Is the upgrade version the same as a retail copy (packaging, ...) ?my copy of iLife 09 just came in the mail.
Never mind what Apple told you, go to the link below, enter your serial number and put purchase date Jan 7th 2009. Then it will take you to the product page where you can add to cart and buy... It worked for me and I bought my Macbook December 7th.... I even had an Applecare registered to the serial number saying purchase date December 7th, and it still let me...

Aww... I was looking forward to more Apple stickers. No it's simply a DVD in a paper sleeve, and a little leaflet with some instructions.
Now that the retail product is shipping, I would expect to see it as part of the bundled applications on any new Mac, but the apple store is still listing the 08 version with their computers.
Thus is completely unacceptable. ilife 09 should now come as standard with all new macs. This crap of paying 10 dollars or whatever is really cheap.
I am considering doing this as my macbook was bought on 23rd december so It would possibly work. I am just concerned as to wether I would be able to register a applecare policy with a different date after I say it was purchased on the 7th?
And besides... If they let you, you would want to register the AppleCare with a purchase date of January 7th... Longer warranty...
Yes... I know it adds two years to the original warranty regardless of when you register it...Why would you get longer warranty? A lot of people say this and it's due to a lack of common sense. The warranty adds 2 years onto your original one year. Registering your AppleCare on the very last day of you standard manufacturers warranty would give you the same period of time it would if you registered it the day you bought your Mac. It doesn't give you three years from the date registered, it adds two years to the original one.
Oh ok, my bad. Sorry for the mid-understandingYes... I know it adds two years to the original warranty regardless of when you register it...
But if the "purchase date" is October 6th, 2008 it would be three years from then... if Apple says your purchase date is January 7th, 2009, you get three years from that date...
When you register Applecare it asks for date of purchase... Apple knows the date roughly, but not the exact date... I know people that have bought their Macs in October, and they put purchase date November 16 when registering AppleCare and it lets, so they get three years from that date... Obviously this won't work if you're trying to register an iBook/Powerbook with purchase date Jan 2009...
What about us in the UK?
I got my new MB the other day (about a week ago) and just realised that it came with iLife 08... Apparently this $10 update doesnt apply to us and we have to pay full price? Whats that all about???
