I've had nothing but problems trying to qualify my iMac online. I purchased my iMac on the 7th and the up-to-date site keeps telling me to correct the date of purchase field. I guess I may have to just fax it in.

Same problem, so I put in today's date and BINGO !
I find it hard to believe they would allow you to place the order, receive payment, and only then check the serial numbers. My guess is either they don't care or there's a loophole in the form and it's not correctly checking the serial numbers.

Did you buy an older, discontinued model from a retailer like BestBuy? My friend bought a Black Macbook (from Best Buy) for a significant discount (old model) and Apple needed him to manually send in the AppleCare and iLife even though he purchased it on the 8th of January.
I just realized you were talking about an iMac... They haven't seen refreshes since Mid 2007... You have the current model...No...I bought it straight from the Apple Store. How can you tell if you have an older/discountinued model?
My MBP had to go back as faulty anyway - so my new receipt says the 13th.Well, I disagree so if I were you Kardashian I would not listen to this defeatist advice.
My advice to you is to call the 1-800-MY-APPLE hotline and ask to speak to a Supervisor and ask for some relief.
Like I said, Microsoft usually offers at least 30 days retroactive free upgrades for Office and Windows and tell them as a customer you expect the same.
You bought your computer thinking that Apple would have good customer service for the extra price you pay for your equipment just like any other business that charges higher prices.
Your dollars are hard earned and even though the typical Mac customer is not price sensitive, as Apple gains more market share then more customers will be in the price sensitive camp and will ask for leniency of attitude.
TBH, that's your own damn fault. Macworld was the very next day and if you decided to buy a whole new Macintosh the day before Apple's big show where they announce new products then that's the risk you took, sorry, no sympathy here.
I know this is a little different topic but apple currently offers leopard, iLife 09 and iWork bundled with a $40 discount. Will this most likely continue when snow leopard is released?
Does anybody know how these disks work? Like are you required to already have ilife '08 installed? I'm just curious if anybody knows how it was with ilife '08 up-to-date program.
Bought 08 in December: 9.95
November: 14.95
October: 19.95
September: 24.95
All the way up to the retail price. Fair no?
I just bought a iMac last night & it cannot validate my serial number when I try to get iLife 09
I bought on 01/02/09 and was told by a 'genius' that I would be allowed to upgrade. We'll see. BTW what I was thinking was that I needed my computer.
Stealth product releases are great and all, but if caveat emptor is the policy *and* you don't give people a heads up *and* you charge a 15% restocking fee for even timely returns... then well, you can take your self-righteous "it's your own fault for not waiting until after the [now-obsolete] cult meeting" BS and shove it.
Now, that being said I knew MW was coming and didn't care. I fully expect to get my upgrade. But, I am a lawyer. I can be very persuasive. My 160gb iPod Classic just died during the switch-over from pc to mac [hard drive gave out]. I got it from my wife for last X-mas. You know when I got the Mac, do the math. Yeah, no warranty. That means $180.00 to replace. I was having NONE of it. Nor did I. Replaced. Free.
Don't stop at the first 'no' you get.
