There's always the beta. Lots of improvements and new features since last public release. And very stable too.

Submitted request for beta. Maybe I'll hear something soon? If its stable, do plan on releasing a stable build to the app store anytime soon? Most companies I've seen release bug fixes sometimes monthly for their apps....

Just got back from overseas, will start going through my beta backlog tomorrow.

I've still got a few more things planned that I want to get into the next release, so can't say yet when it'll be going live in the App Store. Got a lot I'm working on all at once!

Will the app alert me / send a notifications if there are severe weather watches/warnings for my area? I'm getting conflicting info on if I need the Mac app or not. Really not interested in spending $10 for the Mac app, especially since I'm a pilot and rarely home/same state as my iMac. I would assume though with a $4 price tag the iOS app would have NWS alerts.

Just replied to your email, but for anyone else reading this - you do need the Mac app right now to receive notifications on your iPhone. The Mac app acts like a server, constantly checking the weather in the background and then forwarding any relevant notifications to your iPhone. This implementation is just the first step towards bringing full notification support to the iPhone app sometime later this year!

Is this always going to be the case as I no longer own an Mac?

It'll be a shame to of got the app, purchased the premium version but still can't get notifications.

Nope! As I mentioned at the end of the previous post, the Mac app was just the first step towards bringing full notification support to the iPhone app. Hoping to launch that later this year!

Looking forward to it.

I hope its sooner than that!!! Seeing how last update was October 2015, and there has been an extensive "beta" period, I'm surprised this isn't part of the beta.
@GIZBUG - You should bear in mind that not all app developers do this as a full time job- The maker of Carrot has some of the best community engagement I've seen and works hard to develop new features with community feedback. He said its planned and I'm sure he will do it when he can. If you don't like it, use another app.

Bear in mind, too, that it is quite likely WatchOS 3 is around the corner (introduced at WWDC). I've heard from a number of developers that WatchOS is not the easiest to develop for. If I were them, I'd probably not kill myself trying to work around WatchOS 2's limitations only to find out that the new APIs in WatchOS 3 fixed the issue and made all that work unnecessary.

Thanks for purchase advice....

What do weather alerts have to do with watchos though . I'll just use storm app for alerts

I'd suspect quite a bit since the Watch is not simply a second screen for the iPhone and has limitations on refresh intervals to preserve battery life. But if the other app makes you happier, by all means go for it.

If you're looking for an app that provides hyper-local notifications and government-issued severe weather alerts I'd take a look at Dark Sky.

Hey just out of curiosity, is there any reason that an app can't support going backwards in time travel mode on the watch? For instance in CARROT Weather it would be interesting (though honestly I'm not sure how useful) to see what the actual temperature was at different parts of the day using time travel, but I don't think I've run across any third-party apps that actually support something like that. Is it available to developers? Is it too cumbersome to implement?

You can indeed implement support to go backwards - the stocks complication does this, for example. Just doesn't make sense for most use cases though. (I skip it with CARROT because it lets me present more data into the future.)

maybe the temperature for the last hour in time travel would be useful? I dunno if it's too complicated to make it an *option* at the expense of the final hour of currently presented data, but it might help gauge how the temperature is going up and stuff for people who aren't massively tuned into that sort of thing?

That sounds a little more useful. Will add that to the list.

I've noticed the watch not updating location data every half hour anymore. I left home an hour ago and it still shows my home town on the watch, and I'm 40 miles away now.

Weird! Nothing has changed on the app's end for a while, it's possible that it's something to do with the watchOS update they did a little while ago. (I haven't noticed any issues myself since the update.) You still have background services set to always, right?

Of course, I've changed nothing on my end other than update. Worked fine up until recently. It will eventually update itself, just very slow. After I posted my last message, the watch updated to a town near where I am that I already passed through before. It's almost like its lagging and updating in order, just 30 mins behind. You know what I mean?
