I am thinking about buying an iphone7 plus at Apple Crossgates in Albany, NY . It would be great if anyone knows whether I can do this at there.

i did it this afternoon in the apple store closest to me--i bought a 7, not a 7+. no problem. to be clear, they need to have the phone you want in stock and you'll need to pay for it in full, not use IUP (because to use IUP you need to activate the phone before leaving the store, and since you don't have a verizon account you can't activate it on a verizon network) but it's no problem at all to pay for the phone and take it home.

I'm on AT&T. If I go this route, can I simply pop in my current SIM with no extra steps needed?

If I buy an iphone by paying full retail price, will it work with the networks around the world?

As long as you are buying full retail, yes. However, you cannot get a Verizon iPhone through the Apple iPhone Upgrade Program unless you are a Verizon customer.

You also can't reserve a Verizon iPhone online and pickup in store unless you are a Verizon customer.
