Yep that's what I think too. Apple always looking to shave a dollar. That said, Samsung is no better.
corners being cut, either intentionally or indirectly (there are many possible reasons) .

But again, when you see their response towards warranty or complaints and they just dismiss us, it points to them knowingly doing this for profit, and then just plain telling us they won’t be doing anything different next year.

From now on I will always do a thorough inspection of any Apple product I buy before leaving the Apple store and if there is an issue I will immediately ask for a replacement or do a refund within the 14 day period.

"Even Longer" can do 30 seconds night mode. It can do regular raw so you can handle all the processing yourself in lightroom or similar app.

For "ready baked" images with automatic processing I think stock is still superior.
How close does Even Longer “night mode” get to a proper native 30s night mode on the stock app?
I’m contemplating paying for the pro mode but it’s rather expensive (for me).

Assuming it’s free from the blue plague of course.

I’ve already paid for the app and just found out that even the “night mode” is a subscription thing 😳

Strange thing. I don't get blue smudge anymore on 30 seconds exposure table test. I am on iOS 18.1.1 and tested it right after it was released and I had blue haze. Tested it yesterday and today several times and I get pitch black pictures with some amount of white, blue and red hot pixels. The conditions were the same. I can't explain it. I don't believe Apple pushed any update without me knowing it. But the fact is I can't get blue haze pictures with long exposure table test anymore. Can anyone test it and confirm / disprove?

I still have blue screen/striping 15PM on 18.1.1

Still blue on mine, same as last week. I suspect you have accidentally used ultra wide angle camera.

It seems there is an update note in iOS 18.2 RC that might address this issue…

  • Fixes an issue where Night mode photos in Camera could appear degraded when capturing long exposures (iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max)
I guess we shall find out soon enough but I have my doubts still.

Has anyone tested if 18.2 RC fixes/improves it? Zollotech mentioned something about Apple addressing this in their "Bug fixes".

Hope Apple knows the 16Pro/16PM aren't the only phones with this issue. My 15PM has the issue too

New video from Shayne testing the iOS 18.2 fix

That's awesome news! I will test later today, when 18.2 officially hits.
It would seem Shayne's video matches Husky's observation above. There is now shades of red and blue but now it's become much more usable.

You can see the most bottom of the last pair of comparison near the end of video.

I too am very much looking forward to see getting 18.2 myself

I've commented, but that's what I saw. Here is my comment:

@6:34 - iPhone 15 Pro looks worse. Look top in the middle where the tree is. It's blue on 15 Pro. Also 16 Pro has more detail. Just look at the tree branches.

Yes, I can see the bottom is a bit of red, but It's good enough + probably more updates will follow for cleaning dark/shadow detail. This you can easily clean even afterwards, since there is nothing there anyway.

It’s gone from blue to purplish red. I guess that’s an improvement. Now, is the underlying problem software related, or are they attempting to mask a hardware problem with software?

Very disappointed with 18.2, as I never had this issue before, but now when doing the “face-down test” with 30 sec exposures, instead of pitch black I have either a red or a blue mess all over the place. I am thinking of going back to 18.1.1 while they still sign it.

I am seeing worse results in iOS 18.2?

People with no problems previously and now the problem is present?

Interesting.

Yes, sadly.

Now the thing is that I look into options to revert to 18.1.1 while having my apps and data untouched, but no luck so far finding a way straight forward.
Do you guys have any suggestions for any third-party PC apps that one can rely on (free or paid)? I have already tried with 3uTools - Easy Flash method, but the phone suddenly got stucked on Apple logo with the loading bar below, then force restarted in DFU mode - I was able to eventually revive it by updating 18.2 through Apple Devices app.

I now have a chance to test side by side with my wife’s iPhone 15 pro.
Previously the blue was a lot and now it is less generally.

But for really very dark scenes it is still unusable compared to the 15 Pro. I don't know about astrophotography yet because I rarely get the dark skies conditions where I live.

They have not fixed this completely yet, they have just maybe added a shade of usability to the 30s mode. You'd have to have some form of lighting.

If I had to do this and its dark, I will make sure to put it into raw mode.

They have surely tried to limit the issue with post processing and forcing a lower ISO on images. But they can't solve it completely with software as it is 100% a hardware problem.
