pairing it with digital zoom for impressive 100x zoom capabilities
Just so’s everyone’s edjamacated, don’t be impressed with anything following the words “digital zoom”, even if it has a number with an impressive looking “x” next to it. Digital “zoom” is not zoom. At all. It’s the same thing as cropping, and then giving you a closer look at what was cropped. The only thing this accomplishes is saving the step of doing this yourself in Photos or some other app. 10x optical zoom is impressive in a phone. 100x “digital zoom” is not. They could also implement 5000x “digital zoom” and present to you nine lovely pixels.

On my digital cameras (yes, there are still those) I disable digital “zooming” altogether. I want to know when actual, optical zooming maxes out, and I would much rather be in charge of where photos are cropped.

AFAIK, due to the extra features of the iPhone 14 Pro Max vs. the Iph14 and Iph14 Pro, there have been recommendations to get the Pro Max if you can. However, price is a factor. I believe the usual caveats apply though... going from an Iph13 to Iph14 probably isn't worth the cost for something that's mostly incremental. If you're coming from an Iph12 or before, then that would be worth it.

I do join the chorus here in wondering if Apple will really move on from the Iph14, to Iph15, just after such a short amount of time. :\

The solid state home-button was fine.

A cut-out on cheap cases and capacitive buttons on more expensive cases.

Force touch detects force, not capacitance. There’s no need for cut-outs or capacitive buttons on cases. The buttons will function identically to regular buttons - a certain amount of force triggers a “click”. It’ll just be digital instead of physical.

My MBP has a Force Touch trackpad, but it doesn't register a click/input from objects that have no current. I don't have an iPhone with a force-touch homebutton to test.

Happy with my 14PM

- can use it now
- Lightning, I don’t own any USB-C devices
- Chances are very high that 15 will be even more expensive
- got a SIM slot (15 maybe w/o for other markets too)
- Don’t see USA/China relationship to be better in 2023 than now
- Don’t see the conflict in Ukraine to become better so maybe availability is even worse than today
- Don’t see why Euro should become stronger but it may be even worse than today so even higher prices possible
- Apple unlikely to put all the big new stuff into the 15 ultra because they need new stuff too for the 16 ultra

Apple makes the iPhone without the SIM-card slot for the US only. Why would this be so different?

And the EU law doesn't go into effect until the end of 2024. Any device on sale before that time can remain on sale. So the iPhone 16, which would go on sale in the fall of 2024 would be allowed to remain with Lightning. It wouldn't be until the iPhone 17 in 2025 that they'd really be required to make the switch.
I personally hope they just release a portless phone only in the EU and everywhere else just has lightning if only because it would be hilarious. It would be such an apple move.

Or they remove the SIM slot too for EU models and put there the USB-C connector 😁

You can get a 14 pro, just check the apple store app every night, they will update with which stores are available for local pickup. Almost every other night I can see black, gold, and purple ones ready for pickup at nearby stores. They disappear after a few hours.

You won't even notice the difference. How would it work with case? Well, you simply slip the phone into the case, as per every other phone 🙄🤦‍♂️
It's a valid question, really. Pull your arm back in your sleeve and try to push your Macbook's trackpad. It won't work, no matter how hard you press. If it's not the same tech, we can talk about that–but it's definitely not a facepalm moment.

so if there is only the power button as a real tactile button, then how will we force reset the phone ??

Holes where the „buttons“ are so you can touch these areas with your fingers.

Just buy the 14 now, order the 15 when it comes out, and sell your 14 on eBay when the 15 arrives (or hand it down to a family member.) That's what I do every year. It's not very expensive when you consider the money you get from reselling the old one. iPhones hold their value fairly well.

My thoughts on the above rumors:

USB-C - will be easier to live with as I can use the same charger and cable for iPhone and iPad Pro when I travel.
Faster processor - at this point, I don’t want faster only, but rather more efficient (longer battery life) while also performing as well or better
Periscope camera lens - don’t care at all. I take far more macro shots than anything and that won’t change.
Solid state buttons - doesn’t matter one way or another. Added water resistance would be nice, but I’m not normally swimming with my iPhone or put myself in situations where I’ll get soaked.
Titanium chassis - can’t wait for this, as well as the curved back to add a bit more hand comfort. I’ll go case-less just so I can feel the unique titanium surface.
New 5G chip - like with the faster processor, I don’t need more cellular speed, but would like to extend the battery life further.
No TouchID or under-screen FaceID - neither are negatives. The latest iteration of FaceID coupled with AOD makes unlocking and using the iPhone fast and easy.

Peak iPhone - I think we’re really close at this point.

Part of the reason that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are so in demand this year is that Apple packed them full of features the standard iPhone 14 models just didn't get. Faster processors, better cameras, and the Dynamic Island make the iPhone 14 Pro far more appealing than the iPhone 13-like iPhone 14 models
I really don't feel like the Pro is that much better than the standard iPhone 14 for everyday use. Even though I'm the more techy person, I got the standard 14 and got my wife the Pro specifically because she is more inclined to use zoom on the camera. I will often grab my wife's phone briefly to do something and she will often do the same with mine.

The faster processor makes no appreciable difference for my use, I'm not doing heavy workloads on my phone. The Dynamic Island was cool when I first saw it and I was jealous my wife was getting it but I wasn't... but now I don't even think about the difference between our phones regarding the dynamic island... it doesn't really save any space on the screen, so I don't care. All reviews I checked out said that other than the zoom on the Pro's camera, the cameras work and produce the same quality images. I was disappointed to not have optical zoom and like I said that's why I got my wife the Pro, but honestly I hardly ever use it.

However, my wife will often comment whenever she picks up my phone how light it is compared to hers, and I get the distinct impression that she is trying to decide whether it was worth getting the Pro with the extra weight in order to have optical zoom. Ultimately, I think she returns to be secure in her decision, but she gets those doubts from time to time.

I really think that iPhones are such a mature and great product now that it's no longer an issue to have a bit of an older or "lower" model. Yeah, I'm looking forward to being able to use USB-C to charge all my devices, but I also have about 20-30 lightning cables right now everywhere I need to use them, so I'm fine for another couple years.

Hoooo baby I cannot wait for this phone. USB-C is that big of a deal to get me to upgrade from my 13 Pro. We should've been on USB-C three years ago.

Well better late than never.
I'm baffled why someone would upgrade just because it has a different charging port.

Yeah it will be great, but it's well down the pecking order on reasons to upgrade, surely? It's just a bloody charging port that Apple will no doubt cripple with USB 2.0 speeds on the non-Pro phones, just like they did with the brand new 10th gen iPad. I'm sure they'll gimp it on the Pro's as well. It's what Apple do as they want people to pay for extra iCloud storage.
