I absolutely loathe the new calendar. Its really the only reason I'm not happy with ios7. The calendar was easily my most used app. And like others have said, the little dots don't do me any good as I have multiple events every day.

Throughout all the betas I figured they would just be re add in the preview window at some point. Very disappointed they didn't.

I've downloaded every other calendar app and so far my favorite is Fantastical. If they update their UI to match ios7 soon, it would be even better.

I'm waiting to see if Fantastical's iOS 7 update looks great. If so, I'll probably ditch the stock calendar, though I hate not having the date on the calendar icon, and I don't like the date on a badge.

Who thought that only showing list view if you tap the search icon was good functionality? It's completely counterintuitive.

Calendars 5 by Readdle?

Has anyone here used Calendars 5 by Readdle yet? If so, what are your impressions?

I, too, think the iOS 7 calendar app is a little lacking (especially since they took out the month + list view), but I now exclusively use it over Fantastical because the stock calendar app provides a visual timeline of my day/week instead of just a list (i.e. using the app in landscape where you can see free time, length of events visually, overlapping events, etc.). However, I really miss the natural language processing of Fantastical.

In a nutshell, does Calendars 5 provide "visual" day and week views similar to the stock calendar app?

I used Calendars + and really liked that app so when they emailed me about the update I jumped. I like the aspect that allows you to type go to xxx at 7 and it will fill the right time in. Look for this on IOS 8

Are talking about Calendar+ or Calendar 5?

I can't find Calendar+ on the app store. Must be my cold medicine.

Calendar+ was removed once Calendar 5 was released.

From looking at Readdle's website, it appears that Calendar 5 does have a visual timeline for the day view, but it only has a compacted view for the week (no spaces to indicate free time, all events are represented as equally-sized boxes regardless of duration). :(

It's fine on the iPad but on the iPhone the calendar is bloody awful.

Where is my lovely list view?

The day view is horrible. Never liked it.

I just loaded the GM of iOS 7 and this is my first day of playing w the new iOS. While there are aesthetic choices I don't love (too many animations, too much white) the only thing that really puzzles me is how unhelpful the new calendar app is: I loved the interface where I could see the entire month plus a listing of the days events below and that is gone. Now there's a lot of pressing and swiping just to see the days events, and if you want a list of events for the month/year you oddly have to press the search button to get there.

These seem like terrible choices. Or does everyone else like the new calendar?

What do you think the chances of Apple reverting to some of the old modes which were more helpful?

(Hope this hadn't been discussed too much, I did a search and didn't find anything)
The new Calendar is absolutely awful.

I use it all the time and I actually regret upgrading to iOS7 because I just lost use of the one app that I actually used the most in my daily life.:(

Working as intended. Only apps with statistics showing mainstream daily use got functional design. Everything else was easy to redesign to look like part of the whole OS without any requirement to put real effort in.

I am agreeing with everyone, I hate the new Calendar. I used it all the time. My question is if I go with something else like Fantastical - what about on my macbook pro and ipad....will they still sync and where will my old info be? I can not believe they have changed it, I have been using it since 2008!:(

New calendar is pretty... useless. The old calendar in month view gave you all the info you needed about the day and month. The iOS 7 calendar is a big step back from that and gives you nothing. It's one of the elements of iOS 7 that I don't think Jobs would have approved of -- not the look, but the fact it's simple looking yet clumsy for the user to get all the info needed.

Fortunately, Calendars+ was free a while back and I d/l'd it just for the heck of it even though I never used it. It's now my default calendar. Hopefully Ive will go back to the well on this for a future iOS 7 update or iOS 8 1.0.

What happened to the increased functionality that was supposed to come with the new calendar app? Specifically I remember that you were supposed to be able to add geo-locations to an event so your calendar would block off time for you to drive to the event.

Am wondering the same..

Must admit I massively prefer the new design; calendar was one of the things I always found very bad on iOS!

Anyone get the geo location working in calendar?

You may be thinking about OS X Mavericks. In that calendar, if you create an event and add the address of the location, the calendar will calculate driving time from where it assumes you'll be at the time of the event (usually work or home). It'll then pad the event with the travel time.

Someone beat me to it but calanders 5 by readdle looks really interesting, especially the smart language entry thing.
Calendar is the only item in iOS7's design that I definitely don't like -- enjoying everything else. I settled on Calendar 5 too, but it won't do invitations.

You're welcome.

I agree. Too minimal. I miss being able to see from the month view events on each days, instead of just a vague dot with no information whatsoever. Agenda view is just another tap to have to do.

The calendar was the first thing I noticed I hated about iOS 7. Love everything else so far... but this calendar business needs to be reworked.
