I'm on hold with them right now. supposedly a 15 minute wait.

I called apple and talked to some lady who tried to sell me apple care then she said try to download it later in like an hour. I told her I had been trying for 4 hours and she said "well, the servers are very busy." Fantastic help from apple.

Did you expect them to rush mail you a copy or something?

Mac users should get a priority download this is ******** that I buy a MacBook Pro and an iPod touch and I can't download a firmware update because everyone else is trying to get it. WTF.

No but I expected them to give me a time frame when they would have fixed the problem or maybe even waive the 9.95 fee. Apple is usually incredible when it comes to customer support. Just a couple weeks ago I got a new time capsule because my old one had a problem. it worked fine at the store but the guy was like I'm sure youd rather just have a new one.

all of you are crazy.

Just chill and wait. The servers are going mad. It's still early. Go out and have a drink for God sakes.

I just don't think it's a matter of overloaded servers. If that were the case, why does the darn thing keep jumping back and forth between saying there is a new update (2.0) and saying that 1.1.4 is the most current update. If it were simply overloaded servers, I can't imagine it would do that, but rather keep saying that one should try later to get 2.0.

Moreover, wouldn't you think that there would be an error message to the effect of servers being overloaded.

Also, we can't even get to the page that tells us more about 2.0. If it were overloaded servers we could see that, but not go to the step beyond that which would involve actually downloading it.

Face it: Apple has screwed up on their end. It's not simply too many people trying to get it.

Did iPhone users experience this when the 2.0 update was released for them? I have to imagine that there are far more iPhone users than Touch users.

News

I just was watching the news and they said that their was a glitch in the new software and they are going to take it off the severs so they can renew it.

It hasn't even been "available" yet. There wasn't even a legit date/time for the software update. You have alllll dayyyy (11th) to get your download. They have not "screwed up" until the 12th of July dawns upon us and the download is till unavailable. There is much going on today- I'm sure they're not ready yet. You can't expect everything to be perfect and problem free on launch-day. Also, keep your watch on west coast time. It's only 9:43am over there. They have all day to get situated.

It's available YAY!!!! I clicked check for update and it's downloading now. It even said 2.0 in the agreement :)

EDIT:
And yes, I looked up the ipsw file and it is indeed the 2.0 update

Mine just switched from having the 2.0 click for more info to 1.1.4 is the current version!

I wish this would just work already!!!

Kind of wish Apple could just get their things together, surely they knew what the demand would be.

i would totally agree with you, except for on apple's website

http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/appstore/

it says you can get it now. this page was quite different this morning but when 8:00 AM rolled around, they claimed it was ready. they should not have updated their site with dead links and that IS a "screw up" regardless of how you look at it.

but now some people are getting through and its letting them get it, making me think it might be due to high server loads because if apple didn't want us to have it yet, no one would have got it, so either they're lying, or somthing phishy is going on over at 100 Infinite loop...

Oh, you few, you lucky few...

Yeah... About that. THIS FREAKIN THING BRICKED MY iPOD!!!!! Now I wish it never worked in the first place. I can see why they pulled it.

Edit: Sorry for the rant, it's working now. I just put my iPod into restore mode, restarted my comp and it worked.
