And yet manages to be wrong on every topic, quite a talent really.
What is wrong? Mac will be a great gaming platform in future? Nah, it has been approved that Mac never did well in the gaming industry and I'm really tire of this pointless conversation as they keep failing to prove it. Since nobody ever prove that Mac is a good gaming platform, I'm out of here for not wasting my time. I would suggest you to get PC to play games, not Mac.

How does this exactly work? Do they have a button that says "Export for ARM/M1 processors" ?

I really doubt any developer will put the effort to port a whole game for the Mac as the market is too weak. Even dedicated Mac users have a PC to game on.

As for Capcom, I smell plans for iOS releases. What will happen is they aim for iOS but since iOS games run on Mac nowdays any way it will also be for the Mac. In an unexpected manner, the portables might bring back gaming to the Mac but since iOS is the main market probably (and I am guessing) the Mac version will be a withered down version as its a phone game after all.

Only a year after the PC release. Getting faster. At least it's not the nearly 10 years later it'd often be in the past.

I often wondered who was excited (or why would any developer) for a 10 year old game release. The Sims 2 which is like 20 year old game is being sold for $30 on the app store meanwhile something like RE7 is for $20 on Steam 🤷‍♂️

PC = Console. They are all x86.

Yes. PC gaming is an afterthought in general, everything is developed for consoles first. In this case, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch get all developmental resources, then a very small effort goes into the PC version. We've seen multiple times. Persona 5 Royal's PC version is having issues compared to the Xbox and Switch version. Batman Arkham Knight was underdeveloped on PC and took a year to fix.

I'm countering your argument: PC gaming is NOT important. In terms of Windows, Mac and Linux, then yes, Windows gaming is number one in PC gaming.

Arm is the future. Vr/ar will rely on arm to be untethered. Mac, ios, nintendo, oculus are all on arm and thats bigger than all the other platforms.

Microsoft has developing their own Arm chip. Qualcomm is confident their Snapdragon can compete with the M1. Yes, Arm is the future and will probably bring PC sales out of the slump Windows is starting to face. It'll be about a 5-10 year process before X64-86 becomes the minority.

And it wont be Mac to lead the gaming industry. How many times do I have to say that while we are talking about PC games? You already out of topic.
Arm isn't exclusive to Apple. Arm is an architecture owned by Arm Limited. Apple, Qualcomm, Samsung, Microsft, Google and Nvidia are some of its biggest customers. AMD and Intel have licenses. He's not arguing that Apple will be leading PC gaming, Arm is already leading gaming in mobile devices and the Nintendo Switch. It'll eventually take over PC gaming.

Eh, not everything (looking at you Cyberpunk 2077 and you too Gotham Knights).

There is no difference between Mac App Store or Steam. The Mac App store is installed on all Macs by default. Plus, Steam does not support Apple Silicon so even if Capcom wanted it on Steam, it would not work.
All my Mac games for my 16" M1 are in Steam, apart from my source port of original Quake (as far as I remember). I like all my games in the one place with the one launcher. So yes, I'd rather it came from Steam. Is it "dead in the water" as the post you're commenting on states? No (even though I "liked" the post - more as a "I want it on steam too" though). Can I add it as a non-Steam game to the launcher? Probably. But it's still kinda annoying. I'll obvs never get the same Steam badge things and the social aspect of Steam won't show it as one of my games. If I don't get it immediately there's also zero chance it's going to semi-regularly pop up in a Steam sale as the app store never has sales. If you're a cross-platform gamer too you can't get it on your Mac but install it on a PC either. Mac App Store = Apple version only. Obvs all my Mac Steam games I can automatically install on any PC too. I don't have a gaming PC (at the moment) but various people have a gaming PC and also want to play it mobile on their Mac laptop.

Everybody enjoy while it’s compatible with your current version of macOS. The next forced software cut-off in the name of innovation will surely come. Who knows when? But it will come.
Sad but true. I'm wondering if they'll announce the end of Rosetta 2 in about 3 years and kill all my current Steam games. :/

I've got a question on this... does it need Metal 3?

Because I thought earlier system compatibility announcements said it would run on Monterey too?

Not definitely yet sure but at the moment I think Ventura forces you to use DriverKit audio drivers (no longer allowed kext-based ones). So I'm not going to be able to update to Ventura while all my nice pro audio kit isn't supported with stable enough, very low latency drivers (RME's are still in beta).

So if it runs on Monterey and that previous system specs listing is correct, then yay! But I thought this seemed to need Metal 3, and if Metal 3 = Ventura then I'm not gonna be able to buy it for the forseeable (unless Monterey gets a Metal 3 updatem, which kinda seems a bit odd as a Ventura feature)

We will find out for sure on Friday. The marketing made it sound like you need Metal 3's resolution scaling tech to get good performance, which seems silly since this is a last gen (is gross gen a better term to use here) game.

Steam is mainstream but it is terrible in many ways and I use Steam since it first beta. I always buy on Mac App Store if possible.

Bro what?! How the hell is Steam "terrible in many ways?" They're obviously doing something right if Microsoft and Playstation are using it.

It's not about the hardware, it's about the platform and Mac sucks for that. That's the main reason why many games dont support Mac.
Not really about the platform. It’s all about marketshare. The Nintendo Switch gets more games than a Mac and its hardware SUCKS! I found it laughable while Breath of the Wild was one of my favorite games recently, how bad it ran at times and it’s not even graphically impressive enough. And this was back in 2017!

Most players are PC users while Mac users are extremely low and Steam stat already proven that which is only 2% just for Steam.
Steam is horrible on Macs. I avoid it when possible so it doesn’t surprise me. I have 5 macs. Mix of Intel and M1 systems. i7,i9, M1 Max and Ultras. Some have dedicated GPUs. They all have this same issue when Steam has been running for a few hours it starts to freeze up. It starts taking up a lot of resources. Personally if there was another way for me to keep my save files in sync between all my macs and gaming PCs I would avoid Steam on the Mac.

You know what? Despite having good reviews… I prefer the third person view for Resident Evil. RE4 was so good, that I really am used to that perspective. I don’t feel right playing a RE in first person view, but I guess I’ll have to give it a try someday.

The remakes, on the other hand, are a must for me.
Same here. I couldn’t get into the later Resident Evil games. 1-4 are it for me. 2 Remake is one of my favorite games in recent years.

MAS syncs saves in the cloud (well for games that support it, I don't believe Apple forces that feature).

The question wasn't pointed at me, but as a Steam user who wants this game on Steam I'll still freely admit to various buggering about I've had to do on Steam. XBox controller not working for a start. I had to bugger about and blacklist the XBox 360 controller using its manufacturer and device ID in my steam config files because it was making Steam fill up with phantom XBox 360 controllers that stopped my XBox (not-360) controller become unusable. It's also been a bit flakey on a few things like regularly failing to sync stuff (although I am now admittedly using the Steam beta to try improve earlier issues).

Also you get things that are "fully controller compatible" according to the shop. Like Descenders(?) MTB game: I bought it. Controllers are flakey AF. Seemed to semi-work in the menu but nothing at all in-game. Tried to contact dev. Nothing (although not exactly Steam's fault). In the end got a refund. Similarly Human Fall Flat was supposed to be fully controller compatible. I bought it so I can plug my MacBook in the telly and me and my Girlfriend can play together on our XBox controllers. Fully compatible my arse. They don't work. I could go to the controller user library thing and get a controller config. But it's just keyboard mapping so we still can't both play (or I can make my own 2nd controller custom map I guess if that works I guess, but hardly just open and play as advertised). Hollow Knight? The controller "fix" in the paragraph above semi-seemed to work, but then with the controller regularly just becoming unresponsive for a number of seconds at a time. I had to put another fix in I finally found to force it to pay attention to my XBox controller and not go daydreaming about other phantom non-existent XBox 360 ones during the middle of the game.

My Hollow Knight controller fix did seem to actually come from a PC user if my memory serves me right. So maybe this is more an XBox controller problem + Steam controllers/controller overlay rather than Mac specific. I dunno. But forcing native controllers (Steam controllers off) usually gives me no controller at all.

So as I say, I still use Steam and want to use Steam, but it could do with a bit of TLC for Mac users. Especially listing games as controller compatible and then you find your lovely latest XBox controller you bought to game with your iPad + Mac (that works perfectly with everything from the App Store or from Apple Arcade when I had free trial) sometimes just works, usually needs a hard-to-find workaround for most stuff I have, or doesn't work at all, so it's not exactly ideal. Throw in video previews won't play unless I close my laptop screen and force it to run on the external monitor and a few other weird annoyances, it's not exactly as smooth an experience as I'd expect from the leading game launcher/store/platform thing.

Some of that might be more to do with the original game devs, but I think the Apple App Store clearly wins on the "it just works as advertised" front. But with that said, you get none of the cross-platform compatibility for all your purchased games or any of the decent social aspect so it means I still want to use Steam, I just wish it had a bit more polish from Valve and some of the devs.

I thought feature parity between DX12 and Metal 3 is a lot closer than Metal 2. So I thought the shaders may be far easier to port over from DX12 to Mac with Metal 3. Hence I figured, since most capcom titles were directX based from what I heard, it might have only been coming to Mac because of Metal 3 support. But if that's not the case, then maybe it works on Metal 2 fine shader-wise, but just with far worse performance due to lack of upscaling and the direct loading whatever-it-was thing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The FACT is that Mac is never known for gaming industry especially after the transition to Apple Silicon. I have no idea why you wish to defy the fact.
Windows is THE PLATFORM yet some stuff doesn’t exist or took a very very long time. Spider-Man? Final Fantasy 7? God of War? If it took 4 years to port over to Windows, it’s no surprise macs would be left out.

It’s all business decisions and marketshare. I am making a game that runs fine on a 2012 Windows laptop. Any Mac can run it but I’m not releasing it on macs due to their marketshare. It’s not about good or bad platforms from a technology perspective. It’s all about ROI. Big game studios also use game engines that weren’t available for the Mac.

Even the almighty Windows had a dry period from 2013 to just recently. I provided a few titles earlier but consoles had MUCH MUCH more games than Windows. And when Windows did get ports, they were so horrible it wasn’t worth it. There are some BAD PC ports out there.

Every platform is a gaming one. Stop this negativity. It’s just a broader way of thinking about exclusives. PS5 doesn’t get Halo, but Microsoft platforms do. It wasn’t until recently that Sony exclusives were only on the console.

Are you plugging it in via USB. Is your Xbox controller a 360 one or an Xbox One/Series X one? If it's the former you may want to consider switching to the Series X one as 360 controllers nowadays are cooked for modern systems. I was able to plug my Dualsense into my Mac with no issues.

Actually I think it will. The door is open now for ARM. Rumors are the Windows will switch to ARM. Things will be changing.

Yep. Facing some issues with Persona 5 Royal on my $4,000 gaming system where it runs fine on my $400 base PS4 even. Ugh sometimes I hate being a PC gamer.
