Remember when we had the MacBook, the MacBook Air, and the MacBook Pro? Well that is what the Air is supposed to be.I don’t really understand why it exists? Kind of a middle ground between 17 and 17 Pro? Instead of the 17 plus I guess? I just don’t get it.
In 2008? Seriously? Mine is from 2020 and I expect it to last me for at least another 5 years+. No complaints here.
Cinematic video mode is not a pro feature. It’s been on regular iPhones for yearsWhy are you complaining about pro camera features when it wasn't introduced as having such?
mmWave is not really a big deal. You have to be right on top of it to get fast speeds. And after a point, fast speed is academic at best. Speed junkies who run speed tests like knowing their phone can reach x speed with mmWave. In real world average user use, it's not a big deal not having it. People (read: a lot of kids) want to be able to stream their social media, YT, and movies. That can easily be done with less than 40 mbps.
We are talking about the very first MacBook Air and why it sucked. And yes, it did suck. It sucked back in 2008 and it sucks now (the 2008 one). I remember people were laughing at it and not because of the thinnes. In 2008? Mine is from 2020 and I expect it to last me for at least another 5 years. No complaints here.
That is true. His overall posts was dealing with primarily pro features which is what I was addressing.Cinematic video mode is not a pro feature. It’s been on regular iPhones for years
And you only need around 25Mbps for that!Cinematic video mode is not a pro feature. It’s been on regular iPhones for years
I never had the old one, so I wouldn’t know. Don’t understand why you’re living in the past. The MacBook Air M1 is one of the best Macs I’ve ever owned. Even a friend who always goes for the much more expensive Pros chose the same one. Great battery life and great performance. It was pretty much a MacBook 4,1 with an iPods harddrive.
Because iPhone Air is the first Apple's thin phone and the OP didn't understand what's the point of iPhone Air and someone said that people hated the first MacBook Air too and I replied that they didn't hate it because of it's thinnes. The first MacBook Air really sucked. We're talking about the first MacBook Air because it was mentioned here. It's not living in the past.I never had the old one, so I wouldn’t know. Why I Still Love My MacBook Air M1 in 2025 – 4 Years Later — Dapper and groomed
Still worth it in 2025? I’ve used the MacBook Air M1 daily since launch. Here’s why I still love it for blogging, video editing, and everything in between.www.dapperandgroomed.com
Okay, okay, settle down. As far as I understand this thread is about the new iPhone Air, not about the first MacBook Air that was launched 17 years ago, so I don’t think your comparison is fair at all. That said, I don’t care for the new iPhone Air at all, as previously mentioned, because of the mono speakers, lack of a physical sim card slot and supposedly subpar battery life. I’d rather wish for a new Plus-model.Because iPhone Air is the first Apple's thin phone and the OP didn't understand what's the point of iPhone Air and someone said that people hated the first MacBook Air too and I replied that they didn't hate it because of it's thinnes. Same here. Battery life in hours of video time doesn't say much if you never watch videos on it.It feels like the screen size was an issue.
I don't understand how so many people can watch long videos on their phones.
I'm so sorry you bought the iPhone 16, it was clearly a transitional model to avoid. The 17 is a much better option.I was expecting a really light-weight device, not just 5g less than my iPhone 16.
I was expecting a really thin device, not just 2mm less than my iPhone 16.
Waiting for the fold next year which will hopefully be released with finalized Siri and AI.
To replace the SE maybe, but give it a mid tier price?I don’t really understand why it exists? Kind of a middle ground between 17 and 17 Pro? Instead of the 17 plus I guess? I just don’t get it.

I don't understand it personally as the hardware seems weak, its a thin iPhone nobody asked for, and even Apple recommend using a MagSafe battery accessory to give it decent battery life. A weird one but people seem interested in it.
No, you must send it to me instead 😄I’m leaning towards the air now. If I don’t like it, I can always return it.
Same for me. I have AirPods Max and Pro for listening.Personally I don't watch much video content or listen to much audio content on my phone's speaker. And I never have the ringer on. So my speaker is really only used for... alarms?
I think you are right. I also did a spec comparison between the 17 and Air and the only advantage I can see for the Air is the A19 Pro chip, versus the A19 on the 17. Personally, that wouldn't make a difference to me and I would see the better camera on the 17 being of more benefit, and of course to consumers, the £200 price difference is a huge deciding factor.Apple's goal was likely to increase ASP and margins. But they needed a fresh face to do it.
What happened today was the Air replaced the 16 Pro at $999. The materials and engineering costs for the Air can't possibly be anywhere close to the Pro.
Another sleight of hand was the price increase for the 17 Pro. Apple's narrative is $1,099 isn't really a price increase because it's the same as iPhone 16 Pro 256GB. But then why did iPhone 17 go to 256GB for $0 increase?
Can't wait for the 17 Air to replace my heavy 16 Pro.

It is also worth pointing out that there is no longer a Plus size for iPhone 17 and the Air has effectively replaced this, albeit a smaller and less spec'd version.
