Been using carrot on the S4 and trying to understand. Why does it take so long for the app to update temperature and conditions etc? The Apple one is instant. Last night I just had the watch on LTE, opened the app and itnsaidnit was sunny (the sun was down) and it was raining. Eventually it updated. Weird. On ultra premium too.
Same here. Tried Carrot a dozend times on my 1. Series, bumped it and then on the new 4 I gave it another try.
No automatic refreshing at all. So it is useless for me. Too bad.

If I do that, how do I click okay on your app? Or do I open it, switch back and press okay?

Are you thinking "the Apple Watch app" means the one on your iPhone that you use to connect to the watch (that app is actually called "Watch" rather than "Apple Watch"), instead of meaning the Carrot Weather app on the apple watch?

Carrot Weather needs to be open on both devices simultaneously. That is what it means.

That's on my list!

Will look into adding those as options!

Apple's Weather app doesn't download new data as frequently as CARROT's does, so when you open the app it usually is going to download new data. Downloading data to the watch unfortunately still takes a little while, even on the newer watches.

Still hasn’t updated for the 12 o’clock hour thirteen minutes into it. I worked out that my MLB app updates every eight minutes. My temperature jumped nine degrees when I clicked on the complication this morning.

And the phone app launches from scratch each time I go back to it. I’ve tried Carrot multiple times, usually after it gets updated, but end up deleting it because of this issue.

It says to leave the Apple Watch app open in the foreground. If I do that, how do I click okay on your app? Or do I open it, switch back and press okay? And should the sync be immediate or does it really take 1/2 hour?

The Apple Watch app, as in the CARROT Weather app on your Apple Watch.

The complication updates about every 30 minutes. If it updated every 8 minutes, you'd have to pay more for the subscription :p

Though I'm not sure why the phone app is launching from scratch every time you open it, it should stay in memory for a long time. Are you sure you're not just talking about the loading screen? It shows the loading screen if it's been >10 minutes since you last opened the app.

I’m dense. That makes sense.

It’s not even updating that frequently. Woke up this morning and it’s still showing yesterday evenings temperature. Kind of disappointed that I paid for a premium subscription.

Also, I paid for both levels of subscription, but haven’t seen any sign of a refund for the lower level subscription. How does that work?

I just purchased the Carrot app as well as the Premium membership.

I have a couple of questions:
  1. On the Apple Watch, how far into time is the “Precip Change” complication showing?
  2. On iOS, is it possible to add a time slider to the radar view?
Keep up the great work!

Very strange, I haven't had any other reports of the complications not updating on the Series 4. Can you tap the green feedback button at the bottom of the settings screen on the iOS app to send me a support ticket? I'll get you added to the beta so that you can get access to a few of the fixes I've been working on that may kick loose whatever's causing the complication not to update.

And Apple issues the refund automatically, but it can take a few days for it to get processed through their system.

The precipitation chance complication shows the chance that it's going to rain in the near term, i.e. between now and around 30 minutes from now.

And I'll look into a radar slider!

Not sure if it’s been discussed but I have noticed a bug in the way the gauge/circle are displayed in the Infograph complication to represent low/high temperature: the color gradient should go from a “cold” color to a “hot” one (e.g. green to yellow). However, the gradient now is always centered (e.g. yellow to green to yellow).

The official weather complication works as expected.

This is fixed in the beta! Should be available to everyone soon.

I have a question :)

I often work in an environment where I have no data reception (cell or wifi) for between 6-12 hours at a time. Do either the phone app or the watch app cache data points to be displayed in the future (a couple of hours out) as to update the complication while no new live data is actually received? In essence showing the forecasted data vs. live values that would normally be pushed from the server if that makes sense?

Besides that, I love the app and keep up the great work.

Thanks.

Guys I'm constantly seeing Carrot Weather being referenced as the best Weather App (for iPhone & Apple Watch), however from what I see as a Dark Skies user in the UK is that:
  • You do not get standard hyper-forecasts unless you buy an additional premium subscription? You get these as standard with Dark Skies.
  • The UK is not supported for all aspects of the application?
Am I right or wrong? Is it worth the outlay?

It does update complications with cached data throughout the day, though I've never actually testing something this extreme - so I honestly couldn't tell you how well the complications would perform in this situation. You'd have to go into it as an experiment :p

The only thing that's not available in the UK right now is radar imagery, but my maps provider is expecting to add that very soon.

And you get the same exact forecast in CARROT as the Dark Sky app gives you. The subscription is mostly for more frequent data updates, customization options, and notifications.

Hi. Does it update in the background at all without a subscription?

Thanks for that then, I'll add it to my next buy list come payday. Can you advise / confirm that you have to take out the subscription to get the hyper-weather alerts that you get with the Dark Sky app?

I'd like to know on that one as well :)

Hi. Does it update in the background at all without a subscription?

It does, but not very often. The complications are definitely intended to be used with the subscription.

The reason the subscription is necessary is because the Apple Watch complication updates automatically in the background every 30 minutes. Unfortunately, my weather data provider charges a small amount for each weather data request - and this quickly adds up when the Apple Watch complication is requesting 48 updates per day. (For comparison’s sake, a user who doesn’t have a complication installed typically uses only 1 or 2 update requests per day.) Without charging extra for the subscription, in just 1 year it would cost me more to supply you the weather data than you paid for the app. So I either had to offer a subscription or not make an Apple Watch app at all!

Is it necessary for third party apps to display the name and icon off the app on the Siri watch face card? The name and icon doesn't provide any information, such as weather conditions etc., but only wastes one line of text out of the three possible.

Yes, unfortunately - that's what it displays for all 3rd party apps.
