Given the high resale value, staying current with the iPhone line isn't an expensive proposition, so long as you are willing to Craigs List or eBay the old one. For me, that makes it pretty much a no-brainer so there isn't any significant investment to worry or have remorse over.

I was disappointed by the specs and the lack of improvement to the camera (only 3.0mp) and case (hopefully the quality of the case improves-no cracking).

Of course I decided to purchase the phone and I have to admit the 3G S is fast! Words cannot describe how much more usable it makes the phone. It really feels like a computer now especially with wifi. Webpages and apps are great! To me an upgrade is a no brainer!!

That's because they are lying.

I got over 400 for my 8GB a month ago and over 500 for 16GB 3 weeks ago and I'm not lying. You need to look at completed auctions not current auctions. Though the prices have come down a lot in the past couple of weeks.

no remorse here

Very happy with my purchase, and I will be selling my first gen phone for almost the same price as i bought my wifes phone, mine was a 100 more cause i wanted the bigger phone.:D

1st iphone w/upgrade pricing.... so NO! (now ask me when my first bill comes in with the 2 iphone data and text added to it and i may have a different answer!)

Absolutely not. It's one of the best purchases I've ever made. Coming from a 2G EDGE iPhone, this thing just flies. I love the camera too, takes some great pictures.

I wanted the 3Gs, but I left before it was released, so I ended up getting another 3g. After seeing how the 3.0 update really didn't meet all of the hype, I then looked at the other features of the 3Gs. I rarely took pictures with my iPhone. I use a Canon DSLR for that. The video would have been a decent addition, but I jailbroke for video before, and I really didn't use it much.

If I had purchased the device, I probably would not have thought about it much. Since I did not purchase it, and had time to think about it after the release, I figured that I wasn't missing much. Next year I will be getting the new version of the iPhone though. One that I would expect to have a different body and more features that are not common to other cell phones anyway (MMS, video, cut and paste).

They caught up with everyone else on basic features. Now they can focus on real upgrades.

it was WELL worth the money, I LOVE it...

Stayed up all night long last night playing games on it.. woohooo

Only after I did the preorder. Once I had it in my hands it completely went away. It usually takes a week or two. That is unusual for me but the phone is that good.

How on earth to you make money ebaying a 3G when they are only 99$?

If I hadn't sold my 3g for close to $400 then yes I would have Buyer's Remourse... considering I dropped $100 and some change to upgrade it's a good deal..

The 3gS itself is day and night in the speed department.. I can actually be *productive* on the 3gs whereas I was tapping my foot with the 3g model waiting for things to load.. 3gS feels like a real PC in my pocket for once.. Step in the right direction for Apple.

I got $390 for my 16gb iphone 3g. The guy who purchased it was going to use it with T-Mobile.

People still pay big bucks for these phones.

Play with it and then write on the forums again. Seriously, this thing is unbelievably fast and reliable. And why would you buy another 3G if you already had one? You're now locked into ANOTHER contract...

And no, I don't.

NO one told you to pay $500. You could have easily save $100, by getting the 16GB for 399.

I paid $399 for my first, second, and now third iPhone gen, and I have NO regrets. Its the best phone on the market. :)

Yeah, I know how I am with newer apple products. I have tried to justify going from a 2.2ghz MacBook pro to a 2.4ghz. Most on this forums can do it, even though it is complete crap. I had all intentions of getting the new iPhone.

The release date happened to be 3 days after I left the US. I sold my old 3g in prep, but things didn't work out. Had I purchased when I wanted to, I would have been on the forums just like most of you. Since I was forced to weigh the options, from 3g to 3gs is really no big deal.

Sure, people who don't have cameras and video recorders are delighted. If anyone "needed" these features they would have already had other ways to accomplish this. Yes, the 3gs is faster. If speed was a deal breaker, no one would have had the original iPhones. I got a compass in my car, and there are voice control apps.

Realistically, the upgrade wasn't dire, nor is there an obvious advantage of having the 3gs. More power to the people that were able to off thier 3g for decent prices.

It's a great phone, but it's not worth $500. You guys should have waited.

I bet you're the kind of person who spends his/her whole life "waiting". If so I feel sorry for you because you're missing out on the journey.

Some people are so presumptuous. Worth is completely subjective and is based on so many things... psyche, net worth, peer pressure to name a few.

I paid almost $600 for my 32GB with tax and apple care and absolutely love this phone. Anyone who says "the 3G is just as good" most likely can't afford the 3G S and are trying to soothe their aching egos. The 3G S blows the last 2 iPhones completely out of the water. The 3G S now blows any current brand smart phone out of the water IMHO.

I'm not knocking you if you can't afford it believe me I'm not a $ snob. But I will be right here with a post for those of you knocking those of us who can afford to pay the early upgrade fees, saying things like "it's not worth paying all that money for a minor upgrade". Well to many of us it is worth it. I work hard and I work smart to be able to afford myself new tech rewards once or twice a year. The rest I spend/save wisely on and for my family. This way I feel I truly deserve the few geek toys I get every now and then.

In short no buyers remorse. This phone is everything promised and more. The much faster overall speed, the video recorder, the 3MP camera with focus, even the sketchy on any/all mobile device voice control is way better than I thought it could be. I'm very happy with my new gadget.

I haven't received my phone yet but as long as I get a buyer for my 3G after my 3G S comes in, I won't regret it at all.

Absolutely worth it.

Went from 8gb 3G --> 16gb 3GS

Sold my jailbroken (and in consequence unlocked) 3G on ebay for $400.

Paid $199 + tax for 3GS.

$400
-$200ish
---------
= awesome

For MAKING a little under $200, I got a new phone that's faster and smoother then the predecessor. No remorse at all. In fact, my only remorse is maybe not getting the 32gb.

Oh well, next year I do the same thing and get a new one : )

There is no buyer's remorse here. I love this phone. It really is faster. The keyboard doesn't stick, apps open faster, browsing is faster, camera is better, video kicks ass, the compass orientation of maps is cool. I can't wait for TomTom and the car kit to become available. :D
