:(

I can only hold out until end of July I believe before my bro takes this computer, ah, i can live without the comp for a few weeks;) :(:(

Stab in the dark

if we assume the new imac will be more than a speed bump then they will release it at a special event. How much notice do they give for showtime events?

Remember last year before the Paris Expo? Was only confirmed about 7 days before hand. But the first reports came out a week earlier or so...

So at the very least we have another 2 weeks to wait if it's a major redesign.

So does apple have any big expos or conventions happening soon? :p

meh, same rumor...different month. let me know when the apple store is down or the official announcement is made.

The outside could be either plastic or aluminum, and comes in a variety of colors.

And they can be switched out for other color/material covers.

As an added bonus, the innards are accessible and user upgradable.

For example, say I got one with white plastic. But some days I'd rather have a black one, so I also buy a black plastic cover and switch it ous when I feel like it. Or maybe blue or green or orange or aluminum.

Or maybe they'd save aluminum for an iMacPro.

Remember the chameleon patent that Apple has for enclosures...my prediction is:

You're gonna be able to change your case color as you wish via a OS X preference...mark my words. Black when you feel tough, white when you feel peaceful, red when you feel like listening to heavy metal and so on...it's gonna be awesome and will avoid multiple assembly lines for Apple..!

Or maybe clear with backlights, that could animate in a multi-color light show!

I think the new iMacs are coming sooner than later for the simple resaon loads of resellers here in the UK have been out of stock of the current iMacs for a week or so now, with no evidence they're getting anymore in the coming days. This is not in the re-sellers or Apples interest to withhold stock for a sustained period of time.

Also, a colleague in St Petersburg tells me that a couple of stores over there are not ordering any iMacs; they're saying they're waiting for Apple to send the new ones.

The Mac Pro has HDD sleds within the enclosure.
Why couldn't the new iMac have something like this?
For example, two sleds with aluminum covers at the top of the display.
This seems to dovetail fairly well with the new enclosure purportedly being 2" thick. (as opposed to 1.5" for the current model)

Also, the entire back panel might incorporate the Mac Pro "cheese-grater" in order to adequately cool a decent gaming chipset.
(why make a deal with game developers(WWDC) if your latest machine isn't adequately equipped for modern gaming?)

heres my mock up! Im not super on CS so give me a break :d

I would expect the next model to be close to this, looks good.

I think it looks good too but I am not sure about the same price tag. I hope it goes down but I have been wrong in the past.

I also hope they keep the 17 inch imac and maybe give it a speed lift.

Not that I know of. Expo is 25-29 September, and someone mentioned E3 which takes place next week, but I don't think this is something Apple would announce a new iMac at... I may be wrong though??? I hope I'm wrong.

In terms of stock, John Lewis still have loads of the 20" models but they've had none of the 24" models for a few weeks now...

Good job

I expect you might be right on with your mock up. Only thing I see missing is the iSight camera. Your mock up is exactly along the lines of what I was thinking about in an earlier post.

Mac Warehouse never replied to my email innocently asking if a new one was imminent since they'd been out of stock for about 10 days.

Still out of stock tonight.

Roll on tomorrow because if anything is gonna happen this Tuesday, someone should surely know about it tomorrow!!!

It feels like we're never gonna get this update!!!!!!!!!

Am I really this bored? Quoting myself. Either that or I've got dual personalities... Anyway, if no update comes on Tuesday, I'm ordering the 24" iMac with 2GB RAM and 256 Nvidia 7600. I can't wait any longer. I feel like I'm wasting my life!!!

Oh yeah? How about a 13" iMac G3, 350Mhz, 576MB RAM, 6GB hard drive. That's what I have.

Wow. On my local Craigslist they are selling those for $35. Maybe not quite as much RAM, but I think they are 500MHz with larger HD.

If you ever choose to upgrade you had better go with a used G4 or G5 iMac. If you get one of the new iMacs when they come out, you'll probably mess on yourself from the speed increase. :D :apple:

Exciting.

This is great news. Hope it's true. That mock-up looked great! I'm ready for a new iMac, but I'm waiting until one ships with Leopard.

I'd love to see a new iMac like this:

It wouldn't be that hard to do since Apple fits most of the components needed into the laptop cases already. All they need is room for a bigger hard drive, more cooling, and the desktop graphics card.
