They have surely tried to limit the issue with post processing and forcing a lower ISO on images. But they can't solve it completely with software as it is 100% a hardware problem.
They have surely messed something up, breaking also the unaffected ones in the process.

I had this blue haze issue even on 18.1.1. Then all of a sudden I started getting pitch black pictures with the same conditions. And, no, this wasn’t ultra wide lens as it was suggested here and I double checked that and made table test the other days too. It became black. I have now blue with red or blue or red haze all over the picture after updating to 18.2. I noticed that now I get even higher ISO, previously it was 8000, now it is 10000. I never had it on the whole picture and now it is even worse than it used to be and I would also want to downgrade to 18.1.1.
One of my colleagues with the 16PM also was doing this test with his phone and he got pitch black pictures on each iOS version and I assumed his phone was not affected.. until he updated it to 18.2. Now he’s got blue-red haze on the whole picture.
Has anyone found the way to downgrade to 18.1.1? Of course I didn’t make a backup before updating..

Do you see the artifacts when shooting real life night shots or only while performing the test scenario?

This is what I forgot to mention. I didn’t see any artifacts on 30s exposure pictures before updating to 18.2 while table test gave me some blue smudge. Now I definitely see them all over the dark parts of the picture. They are blue-red / purple instead of dark. These long exposure pictures have became completely unusable.
While 30s exposure pictures are now junk, I do not see any problems on 10s exposure pictures.

10s has never really been an issue. Even on day 1 of my affected phone it was only 3% of the edges being blue. The problem is you can NEVER have 10s shots consistently. And 10s are not enough for astrophotography.

Here's the tutorial for downgrading to 18.1.1 (even if you do a fresh backup now from 18.2, you can change the iOS version in the Info.plist file): https://forum.betaprofiles.com/t/how-to-downgrade-ios-18-2-beta-to-ios-18-1-without-data-loss/8778

Thanks a lot! I will downgrade and then wait for Apple to really fix it before updating to any other iOS version.
You're welcome. I am also tempted to downgrade, but how would we know in our particular cases if it will be fixed or not in the next iOS releases? We can't stay on 18.1.1 forever...

Yes, blue banding is still there. I know nobody really mentioned the issue until the 16 Pro/Pro Max was released but my 15 PM suffers from the same problem
Where you running iOS 17 when first noticed the issue? I am quite puzzled how come that nobody reported the issue since last year when 15 came out.

Yes, the later versions of iOS17.. Truthfully, I haven't done astro or low light photography with this phone but I was looking to get a nice tripod and giving it a shot. I would of never known until it was brought to my attention on YouTube and Tech forums.

I took the opportunity to report the bug to Apple, there's a slim chance they will look into it and fix it in the next iOS releases. Otherwise, we can always rely on third party camera apps for night shots (e.g ProCam).

I recently saw a video by Shayne Mostyn who first posted about this issue & apparently iOS 18.2 fixes this issue. His video was posted 5 days ago. He compares the 16 pro to the 15 pro and there are no more blue lines or smudges.

My two iPhones (16 pro max) never had the blue lines and smudges to begin with,

Unlike him, I never had this issue until I installed 18.2. So there was nothing to fix in my case, but surely there was something broken software-wise.

Sadly even Shayne or his channel exists to make you click and watch. Take a stroll down his comments section and he himself eventually admits that it’s not actually solved.

Interesting… I didn’t read the comments. However the blue does look like it has been reduced. I also read that the 16 pro (non max) have the problem. The max iPhones don’t seem to have this issue. My two phones don’t. I don’t think my wife’s 16 does either, it hasn’t been tested yet. She doesn’t take any night photos anyway.

“Make you click and watch”? You don’t like watching? He has a great YouTube channel. I suppose you and anyone else who doesn’t or may not take photos of the night sky with an iPhone will not prefer watching.. oh well.

When you read the comments on the videos where he's discussing the blue issue, it seems to be effecting 14 Pro/Pro Max, 15Pro/ProMax and 16 Pro/ProMax randomly. The 14's and 15's effected are much lower than the 16's but the only way to know for sure is everyone needs test their specific camera and find out. I don't think many use the camera at super long exposures and high ISO's so the problem could easily go unnoticed. My 15PM camera is fine when taking everyday pics but at 30 seconds and high ISO it's a blue mess

It seems you are behind on this issue. Pro maxes have been affected. I personally tested one at the store while waiting for my warranty claim.

I don’t want to slight the guy. After all without his show and tell we will be suffering in silence. But he made the video of 18.2 with a release candidate, and then proceeds to claim it was “resolved” on air when it’s not really, led many people to heave a giant sigh of relief, but then after having found out eventually and with the actual 18.2 release that those claims are inaccurate and not so true, he is then not revising those claims. I summarise that perhaps he needs people to watch one way or another.

Besides many in this thread also watch and are rather disappointed with the 18.2 release on the contrary to his videos.
