Hello all...

I have a 2020 Mazda CX-5. I have read through a lot of the pages in this thread and I have seen a few mentions of Mazda and their implementation. Is there a recommendation on which version of Carlink or other product to get for those who have a Mazda?

I have the Carlinkit 4. It works most of the time but Mazda seems to not play as nice with adapters as my Acura which handles the same model 99% of the time. Would love to hear if any that work better. I also have a 2020 cx5

I have the Carlinkit 5 (2air) on 2018 CX-5 and 2024 CX-30. Both work great. I got them from HERE. Only US$34 each.

I tried the 5 and for me it was no better but it doesn’t support easy switching between phones like the 4 and earlier versions if that’s matters to you.

I've had almost zero issues with my Carlinkit 3.0 for several years. Recently, I decided to pick up a Carlinkit 5.0 to test. So far it's been mostly fine. Background mode seems to be less reliable for me on it than my 3.0. For instance, despite the background mode being toggled on, sometimes I still see the Carlinkit (black/red) interface, and oftentimes even though CarPlay does connect, my Ford's screen remains in the Sync interface and I have to tap a button on the screen to get the CarPlay interface to come up. It also doesn't seem to play well with the new High Speed mode, although I didn't do extensive testing of that.

I just checked for new firmware yesterday and got offered a new version--2024.07.20 I believe. I installed it but haven't had time to test it and don't see any other mention of it yet to see if there are any noticeable improvements. It did install fine for me OTA though.

The 5.0 has a bunch more settings than my 3.0 did--I'm not even sure what they all do. Would be nice to update the wiki with a description of each option along with recommended settings/values (although I know some have to be tweaked for each individual car/head unit). Is there already a write-up somewhere?

Anyway, mainly just wanted to give a heads-up about the new 5.0 firmware. I will report back if I see any major bugs or improvements.

Thanks everyone... I was able to pickup the 5.0 onsale plus I had a few gift cards for amazon, so I bit the bullet. So far, knock on wood, it has been pretty darn dependable. Been using it for little over a week now and I am so far very happy with it. Keep in mind this is coming from having just the plug in my phone version. While the time to start up, is about the same, maybe a little longer, but not by much, the controls and response time have been nil.

So far so good and I am very happy. The main reason for the purchase was because my cable connection on the phone is pretty much dead at this point and I wanted to continue using my phone's carplay feature.

I have a 2017 Mazda 3 and this adapter seems to work better than the carlinkit 3.0. Only issue is I can't access the web interface, assuming there's one. Have tried different IP addresses, connecting the adapter to a wall outlet first but no luck. I also haven't tried the carlinkit 4.0 or 5.0 adapter. Not sure how much of a difference there is between the three versions.

Also, does anyone else experience low microphone volume during regular phone calls with these 3rd party adapters? Not sure if it's an iOS, infotainment or adapter issue..

I've been using this one for over a year now and have not had any complaints with it. According to my wife and others with whom I talk during phone calls, there is no issue with volume levels. It's currently priced at $30 on Amazon, and I would recommend it highly.

I just completed two 3 hour drives. While I typically experienced a reconnect every hour or two with any Carlinkit adapter, new version 2024.07.20 proved to be 100% stable.

The only issue I have found with the Carlink kit, is it seems to heat up my phone... I have an hour or so commute home and yesterday, it over heated. First time since I installed it. Now granted, it was a little hot outside yesterday, but I did have the AC on and the phone still got very hot.

I don't believe that this is a problem of the adapter. CarPlay eats quite a bit of the iPhone's CPU. You can also tell from the battery drain. The car is just the display and the adapter a simple proxy...

Try 192.168.1.101 or 192.168.2.1 if its not 192.160.50.2

Also some of the adapters require you to plug them into a USB power source to update them (they won't update if plugged into the CarPlay usb port on your car)
very late reply but still can't access it. "Router IP address" is 192.168.5.1 but it just times out.
I even tried changing the router IP to 192.168.1.101 because why not but still no luck.

I looked at the listing for this adapter and it doesn't mention OTA updates anywhere. Also, it looks like it has the Autokit app already installed. I wonder if that's why the config menu isn't accessible, assuming there's eve one available.

Make sure you’re connected the the dongle’s WiFi network when trying to look for updates. That often helps.

But yeah, most of the wireless CarPlay dongles all have a similar web interface and use a similar IP address to connect to them

Upgraded to an iPhone 16 Pro running ios18 and have lots of audio cutouts listening on Spotify that didn’t happen with my old 13 Pro

Did anyone have an issue where if the phone connects to the car infotainment system, the wireless carplay dongle refuses to connect? In this case I'd have to unpair my phone from the car and then it's work. It's a little annoying when it happens.

This is perfectly normal behaviour: wireless CarPlay connects over Wi-Fi but via an initial Bluetooth connection. If Bluetooth is already connected to the car then the dongle cannot connect to the phone. The solution is to unpair your phone and car OR to prevent automatic connection.

Phone calls that you make over CarPlay are over Wi-Fi to the dongle and thence via the wired CarPlay. This is why sometimes others on this thread have comments about the call quality of their particular configurations.

Tried everything without success. I'm pretty sure it just doesn't have web interface access, assuming there's one.

I found the perfect adapter for my 2017 Mazda 3. Much faster than any other adapter I've tried and also has GPS passthrough. Had to set the media delay to 500 ms. Going any lower breaks the audio.

I'm hoping this is finally the "set it and forget it" adapter I've been looking for.

No problem here with a 16 Pro listening to Spotify. Also coming from a 13 Pro. Running iOS 18.0.1.

Does it support multiple phones/automatically connect? I share a vehicle with two other drivers and this is something that carlinkit does well. Even if I have to restart it the carlinkit eventually will connect, but I would love it to work faster. I recognize that Mazda is probably the issue but a manufacturer that works with Mazda as good as a cable should be possible!

I drove for hours this weekend with no problem, first time since getting 18.0.1 as well as since changing to one of the three digit 5ghz channels on the carlinkit v5 configuration.

I haven’t tried multiple phones but I don’t see a list of devices in the settings. I’m going to assume it doesn’t have that functionality.
