Try disabling Safari under "iCloud" in settings. It was completely unusable on my iPad 3 until I did this.

Thanks Tyrion, this however does mean that I lose the functionality, so proudly displayed on a previous WWDC, whereby my browser history replicates to my other Apple devices!?

UPDATE - This does fix the problem which now poses the question, what the heck did they do to the iCloud code providing this connectivity!?
As mentioned, I now do lose the iCloud 'sharing' of history and open tabs - poor show if you ask me!

Before the update my IPAD 4 was the best! Updated to ios7 and having all kind of problems, its sad now when i have the ipad i am starting to say i'm starting to dislike it everyday. Wish there was a way to go back before the update.:(:(:

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Guess we're just gonna have to wait for an update. It really sucks because iCloud tabs were one of my most used features.

I like iOS but I have to agree with others it is noticeably slower on my iPad 4 than iOS 6. One example is rotating the screen, was nice and smooth on iOS 6 but stutters on iOS 7.

However I haven't noticed any performance problems with the iPhone 5.

And that works for Apple, watch it run perfectly smooth on the new iPad 5 as they slowly phase out the 4 that is what just months old ? im getting a new iPad still their updates seem too frequent nowadays

It can get a bit sluggish and choppy at times on my iPad 3. The rotation animation is eugh occasionally.

Any other iPad 3 users with a good experience? How is the battery life I have read its worse?

Working great on my ipad3. Simply downloaded IOS7 wirelessly and installed it. Safari is working great as well. Full-screen reader function in landscape mode is awesome, as is the redesigned photos app.

Multi-tasking seems a bit buggy though. Trying to switch between apps has caused my ipad to spontaneously reboot thrice already. The saving grace here is that IOS7 boots up so quickly.

Battery life seems about the same. Never really paid attention to it. If it is worse, I haven't felt it.

Guess I was lucky. :)

Really bad on my iPad 4, ios 6 was incredibly fast (safari pages loaded almost instantly), now it feels like using an original ipad again :(

It's so bad I'm actually selling mine, I like ios 7 on the iphone, but the whole design just feels wrong on the ipad. Wish I could have kept ios 6!

For what it's worth, and I know it's pretty circumstantial, but I think that the 7.0.2 feels a little smoother. No way to prove this, but it feels slightly better right now. On an iPad 3

Good to know thanks

Well, I tend to agree. Having just downloaded and installed the 7.02 update, I find that is it indeed a much smoother (though PDF Expert still crashes occasionally). But that aside, I also notice one other odd thing. When I downloaded the update my battery meter showed that the battery had a charge of 97%. After downloading and installation, the battery meter showed that the battery has a charge of 99%. Maybe the update did something to the battery sensors too (good things, I hope!). I will know by tomorrow whether there has been an improvement in the battery life as I am not going to plug in the iPad till it drops to around 30% and I have a fair idea - based on my usage pattern - as to how long that will take.

For the record, I am referring to the iPad4.

Update

Can anybody give review of what happened to battery life, wallpaper and other problems of slugishness for ipad 3 after the recent update? I cant decide to update or not. I am pretty happy with the current speed and consistency of my device and i dont want to loose it. However curiosity and hope is eating me up

I agree .The problem is it's hard to grasp.

I just installed iOS 7 on a new iPod touch 5th gen. It is REALLY nice, perfect, much better than ios 6

However, it's not nearly as nice on my iPad 4, that I use all day. Why I don't understand this is that Cook said he uses the iPad all the time, so you would think....

Maybe it's just a rush job for the iPhone launch, and they will tweak it up to snuff? Let's hope so :D

It's lagging bad for me on my Mini, Safari is almost unusable it's so laggy. I'm quite upset about it. I use my Mini ALL the time.

Something working...we've updated both of our minis and they're acting great! Perhaps even a bit quicker.

Lol

Everyone experiences the stuttering when doing the 4 finger app close, even on the iPad 4

Not me sir. It's definitely as quick and 'fluid' as it's ever been. We've got 4 deployed iPad 4s. All 64GB. All LTE. None exhibiting any stuttering or lag with any of the gestures including 4&5 finger expose/home manipulation

Rotate the orientation of your device on the home screen and tell us again how its buttery smooth. Also if you have folders notice how they flicker...... If you somehow magically found a method around this let us know.

Again...we've got 8 iPads (we run a business with them). 4x4, an original. An iPad 2 and a pair of minis. I've not seen flickering or anything but extremely fluent orientation rotation. It's definitely 'buttery smooth'. Hate that line but it's descriptive of the performance of all of our updated iOS 7 devices. Including the iPhones 5 & 5s

I just found that the stuttering from any Application to the Home Screen, only happens if i use the 4 finger gesture. Because if i just hit the Home Button, it goes "buttery smooth".....

So, the Hardware clearly Handles it well. They just have to fix the 4 finger Gesture !

Something must be different on our set ups. Are you using the dynamic wall paper? How many apps are open? Do you have folders or individual apps on your home screen? Honestly trying to figure out what could be different. Again, ALL of our devices are as or more fluent than 6.xx.

Apps download 10 times slower. On iPad 4. iPhone 5, is 5 times slower with new system. Also the Smart Cover does't work now! Hope there is a fix soon!

Smart Cover works great here! Never seen any issues with all download speed.

The Calendar App on the iPad is wayyyyyyy to hard to see!
small Light grey text on white background = FAIL!

I like it! Sounds like there was probably folks even in house that went back n forth on this one. My best buddy can't stand it. Different strokes. Fantastical is an incredible 'stand in'

I'm in the same boat. Terribly disappointed with this. Now, my iPad feels cheap and clunky. I've had a few apps lock up on me, and scrolling through news stories, etc. is laggy, and sluggish. "Fluid" no longer describes ANYTHING I'm doing.

For the first time, I can say I'm genuinely unhappy with Apple. Too bad I can't rollback to iOS6 while they sort this out.

I'm thinking the three or four of you having such significant challenges should reset. Reboot. Start from scratch and 'set up as new device'. There is a significant difference between those having no problems, stutter or 'glitches' than those of you having them. Weighted significantly to the former and WITH older hardware

When will Apple release an iOS that enables iPads to do proper work for professionals, i.e. manage files, have full access to e.g MS Word, MS Excel etc.?
I don't want ever to change to DELL and MS Windows 8. But for the time being, the iPad is not more than a funny toy or an expensive reader for me. I still have to carry my MBP around.

Perhaps you got lost? Wrong thread maybe?

iPads report on 7.0.2

I am now running 7.0.2 on all devices, but use my mini the most. 2 iPad 2's (Daughter's and Son's), 1 iPad 3 (Wife's), and one iPad mini (mine) as well as an iPhone 5 (mine) and a 4S (Wife's). Generally the update has been disappointing on the iPads, while being everything I'd hoped for on my iPhone 5 and the 4S.

List of things that are not optimal on iPads:

  • Autorotation causes App folders to grey out momentarily while the orientation adjusts. Looks very "B"
  • Unlocking via a swipe over a notification does not always register and you are loaded into the regular home screen instead of directly into the app the notification came from.
  • Notification Center, App folders, and stock apps like music are exactly the same as the iPhone but blown up. Really bad considering this was a key point of differentiation for them vs. Android in previous versions.
  • Pinch to close and all transition animations lag or stutter momentarily on a regular basis. Not all the time, but about 80% of the time. Parallax effect included. Really irritating and gives the perception of a laggy and slow experience, even if in fact things happen just as quickly.

This is extremely disappointing. I would much rather have waited for iOS 7 on the iPad for when the new generation launches, so they could get it right like they have for the phone version. It would have been a natural delay that everyone would have accepted. Very out of Apple's character to release this in the state it is in for iPad.

Hmmm...what is your setup? Are you running restricted profiles with a limited number of company specific apps and no app folders? If so, that doesn't appear to be a normal use case.

In any case, it seems you are the only person here not experiencing any performance issues at all, perceived or otherwise, with your iPads.

I have a broad mix of about 130 apps on my mini (productivity, connectivity, games, entertainment, video, literature & audio creation and consumption, utilities, etc.) organised into 20 app folders on one home screen. I do not use a dynamic wallpaper, and have a stock Apple-provided still as my background. The other iPads have similar setups, but more loaded with educational and game apps on the kids' machines, and photo editing and social apps on the wife's.

I just find it extraordinary that you are not experiencing any kind of difference in at least perceived performance or lack of polish between your iPhone 5S and your mini, for example.
