newer iphones the camera is bulging alot and easier to get hits before the cover.

And I've had every one of those phones including the 7 plus.

On the phones where the lens sticks out it's actually probably harder to scratch under normal circumstances.

You are more likely to scratch the aluminum around the lens glass then the glass itself.

No, it's like buying cubic zirconia (pure) and getting diamond (impure). :D

The reality is all the sapphire being discussed is synthetic.

Pure... BS. Natural diamond has a mohs hardness of 10 while man-made cubic zirconia is about 8. There's also a cost difference.

Guess you need to read the topic to see everyone is arguing against that. Its glass with sapphire laminate.

Sorry man, its sapphire but a really weak version of it. Not glass. And im on team scandal.

And the main purpose of the thin layer of glass is to help prevent shattering.

If Apple ever does the front of the iPhone screens with sapphire then you will be getting glass sandwiched between sapphire as described in their patent.

the sapphire on the watch was tested with a diamond/hardness meter.

and i've never ever scratched the lens on my 5s, 6plus, 6splus, 6s, or SE

or the home button. but i've seen one cracked when i worked at the genius bar.

Did you happen to see my second sentence? The first one was a joke as indicated by the smiley.

That's not a hardness meter. It measures thermal conductivity.

Donald Trump says "It's the GREATEST Phone and sapphire laminate lens combination EVER in the History of iPhone. It's a HUGE, HUGE advantage for all who can afford to buy one. I can afford to buy millions, why, because I'm the BIGGEST, RICHEST, and GREATEST person who has ever lived in this ENTIRE GALAXY, and who also loves the color ORANGE. If I GET ELECTED, IT will BE FREE ORANGE iPhone 7s for ALL."

when you get the first scratch, you will do.

that was talked about years and years ago when the capasity was small and someone actually cared about it. Now they have it on the area of small printed text. check the number 1. on the bottom of the page.

many factors also includes the way the space is calculated. 256gb is only the marketing term.

Ya. It was such an eye roller with multiple threads started daily about it. Why do you think Apple started declaring 'space usage' on thempage?

It's the same basis. Apple declares one thing and people fly off the handle if it doesn't fit their own personal definition.

On the phones where the lens sticks out it's actually probably harder to scratch under normal circumstances.

i feel opposite way because it is exposed to the materials "before" the body and the phone actually lays on the cam when the phone is on its back. just an example, you are having a drink in a bar which has tables made from stone/concrete and you put your phone on the table. then your drunk friend comes to talk with you and push your phone getting it sliding on the table.... but yeah, i do also believe that under normal situations you wont get scratches on the lens cover.

yes, aluminium is quite soft material and it will show some marks before the lens cover. for example i have accidentally hit my wrist agains concrete walls/tiles (many times) and my wrist watch doesnt show any marks on its premium quality sapphire glass but i see tiny marks on the steel around the glass.

......and where do the legal matters usually rise from?

People complaining about issues they have with a product.

so? you asked why people dont complain about 256 not having all of it - a normal user doesnt know or care (some gigs doesnt matter for them) and then tech savvy customers already know it.

when phones and computers had smaller ssd's, the difference between actual and marketed space was huge and significant. Now when we have much larger ssd's, no one cares... but all companies have the small printed text about the free space.

I never asked why people didn't complain. Please read again.

I STATED that I was surprised the issue didn't come up.

I also think it comes down to how you treat your iPhone. I never set my iPhone flat on any hard surfaces. I have never scratched my iPhone lens cover ever, Saphirre or not. Mainly because I care for my iPhone and they stay in mint condition. And I never use cases. Your mileage may vary based on how you care for iPhone.

This thread has been going for so long that I hope everyone who is a horse owner went out and checked on their horse's well-being.

Are you serious? Go and look at their posts, literally the last 140 or so are filled with complaints about either the lens or the screens, and the last thread they started was about how they returned their 7 and went back to the 6s.
Yeah I'm serious. Over the years the posts aren't all bad. Even started a thread about how much he loves iOS 10.

My point? This isn't troll account, as seems to be implied.

If you looked at my account around the time iPhone 6 Plus was king you may even conclude, based in my last 100 some posts, that all I did was complain. I hated that phone. And I was an idiot to have kept it. Ultimately my own fault. But I was pretty vocal about it.

Either way people with varying agendas came in here to cause a ruckus. The entire thread was started to point out the lenses inst sapphire. And it snowballed into what it is because people feel the need to tell others how to feel about something.
