No, afaik the dupont 2pin is not required if the button (3 possible positions) is on the right position.

I bought and added a dupont 2pin connector and it helped better regulate my power (maybe the timings). So you were right about it being a power issue! Now my gtx460 shows up in system profiler (booted w/nvidia web driver package) and so I installed cuda and now cuda z program recognizes all the specs and capabilities of the card. There is no mention of my monitor in system preferences.

I plug in expresscard right after I choose my boot disc in clover. I have my external monitor already plugged into card.

Do you have any thoughts on how I enable eGPU output? Or at least GPGPU (to help with my rendering)? I thought all the IOreg kext stuff was only for the thunderbolt enabling. So close!

update: got external monitor running off the gtx460... now to see if I can get any rendering boost without external monitor... GPGPU.

update: so far I have not noticed any performance difference from just having a second display hooked up to my HDMI out. How might I adjust to get some acceleration from the gtx460 on my external monitor?

Bingo, that did the trick. Looks like it was a driver setup issue. Not sure what file I missed to modify, but this script re-downloaded the Nvida drivers and modified them. Both monitors working fine with the GT 740 now. Just in time to wait for driver updates for 10.11.3.

On a separate note, anyone else seen the announcement of the Razer Core? http://www.pcgamer.com/the-razer-core-looks-like-the-graphics-card-enclosure-weve-been-waiting-for/
Would be cool if it was compatible with thunderbolt Macs. An all in one solution would be a nice option for us egpu folks.

The stock PSU of the AKiTiO has only 60W, which have to be split up between the AKiTiO itself and the PCIe slot. The official support limits the PCIe slot to 25W because of the weak PSU.
But AKiTiO themself confirmed that you use a more powerful PSU for the input and power 75W to the slot (without modifications on the board or circuit). Most eGPU users with the AKiTiO are using a more powerful PSU and a barrel plug connected to it, to achieve that.
Right. I’m using a 120 watt power supply. It plugs in just like the OEM power supply. It just supplies three times more power to the graphics card (75 watts), and my graphics card (GT 740) only needs 64. Though, I guess I could overclock. But it’s pretty good at stock speed and voltage. It can handle StarCraft II on Ultra graphics settings, though I usually use High graphics settings to keep my CPU 10 degrees cooler.

Hey I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm using a Late 2013 iMac with TB1, running Yosemite 10.10.5. I got a Titan Z, 1000 PSu, and Akitio Box, and followed the instructions several times. But no matter what at the end of the install my screen just lags afterwards and doesn't recognize the card is installed.

I tried redoing this multiple times and reinstalling my system and it's driving me crazy.

I think on one occassion the cards actually appeared to be working(They appeared under the graphics/displays in system report) but once I launched After effects my computer froze up and restarted. They never showed again since.

Any thoughts anyone?

I Have the gpu connected to the AKiTiO by a powered riser so the PSU is powering both. I just decided to do whole fresh install and will try again from scratch, hoping maybe.... just maybe... the last several attempts I missed something.

The powered riser could be a problem! Has been a source of problems for many people, because most powered risers are of poor quality.

Your a genius v3nom! I had a spare riser (though I never even thought about it) I bought from another retailer, and it was much better quality. Hooked it up and everything is working easy breezy now! I plan to just modify the AKiTiO and connect the card directly soon though to alleviate the possibility of a riser problem again. Can't thank you enough for a well over looked insight on my part.

Glad I could help! Best stability results are achieved with the GPU directly in the slot and a modded barrel plug in the back.

Hey guys hate to keep coming back like a noob (though i'll admit i'm pretty green at this), but i've noticed a weird random Kernel Panic that doesn't happen too often (twice in the last few days). It doesn't seem linked to any extended time of use, so i'm not sure what causes it. If it helps right now I do have an external monitor plugged into the display port of the Titan Z. I don't use the egpu for gaming, it's solely for CUDA acceleration when I edit videos and animate. Will try an save the error report next time, but I think it made mention of "drv = 1" in both cases of the kernel panic, if that means anything.

Hi.... its an interesting post

i have a question

is it possible to connect EVGA GTX TITAN X 12GB to Mac mini Late 2012

i followed your steps but not working

can you please help me

the Equipment which i use for it

Hey,
how are you powering the AKiTiO?
And how did you install the card/driver?

Ok I see two weak spots:
1. the riser, is it a powered riser? Can you test without the riser?
2. Seems like you didn't the barrel plug mod or are using a powered riser. You really have to power the AKiTiO from the Corsair PSU!

Bonus: Did you apply the paper clip trick to power on the Corsair PSU?

Thanks a lot for all suggestions.......

Finally i got it run.....

the problem was that i was not triggering the PSU...

I triggered PSU with a Paper Clip.......

Thank youuuuuuuuuuu

Yeah, with windows 10 my eGPU is working much better! :D
A powered riser can cause massive problems! Better go and mod a barrel plug to power the AKiTiO from behind.

Hey I just wanted to say thank you to all you guys for all the help i've received, especially v3nom. I reached out to a guy on ebay to help out with a barrel mod (kind of shaky on making cables.) He made me this and is selling a few more if any one wants one:

Just thought i'd share to say thanks. Oh an v3nom I'm returning the Titan Z to get and X hybrid.
