I'm waiting for the iPhone Pro that borrows the best feature from the Mac Pro

I think it’s good if you can hold on till Feb/March when the rumours get warmer. That’s my plan.

I know we're talking about a phone that's not coming out for another 10 months, so I hope some of these rumors aren't correct. But I think Apple needs to stop this fragmentation before it gets too out of hand. The first thing SJ did when returning to Apple, was to eliminate all the superfluous products, and streamline the remaining ones. The only difference between the iPhones, should be screen and battery size. Storage options, processor, camera, etc. should be the same on all iPhones. I don't want to have to buy, what is not far from an ipad mini with phone functionality in order to get the best camera, or storage options.

And then you see MacRumors news about how iPhones are "overhyped". I mean writting everyday about "possible" features for almost a year and even more before... I mean, that's just rediculous.

All of y'all wondering why this article was written, it literally says in the first paragraph. Thanks to production shutdowns the phone is backordered some places until January. That only gives you about 9 months of use vs the usual 12 before the new model comes out. If you're on an iPhone 11/12/13 that might be more than enough reason to hold off.

Additionally all rumors point to the phone getting USB-C. That's huge! The last time we had a port change was literally over a decade ago. This isn't some 2% display brightness bump. Lightning is going to be deprecated going forward which means the iPhone 14 will lose value faster than previous phones, as well as being compatible with fewer accessories (sans dongle) over time.

Hoooo baby I cannot wait for this phone. USB-C is that big of a deal to get me to upgrade from my 13 Pro. We should've been on USB-C three years ago.

Well better late than never.

Apple may not be first, but they take their time to do it right.

Finally, the USB-C standard implemented right. Take that everyone else already using it for years.

;)

If there is an “Ultra” iPhone next year, I still think this will be a separate, higher end product, so I would expect a much higher price. And if the periscope lens does get released next year, this will probably only be in the highest end model.

Apple makes the iPhone without the SIM-card slot for the US only. Why would this be so different?

And the EU law doesn't go into effect until the end of 2024. Any device on sale before that time can remain on sale. So the iPhone 16, which would go on sale in the fall of 2024 would be allowed to remain with Lightning. It wouldn't be until the iPhone 17 in 2025 that they'd really be required to make the switch.
Reminder that once again... Leaving a feature out (in this case the SIM card reader) because it is duplicated digitally (eSIMS) is wildly different than differentiating a major component for only one region. You're talking about a massive amount of extra work to setup different production lines for minimal financial gain, all while inviting a gray import market.

The logic around USB-C in this article just doesn't hold up.

Already Apple made a US only model with a block of plastic instead of a SIM slot. Clearly they have different production lines for different regions, they absolutely could make USB-C EU only. I don't think they will, but the fact that it doesn't make sense isn't an issue. There's nothing stopping them. It didn't make sense to withhold SIM slots from US only but they did it and now they can go further if they want.

Also, Apple already released a product with a USB-C port and USB 2.0 speeds. It's entirely possible that if the iPhone 15 line shifts to USB-C that it could be USB 2.0 only. Again, doesn't make sense, but they've shown that they are willing and able to do it.

They have already done that. It's not different from a production standpoint. They've clearly already made different production lines for different regions, the reasons are irrelevant. A SIM board and a USB interface are not that different from an assembly standpoint.

The only two things that I'd find tempting would be the periscope lens and if it was somehow made lighter. I love the 14 Pro Max. The only aspect of it that I don't love is the poor (in comparison to just about every other flagship phone in the world) zoom capabilities.

I am hoping they go USB-C the next go around. I'd like to consolidate some of my cables.

I'm unsure if I'll stay w/ the standard sized Pro or go bigger this time. I tend to flip flop every 2 years.

I couldn't care less about any of these rumors as its 9+ months till I can get my hands on anything. Aside from the two items I mention prior, my current phone does everything I could ever want it to.

I assume the Ultra will replace the Pro Max, which always sounded dumb. So iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro (which is the same size as the Plus but with the better tech), and the 15 Ultra which will be the biggest with the top tier tech, namely the periscope lens module that needs more space.

Yes it did. Almost every major US mobile provider works with eSIMs. Removing the SIM Slot saved Apple money. That's completely different than using a separate component for just one region. Besides not a single rumor has suggested USB-C will be limited to outside the US only.

I think that's a real possibility for the standard iPhone 15 line but Apple has already shown that Pro devices receive USB 4/Thunderbolt speeds.

I would consider the iPhone 15 Pro "Ultra," but I would hate to imagine how heavy that phone will be. It could be heavier than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, already a pretty heavy phone by 2022 standards.
