Pull down from the battery indicator to open Control Center. You'll see the percentage then. It's an extra step, but we will get used to it.
Plus it protects you from accidentally opening the phone. I could see this happening a lot if you didn’t need to swipe up.
The reason is the same reason why swiping to unlock existed in the first place. Do you really want to go right to your home screen every time you happen to look at the face of your phone? Maybe you do, but many others don't. Sometimes people wake their phone just to see the information on their lock screen.
The first scan was in Calgary. Seems like it's shipping from there. I ordered from Telus btw.
Crazy that if we would have waited, a lot of us that got reservations would have flipped to PFS this weekend....ah, well, who knew??
Regarding the swipe to unlock thing - I think they should make that a user-configurable tweak. I too would like to remove the need for the extra gesture. Raise to wake and boom, onto the home screen. That would be awesome!!!
But, I also have an Apple Watch - so I've already seen most of my notifications - only ones I don't get on the watch are e-mail (just too many!!)
I gotta tell you - I've avoided the iPhone for ordering at launch for awhile now....gotta say that I likely will again. Hasn't been an enjoyable experience at all. Only did this time as the rumoured "not available until 2018" unless you did.
Those saying "Well, you were crazy to line up". Apple - both Tim and Angela said that there would be ample stock for walk-ins - well there was - south of the border. It was an exercise in futility up here.
They REALLY need to do something about the scalpers. We've seen from the quantities on eBay that there's obviously people that used bots for pre-launch. There are a LOT of really organized groups that have turned things like this into a business. Apple needs to put measures in place to stifle this activity.
Edit: I think if I ever do participate in a lineup situation again, I'll take my paintball gun...still may get charged, but I don't think it would be a criminal assault charge. Just in case we get organized line jumpers again!!!

i was a 3:06 order as well, probably would have been bumped this weekend as well. Wouldn’t change anything though, it was so easy to reserve and pickup and getting the phone on Saturday was key, i was getting too impatient.
Well finally my phone is in Quebec, so I will probably get it today after all
Yeah exactly. I did get a launch day delivery but in general was never really worried as reservation system allows a daily check which is quite nice.
It's because they want to allocate a "Genius" to you for your setup (whether you want/need one or not).
Still can't get over that when I showed up 30 minutes early (when they opened) for my appointment, they refused to see me - even though there were about a dozen of their staff doing nothing other than socializing amongst themselves. Just bad policies. Had to go kill time in the mall for 20 minutes. Heh....then they almost refused to sell it to me - as their system recorded it as a "reserve under contract".
Told them I had driven from Kitchener and had already cancelled my pre-order after I got the reservation....so, just how big of a scene did they want to see?
64 was my default choice too, however the 256 availability popped up so I decided to go for it.. I'll be eating ramen noodles for the next 2 weeks to pay for the extra cost though! I guess that now I can shoot some 4k video without worrying about memory. Like I said though, 64 would have done me fine too.
Yea I wanted the 256 so that it was future proof, but since I know ill be selling mine in September it doesn’t really matter. After transferring all my stuff I still have 40gb of space. Im not a big video guy and dont store things to watch on my phone. Plus I use the cloud for photos. At least for you if you plan on keeping the phone for years the 256 is by far the better choice. Im really just waiting for a Gold X+ next year.. that phone I’ll max out the storage and add AC+, probably will cost over 2500 haha

Even though I have a case and glass screen protector, im still a bit concerned about the glass breaking if I drop it. The tension points are on the corners. I had an Apple rep tell me that he’s seen phones dropped with a case and glass screen protector and it still broke the display underneath! Not interested in spending the 350+tax to replace the front glass or even more scary, 709+tax to replace back glass/water damage etc. I think it will also help when i go to resell it.
Even though I’m very confident I won’t break or drop the phone, the worrying is getting annoying. Paying 281 for piece of mind is steep, but when you’re talking about a 1500$ device, it makes a bit of sense.

I've had AC+ on both of my Apple Watches and my last iPhone - the 6s. Didn't actually get a chance to use the reduced-cost replacement option for any of them yet, but did take advantage of the additional year of manufacturer's warranty that comes with it!!!

I just can’t bring myself to use it naked. Im too OCD about scuffs and scratches. If you look online, the X can break at even a 3foot drop from pocket height. I think i’ll just get it. Heh...I'm going to have a hard enough doing this myself. I'm hoping after a couple of months I won't be so nervous. Certainly not going to watch the videos....would make it all the harder. Same OCD issues about scuffs and scratches, but I've always been really careful with my devices...I think I could get away with this (provided I don't drop it on anything other than carpet of course)
Edit: Also have a friend that's been running his 8+ naked since launch and he's just as obsessive about it....and has thoroughly enjoyed just how damn gorgeous these devices are without a case. So, that's encouraging!!
It's like "Hey we know you are mad because you have to wait to get your phone, but in the meantime look at us destroying these phones!"
