I like these, and literally every time someone does a blind test - the winner is iPhone. If they do indeed add triple lens this year, make their usual tweaks and perhaps up the pixel count and add ultra wide then it will be very impressive.
I’ do agree both look great - I’m just surprised that with more pixels, more cameras and newer tech - Samsung was unable to beat iPhone.

Don't forget about Dxomark the scientific experts have deemed Samsung the winner of these two phones.o_O

LOL! Seriously, I just startled people here at work by laughing out loud. Now they are staring at me.

Thank you for the humor :)
Said the guy who:
1) isn’t a developer
2) doesn’t own shares in Apple
3) thinks Apple cares.

Almost all A for me - it just looked better to my 56 year old eyes. Now I'll go watch the video to find out which photos are samsung and which is apple - I'm scared.

Yikes, all the posts on the first page of people stating there is really not much difference or that they prefer photo A by a mile. Cringey to read! Look at the halo’ing effect on the sun in the clouds in the iPhone photos vs. the solid white outline of the sun with Samsung’s phone. Look at the brightness of the snow in Samsung’s photos vs. the cold blue-tinted look in the iPhone photos. Even look at the color temperature in the cup and desk photo - it’s much more natural in the warm tones rather than the cold tones used from the iPhone software. Yuck.
Sadly what's happening is that MR is unmistakably biased.. for obvious reasons, and even when your own eyes tell you different, some folk are so obsessed to the point that evil Samsung can't hold a light to Apple. NO matter what... that they will us i gloat in the false prophecy that the xs takes a picture as good as the s10. Sad thing is they know it do doesnt , and still pretend it does. Even sadder.. is that it really doesn't matter... xs is still a good shooter in its own right.

To the MR staff, when posting comparisons, instead of just using Wide, Tele, etc, to describe a lens, please ALSO include the 35 mm equivalent.

That's important information that's missing in many such articles on the Net.

This is contest of the post processing software, not hardware.

Shoot some raw photos, and learn to do post processing yourself. Software that processes these photos is not the best for everything, it can make some scenes look awesome, while some can look bad, which might not be the hardware's fault. (the only exception is Google Camera, which is unique to Pixel phones).

The iPhone must suck in low light. They're always favoring Apple stuff. Which takes their credibility... Samsung takes better pictures.
IT'S FINE!

I find it interesting that the iPhone cup and sign photos look hideous. All that blue tint. Just look at the wall behind the cup and the sky behind the sign. It's a cloudy day not a clear sunny day. The wall and sky should be whiteish.

Other than those two photos , the iPhone is miles better. Impressive tech seeing as it's 2 lenses vs 3.

Should've done more interior, low light shots and various skin tones for real testing though.

I’ve been playing with S10+ for a week now and all I can criticize about Samsung is that colors are more saturated than iPhone but sharpness of objects at distance, low light performance (lack of digital noise - grain) , better zoom, not having lines coming out of street lights at night, better contrast when shooting objects with light behind and being able to shoot raw, Samsung leaves iPhone in the dust.

They look quite evenly matched to me. Not just from this comparison but others I’ve seen on YouTube. The S10 plus is better in low light and has the wide angle lens. The colours are also better on the S10. The Xs max has better portrait pictures and selfies. I don’t care about selfies but I do like taking portrait pictures. They are both great cameras.

It takes about 10 seconds to sort out photos in preview , so I’m more than happy with my 8 plus camera thx.

Not massively impressed with either of these.

They are

The difference these days for all smart phones is small. Even the pixel as the best camera by most the difference between that and the S10 plus is very low if at all depending on the pictures.

Wide angle is great and will be a great used feature for me.

there should be test pattern used to compare cameras and lenses
Test patterns miss exactly what has made smart phone photography so interesting in the last 2 years, which is post processing. Starting with simulated DoF through reprocessed colors to picking the best frame and even modifying geometry. Most of these comparisons are about how the AI goes beyond just the physical camera system.

That’s a good point. Computational photography has changed the landscape of photography, doing in power what it takes $100s if not thousands of dollars.

Agree. Would have been interesting to see it compared to the Pixel as it seems to have the best after processing.

The cup and the photo of the person showed how there is still a lot of things to improve on software side for both of these companies.

What struck me about the 3rd and 4th images was how much blue was in the apple photos. The white balance on the Samsung seems a good bit better to me.
True, but isn’t white balance adjustment easy to do in post-photo editing to suit one’s own taste? I look at this contest a bit differently - what would get me to an end result that I like best.
