You probably won’t be able to play graphic-heavy mobile games, take really long videos, or Facetime on cellular data without draining your battery life significantly with the new iPhone Air.

Any sane person would pay the $99 difference to get the iPhone 17 Pro along with its superior battery life and Pro cameras.

I think it's the result of work toward the foldable iPhone, and they decided to release it to see if it sticks.
Yeah but a foldable vs a thinner but marginally larger screen'd phone are very very different value propositions.

A foldable, I get. The Air is mostly "why bother" to me wishing it was instead a mini because its just not significantly differentiated IMO.

When I look at the Air, I see it as the ultimate social media phone. Light in the hand, big screen, great front camera, and a good enough back camera.

It's not for photographers or film-makers. They have the Pro and Pro Max.
I have been a full time professional photographer for nearly 40 years. While I have enjoyed the “pro” phones, I am really over the size and weight.

I don’t really take the three cameras on the pro model phones all that seriously because they don’t hold a candle to what my Nikon, Leica and Hasselblad cameras do. And I always have a real camera in tow.

Seriously considering trying out the air this time, just wish it were smaller.

Man, I’m all in on this air! I don’t need all these fancy camera features that I don’t use. My camera is just a utility. If you want a camera for pro stuff get the pro stuff otherwise this air ticks all the boxes for daily use and fun.
I like the Pro because I don’t carry my Canon DLSR everywhere. It’s big, takes up room when traveling, and can be easily stolen. The last few years I barely take it with me now.

I feel like most of the comments are the same when Apple 1st released the MacBook Air.

I feel like people are downplaying the size difference but it is a massive decrease in size.

I printed out a model and put it next to my 16 pro and it is comical how tiny it is. For me personally the single camera doesn’t hurt me because I typically take my Ricoh with me wherever I go and if I don’t then this camera is still plenty good enough for anything I would need it for.

  • No stereo speakers
  • No cinematic mode
  • No time lapse
  • No wide-angle shots
  • No macro photography
  • No adaptive True Tone flash
  • No 4K slow-mo
  • No mmWave
No thanks.
Why are you complaining about pro camera features when it wasn't introduced as having such?

mmWave is not really a big deal. You have to be right on top of it to get fast speeds. And after a point, fast speed is academic at best. Speed junkies who run speed tests like knowing their phone can reach x speed with mmWave. In real world average user use, it's not a big deal not having it. People (read: a lot of kids) want to be able to stream their social media, YT, and movies. That can easily be done with less than 40 mbps.

No. LOL just kidding. It's just another attempt for Apple to sell more phones. That's it. Apple isn't a non-profit organization trying to discover a new element or cure a disease. Apple just wants more money.

The single speaker is a huge deal for those of us that use it for audio e.g. stereo / spatial music (even testing), podcasts, and even speakerphone calls.

I really wish they found a way to add it but I imagine they are holding that back for an Air 2 or 3 which is a damn shame.

We've had these dual speakers since the iPhone 7, 10 damn years ago. Even the freaking 12 and 13 mini had them.

No ProRes is also real stupid, as is USB2 speeds. I take a fair amount of RAW photos, they process much better with nature photography especially where the computation doesn't work as well.

Beautiful looking device otherwise.

It’s thin, other than that it is taller and wider which is super frustrating to me because I live a super active outdoor lifestyle and having a mini iPad mini in my pocket or pack is just ridiculous.

I’m so tempted to give it a try and get rid of my doorstop 14 Pro but I know how this larger phone thing goes…it literally fits in nothing safely when in the backcountry.

I totally get it, I was hoping for a Pro mini or at least for the standard 6.3 air but I think overall I can live with the slight increase in size. If it had been the same size as a Max phone I probably wouldn't be considering it, the 3d printed model definitely helped me decide if I could live with the slight size increase.

Now I cant wait for people to complain how heavy “iPhone Air” is and demand next iPhone Air to be feather light so they can barely feel the weight of their iPhone.
Meanwhile I just use the iPhone Pro Max to get the best tech Apple has to offer.

No. I am tired of how much my 14 pro max causes my pants and shirts to sag. Its like a brick and its thick. I dont give a damn about the camera and the battery is fine. I am never more than 5 feet away from a charger, 24/7

Oh no, you’re not sane according to indefinite! Join the club, there will be millions of us.

I don’t really understand why it exists? Kind of a middle ground between 17 and 17 Pro? Instead of the 17 plus I guess? I just don’t get it.
It's for people who really want a thin and light iPhone and who will also accept the obvious trade-offs. (Primarily single camera and speaker.)

Same battery life as my iPhone 16 pro?

Video playback does not equal to real battery performance, music playback hours is a better indicator (and guess what apple removed them for comparison). Last time I remembered, the Pro Max could reach 95 hours yet the regular and the pro could only do 75 hours in one generation, a very compelling index.

Ah I have found it.
iPhone 14 Pro, audio playback up to 75 hours.
iPhone 14 Pro Max, audio playback up to 95 hours.

Even in last gen, you could find the following indicators.
16 - 80 hours
16 Plus - 100 hours
16 Pro - 85 hours
16 Pro Max - 105 hours.

(they removed the 16 pro specs page).

What is there to explain lol

You can watch the keynote for details or wait until the updated website goes live
agreed. And for me, I don't understand the Pro phones. My wife gets it to take photos of our animals. I see teens and college students running around with them. They clearly do nothing that is pro-sumer. To me the only compelling phones were the regular 17 and the Air. My last three phones have been the 12 mini, the 14 plus, and the 15. I loved the form factor of the 12 mini, I loved that I never had to charge the 14 plus except when I obviously was driving, and the 15 I loved for adding USB-C. Nothing in the 16 line was exciting.
