 of the 4 "reasonable" Mac computers for school (Macbook, Macbook pro) have been updated in the last month, at least specs wise.

Brushed aluminum, without the chin and give it video out... and then release a 24" cinema display to sit next to it.

Then give the top of the line a quad core cpu... and we're money.

:)

RIP 17" iMac. It's a good machine for what it is, ideal for casual use. It's what my parents have.

However the prices of 20" and 22" displays have come down massively this past year, and whilst they have also gone towards TN screens as well (not quite as good as the cinema displays) I could see the iMacs at least getting a screen size bump, maybe with the addition of a 22" model between the 20" and 24" (which is still expensive), or maybe a new 27" model.

Or maybe they'll make it simpler. Only 2 iMacs.

And a consumer stand-alone mini-tower! Ahhh, sadly this won't happen.

Great news, especially as I will be in the market to replace my G4 iMac by the end of the year! Aluminum sounds nice and I agree, getting rid of the chin would be a definite improvement - that, and the lack of 360 movement on the display are the masin reasons I actually prefer my G4 iMac's deisgn to that of the G5 iMac.

As for the design itself, let alone the aesthetics, I think removing the chin would make sense from a design point of view. Apple has always simplified the imacs design with all of its iterations. The G3 was an all-in-one, the G4 housed everything in the dome along with that beautiful display, the G5 then took all the computer guts and put it behind the display... For me, the next logical step would be to truly make the computer the display. Make it so that the imac is virtually indistinguishable from the Apple ACDs, other than the obvious greater thickness which would be required. No chin, no wasted space, just the display - that's it!

Even if this doesn't end up being the case, I know Apple will release a great new design and I can't wait to see what it turns out like.

i think this would be a pretty logical step, although I don't see them introducing a non pro Mac pro lol.

a iMac & iMac pro would be a really good step I think, maybe bring the low iMac down to £649 or something pretty low to entice switchers?

I don't care about quad-core, but Apple, give us a real desktop processor already. I don't feel like paying 2-3 times as much for a processor with a slower frontside bus. Conroe chipsets are are available faster and cheaper than Merom.
