Never pre-ordered before. I thought in previous years you could track the shipment down to the plane but the US thread is saying it won't be like that this year due to the tariff situation? Does that apply to us too?

Also it's Tuesday morning EST and my order is still "preparing to ship"

Likely what’s happening this year is local warehouses are being stocked ahead of time and the phones will ship locally from the Canadian warehouse in Concord, ON. Also it’s normal for the status to stay in Preparing to Ship until the day before launch. Apple knows what it’s doing!

It will likely be "preparing to ship" until Wednesday or even Thursday, at which point there will be rapid movement.
In any case, don't worry. In my experience I've never had Apple miss a delivery date. If they say that your phone is being delivered on Friday, it will be delivered on Friday, regardless of its apparent progress in the preceding days.

For iPads, once my order was a day late, but that was because of some issue with the shipper. OTOH, once my order was actually a day early, meaning for that day I was one of the only people in the entire country with an iPad Air 2 aside from reviewers. :)

I know, right!? Wouldn't it be nice to be the first delivery of the day? lol.
Anyway, in this case I won't be home from work until after 5:00 anyway, so hopefully it's delivered by then so it's waiting for me.

Wow, that's really cool! I've never heard of a product being delivered early before. I thought that the shippers had explicit instructions not not to deliver before the release date. I guess someone slipped up and you got lucky.

Yup. It happens extremely rarely, and probably even less frequently now than it did back in 2014 with that iPad Air 2.

The one time I ordered from Apple I got my MBP at around noon. This was in Oakville (not that close to Concord) though many months after release
 
Does anyone recall the time of day apple refreshes in-store pick up availability? It’s been a long time since I’ve chased a launch day device. Last time I remember it was something like 6am inventory would appear at stores for same day pick up.

Last few years it was around 07:45am local time starting on launch day. Just need to keep refreshing until stock shows up.

Should west coast people get tracking today or not till Thursday? Do they all ship from Ontario or is there a warehouse they may have stocked in Vancouver?

In past years they’ve shipped from Concord, Ontario as RD said previously. I’m on the west coast and it shipped Thursday night to Victoria overnight.

Thanks. I'm in Victoria also so won't expect any shipping notice till tomorrow then. My last two phones were ordered through Telus so I haven't ordered one straight from Apple for a long time.

Oh ok I guess it depends on which model. Mine was in at 8:03. I got silver though.

I didn't even get in until 8:06. My 8:09 ET order is a Cosmic Orange 17 Pro Max 256 GB. I've been checking every day for pick up options too, but I haven't found it available for pickup Sept. 19 anywhere in Toronto.

Oh ok. I was in right away. I had my pre order cart already set.
 
I felt like I was a bit late getting into the store but thanks to saving my selections ahead of time I was able to get both the 17 Pro 512GB in Deep Blue at 8:04 ET and a 17 256GB in Lavender at 8:05 ET, both for the 19th delivery.

I have to admit though...I'm missing the excitement of tracking the phones as they ship from China. It's a lot less fun when they're just shipping locally.

Yeah, this is my first new phone since the 14PM. I miss the tracking, but I'm glad that I'm getting it on launch day this time. For the 14 I finalized the order 10 minutes after the site opened and it was already back ordered 2 weeks.
