Typical Apple...our way or the highway.

You go ahead and broadcast it Apple so that only 10,000 people can watch while the millions of others who are interested (like me) will get the feed from MR or just wait for a STANDARD HTML website to post what's new 30 minutes after Apple's announcements are over.

It's new streaming technology. Apple is testing it.

You can watch the video afterward. Maybe Apple can make you feel special and loved in some other way?

I feel like every single person on this website has either a Mac running Snow Leopard or an iPhone/iPod/iPad. Otherwise, why are you here?

Anyway, I also may not be home for the stream. In fact this is one of my busiest days in a while! Why couldn't the event be tomorrow when I have to wait around all day for my new fridge to be delivered!?

In which country are u? .

Believe it or not, Canada. The internet is just painfully slow at this motel. Maybe I'll go to Starbucks/Second Cup for an hour to watch it then head back. My home internet gets 1mbps and I'm really missing it right now.

We might have it, but it's at home and we are at work.

Awesome..

kinda sucks, i'll miss the nostaligia of having like 3-4 tabs open all blogging the even, waiting for someone to post news next.

It's not a keynote...

I don't understand why people keep calling this a keynote. It's a media event. A keynote is usually the main presentation at a large convention, such as WWDC or MacWorld. Big difference.

I'm not looking to feel special...that's for the select few that can watch this new, PROPRIETARY streaming system.

Just broadcast it in one of the ALREADY STANDARD technologies. Sheeeeez, Apple.

Again, I'll just get the updates another way. The Apple broadcast will likely be filled with iAds anyway.

when does it start in GMT+1 time?

Umm... well i live in the UK, and we start at 6pm, i think we are GMT+1 atm, not sure? lol, but it's 8 hours different to the live location. All you need to do to find out the time where you are, is make sure you put MacRumors in the TimeZone you are in, it and automatically updated itself for me, so on the hompage (atm) it's 3 hours and 33mins away! CANT WAIT! :D

Apple (and pretty much everyone else) uses the term "keynote" to cover all of the events that they cover where somebody talks on stage.

And since Apple will be using the Keynote software (like it always does) calling it a keynote stream is somewhat accurate.

and FYI keynote means a central theme of a larger idea. It doesn't refer necessarily to a specific event type.

As wiki puts it:
A keynote in literature, music or public speaking is the principal underlying theme of a larger idea.

It can be used as part of a convention, but it can be used in any gathering context.

Does anyone know if there's a way to save a stream to a local file (as it plays) through quicktime? This is very easy to do in VLC but of course quicktime doesn't have the option. Is there another program out there that integrates with QT to let you do this?

Could you do a screen recording of the Quicktime window?

lol at koen for being a dumbass

What is it about the original page that crashed my Safari?

And if I wanted to watch this event live, I would go to the event. Later on the video is soon enough.

And who wrote that definition of keynote for wiktionary?

As wiki puts it:

that's like saying if you wanted to watch a football game you'd go to it. After the event is over the only thing that matters is the score.

As far as I know, screen recording only works for the whole screen... has that changed?

Wow... you are demonstrating what an ignorant douchebag you are. Proprietary? It's HTTP Streaming! It's using a standard protocol. All this basically is - is a conglomeration of different - ALREADY EXISTING - technologies. Apple published a paper as to how to make it happen so software developers can write their own software for this open standard - something that Adobe has yet to do.

Get over it. It has nothing to do with "Their Way." It's an Open Source technology that they just happen to be using. It's not their fault it hasn't been implemented by everyone yet. The event is about this cool thing called "technology." So they will be using this technology-thingy to promote and broadcast their announcement. Pretty ingenious, huh? Actually using a technology standard to TALK about technology. Wow, who would have thought?

Or maybe you would suggest that we all view it in our Mosaic browsers using push button phones connected to our dial-up modems? That way, we can all view this new fangled technology with our old standards so even grandma can see it.

Or, you can view it several hours delayed like all the other Apple media events and keynotes in the past several years.

BTW, the highway is under construction right now, so you might encounter delays. Good luck with that!

I think the very fact apple is streaming this is a BIG part of today's announcement... the STREAMING of content to the iOS devices including the NEW iTV (apple TV)
