I'd say buy now, but don't linger. Once mid-May hits, it's too late because then you only have 4 months until the next one comes out. Since you're coming from a Sony phone, I'd say definitely go for it as they aren't very good phones.

I got my 6+ on Sunday and couldn't be happier. Screen is huge compared to my previous 5, but I like being on the number release and not the S releases. S is just more of the same, but faster/better. I like getting the new designs every 2 years.

I bought an iPhone 6 on launch day, and last Sunday decided to sell it and buy an iPhone 6+. Honestly I don't care about waiting for the 6S or whatever Apple may call it because if anything, I will sell the 6+ and buy the new one IF and only IF there is some amazing difference. Considering the S series phones aren't a major overhaul of the design, I'd say buy now, and when the 7 comes out, sell and buy that one.

I don't know yet, will tell you in a couple of months but s means minor upgrade, full number would mean substantial changes?

Theyve had an 'S' upgrade every year since the 3GS, and I dont see that changing any time soon. so this year is more than likely going to be a 6S/6S Plus

Well, I think I will wait and see what September unveils.

I am hoping that the battery life on iPhones will be further optimised with better internals and possibly bigger battery.

Even the iPhone 6+ has according to many tests, about 25% worse battery life than my Xperia Z2 and this I am not willing to sacrifice.

Not to mention, that Z2 was released April 2014 and Iphone 6/6+ in September 2014 so it makes no sense to invest in last year's technology if new one is around the corner :)

And it will have brand new issues.

The 6+ is underpowered somewhere along the line, and both phones have insufficient RAM. Apple will sort these issues with the 6S and 6S+. Also the 'bend' issue will no doubt be addressed quietly.
The S models very rarely introduce new problems but for sure, the iPhone 7 will bring brand new issues along with it.

On a side note, why do you think 6 plus is underpowered?

I read on Anandtech awhile ago that the 64-bit iOS apps had somewhere between 20 and 30% more memory footprint than the old 32-bit code.

If this is the case why in the heck did Apple stay with 1GB of RAM for the 6/6+!?

iOS 8 runs well on iPhone 5 and for the most part I don't experience much respringing of apps or reloading of browser pages. However, 6 and to a larger extent 6+ users seem to get these issue much more often. RAM is dirt cheap. There was no reason to cheap out on it IMO. At this point I'd say wait for the 6S unless one needs a replacement phone ASAP to replace a broken or stolen phone.

I totally agree. One could argue that Apple were skimping with RAM on the i5 and 5S but the i5 did perform decently. The 5S is 64Bit and the noticeable RAM reloads started with that model and only got worse with the iPhone 6 (and especially 6+). There is no defence for it other than saving a couple of bucks per unit sold.

Sorry buddy but that will never happen. Jonny Ive has gone in record and stated that battery life is not something he's interested in. He wants thinner and more feature packed devices. So don't expect the current battery performance to be increased.

Even if they leave the battery the same in next model and put better, more energy efficient internals - you will end up with better battery life.

I'm going to go against the grain here, I'm upgrading to the 6+ next week. Due for an upgrade, my 5 is running on fumes battery-wise (not eligible for free apple replacement), and with a kid on the way I think I could probably find better uses for my time instead of keeping up with the rumor mill (at least the way I have been doing).

I'll be upgrading two phones in a couple of weeks and both will be upgraded to the 6 plus. Next year's phone is always tempting but Inwould rather enjoy now and can't be bothered to wait. If the next phone is truly mind blowing I'll sell the 6 plus and upgrade again. I seriously doubt that will happen.

Why not just buy a new battery for your i5, say to yourself that you'll get the 6S+ in September/October and then stop thinking about the whole thing? I came from an i5 to a 6+ and there are certain areas the the i5 smokes my 6+ in, and in most of the others areas the i5 isn't disgraced at al. Put it this way, I wish that I had held on for a whole 12 months. At least you would only have to wait less than half that time.

I tend to follow the path explained by the poster above me. I don't plan on getting rid of my i5 just in case the 6S+ has some features I can't live without. OTOH, ever since my 4 I've been on the new design pattern (NOT the "S" pattern), I feel that path offers a little bit more in terms of worth.

Well guess what, I changed my mind... I have ordered 6 plus and it will arrive on Monday...

My reasoning was as follows - I am not going to be playing the waiting game, because I would not buy the new hardware at the release anyway. New hardware may usually mean new problems while current iteration should be ironed out by now.
Also, I don't need more ram and not necessarily faster processor and internals. Camera will be more than enough for me.

I don't play games so don't care about faster hardware and more ram, don't run many apps in background so as long as I get notifications for Skype, what's app and other apps, I am more than happy.

My Sony is fine and does things great but Android got me a bit tired and want to see how iOS performs in the phone as a daily driver. Anyway, I will have two weeks to try and if I don't like it, return it to Apple.

End of story and thanks for help :)

Buy Iphone 6 plus now or wait...?

I just got mine today. My Note 3 was in fail mode, either that or Verizon crapped out on me because my data reception had gotten horrible. I like how the newer OS's put widget like notifications in the pull down. So far so good. I'm not seeing the lag people are talking about after turning on reduce motion in Accessibility. However some go to apps in android like Chrome are not well optimized. Atomic is much better. Don't like the redrawing in Safari but that's what it does on my iPad Air too. Pretty impressed so far but I'll wait a week for final judgement.
