Downloaded the latest version of Safari (on XP) but no luck, i'm just going to watch it via twit.tv.

I could log in to my Mac at home, but video performance via remote access is a slideshow.

I just read on the TWiT IRC channel that they can not legally rebroadcast it. So, it'll just be commentary.

Where is the link in order to view the event? Furthermore, how long do these keynotes usually go for?

Thanks.

That's an Internet Draft. I don't think you should rely on that as a "published" document. Apple of course actually develop the spec so no risk for them to implement it. I suspect many other adopters may wait until it becomes an Internet Standard.

Not typically how that stuff works.

Anyone who waits for it to become finalized is going to be about 5 years too late.

Someone here tried safari also (XP), no luck. Kinda hoping it was going to work in safari, oh well, I'll enjoy it in the blogs.

Will streaming on hour of video on 3G cause me to go over my 2GB data limit? (Thanks, AT&T for the bait 'n switch!)

There will be a link on apple.com, for sure. They usually go 60-90 minutes, in my estimation and from my memory.

As usual, the fine art of sarcasm is lost on today's population... that's something worthy of a "Sigh...." if there ever was one.

Yes, with no indications in your pure text post, I was supposed to easily tell you were being sarcastic. I mean, its not like your sig or anything would make me think of any particular bias.

Care to point out where the sarcasm was in this?

"Mac X-Servers crashing? That's a joke, right? Macs don't crash... or so the marketing spin would have you believe. Right?"

Could Apple wrap the HTTP steam in DRM to lock out VLC and require Quicktime X?

Not if they want people to be able to watch it simply. It's not like they have any incentive to either, the VLC solution is clunky and only going to be satisfying enough for the most dedicated viewers. Most of those who can't watch the live stream due to technical reasons will watch the text feeds or just watch the event later.

I will try to watch the event from here at home, but I'm supposed to be at work by 2PM EST, so hopefully I won't have to leave before the good part.

Rebroadcast it?!!? Hell I'm not sure Leo and Company can even get within 1000 feet of the events property line.

You see, Leo's on Apple/Steve's schit list (big time).

Seems to have SOMETHING to do with Leo having the balls to turn his laptop around so it faced the stage (and Steve) and then activate his cam and re-stream some of the keynote. Oh and Leo was supper supper close to the stage... Like 10th row or something. Anyway, ever since then Leo hasn't gotten one single invite to anything. Later Leo even got his hands on some Apple produced video of the event where you see Leo doing the dirty deed in all its HD glory! :D

Guess this throws a bunch of cold water on the fools who think the TWiT Network is bought and paid-for by Steve himself.

So this means I have to reopen VLC when the video stops?

Is there a way I don't have to? Is there a website which will host it? I don't really get it. I see only talk in this topic. Is there a definitive website?

ok so i have no mac but i have a pc with vlc. it played the bip-bop thing, so now how do i get the link for vlc to get the video?

It is about time they started doing this again, welcome to the 21st century.

Money for nothing and Bandwidth for free!

You realize, of course, that an Apple event stream is going to get hit WAY more than, say, a Droid, or Microsoft, or (today) Sony event, right?

Its one thing to serve up a stream to a handful of people.
Quite another to support the massive demand generated by an Apple event.

Why do you think they've had to build out a custom data center in NC?

Its like a day doesn't go by that I have to sit back and appreciate my Apple computer. If only I could have seen the benefits sooner...

VLC 1.1.4(latest) doesn't work on windows!!!

The example url is not a stream.. this one is actually live.twit.tv (visit with iphone 3.0 user agent) and it didn't work anywhere...

http://iphone-streaming.ustream.tv/ustreamVideo/1463655/streams/live/playlist.m3u8

Windows XP/Vista/7 > playlist.m3u8 > Result:
  • VLC 1.1.4 - freezed image, randomly plays few seconds of audio
  • Quicktime - Error 47. "invalid URL"
  • itunes - destroyed my eardrum ( don't try with headphones!)
  • safari - *.m3u8 download dialog
  • firefox 3.6.8( latest stable) - *.m3u8 download dialog
  • smplayer 0.6.8 - crash
  • Windows Media Player - crash

solutions? i really don't like to watch this on my iphone :/
