If I pay for the App itself, but do not upgrade to premium, can I still customize the complications to some degree or can I only use the ones you provided? Also, how often does the Watch app update without the premium upgrade? And finally, how much more Watch battery will be used for the premium upgrade that is constantly fetching data 24x7? (Compared to the non-premium version)

No, you can't customize the complication without the premium upgrade. The Watch refreshes its weather data every 4 hours without the upgrade, though the Watch will always display the weather for the current hour (using the "hourly" data it downloaded previously). I haven't noticed (or heard any reports of) any adverse effects on battery life with the premium upgrade, it shouldn't be updating so often that it actually affects the battery life.

The premium is worth the $1.99 :) by far the best weather app. I have noticed no difference in battery life - even when I use two complications.

Is it a one time $1.99 charge or a yearly $1.99 charge? I thought I read it was a yearly fee, somewhere.

If it is yearly, how do I cancel it after the first year if I sell my Watch, etc?

Yes, it's a yearly charge, but the subscription doesn't automatically renew. You have to purchase it again every year.

OK, I assumed it was an automatic renewal. (I know, I know, I should never assume...)

At the end of the year, what do you expect will happen to those of us who are forgetful? Will you politely remind us once or twice (key being ONLY once or twice...) to renew? Also, will the App revert to it's pre-premium state and we lose our customization's or will we simply revert back to every 4 hours for our updates? I realize this annual renewal is a new concept, so you might not know exactly what will happen until your first subscribers hit the 12 month mark.

Thanks for your quick replies!

I just got carrot how is it for showing rain is due or it is raining compared to dark sky?

I generally find Carrot more accurate when it comes to predicting a time for it to start raining, yeah you might not get the nice animated rain effect in the app background like you do on Dark Sky but I'd prefer the accuracy.

I've just checked Carrot on my watch and it's saying I'll be getting rain in 40mins but unfortunately the only thing I'm going to be looking at in 40mins is the inside of my eyelids.

Good night all.

CARROT Weather for iOS doesn't currently have standalone notifications - you need the Mac app to receive them. The Mac app works sort of like a server, constantly checking the weather in the background and then forwarding notifications directly to your phone/watch.

I just got a chance to read this entire thread and I noticed several early comments about needing the Mac version to get notifications on your phone and Watch. What kind of notifications are you talking about? I think the big red flag was a remark about the Mac acting like a weather server for the phone/watch.

Since I do not own a Mac, what features do I lose if I only buy the phone version for $3.99 and the premium upgrade for $1.99 a year?

few things im wondering here. i have 3 weather apps and their corresponding watch apps to compare.

Carrot Premium
Dark Sky
BeWeather 2

Now i noticed that all three have slight different weather readings before. it was 36 degrees and sleeting for awhile tonight. Dark Sky told me it was drizzling, BeWeather correctly said it was sleeting, and Carrot stated it was mostly cloudy with a 36% chance of rain.

later on, it was blatantly snowing and was in the low 30's. BeWeather said it was Ice pellets, Dark Sky was convinced it was partly cloudy and Carrot said it was raining currently with a 24% chance of rain.

basically all of them were messed up, but carrot does update much more than the others. its funny too, if i manually update Dark Sky and BeWeather, the current conditions it shows correctly, aren't necessarily what it shows on the watch complication. this was part of the reason i switched to Carrot. My main gripes with Carrot are as follows....

Way way way too cartoonish for me. I want sleek, accurate weather data, presented that way as well. The wasted space on the complication saying "hooray!" or whatever other silly sayings it has, just annoys me. i would rather the complication say "light drizzle, heavy snow, raining" etc and leave out the "chance of rain". if its cloudy, say so. if its raining...tell me it is. if its gonna rain soon (and i know the app already does this) then say so. i feel like i can look at the watch 4 times an hour, without the weather changing outside, and get 4 different current conditions. I also want to know my current location data so i know the app is up to date and correct, and leave out the Hi/Low.

MakerOfCARROT......for the price we are paying for the app and the premium on top, PLEASE allow us to choose exactly what data we want to display on the complication sort of the way BeWeather does. its extremely customizable. also, and i know I've asked before, but can we please have a straight forward sleek looking theme kind of like dark weather without the goofy cartoon characters and little funny quips?

EDIT: ok so half an hour after posting this (2 hours since snow started), all 3 weather apps are in line and now state "snow, stopping in 45 mins". took awhile and after some deviation, it looks like they are finally all correct. funny thing is, i think they all get weather data from the same source.

I believe there are 3 total reminders, one at 2 weeks before the expiration, one at 7 days before, and another after it has expired.

Also, will the App revert to it's pre-premium state and we lose our customization's or will we simply revert back to every 4 hours for our updates?

After the subscription expires, the custom complications won't show up anymore but they won't be lost - once you renew, it should automatically go back to displaying it the way you had it set up before.

The only thing the Mac app adds is rain and severe weather alert notifications. I'm planning on adding notifications to the iPhone app without needing the Mac app in the future - that'll be part of the premium subscription.

I'm working on adding more customization to the complications, just remember it takes a lot of time and effort to add these things. CARROT Weather was the first Watch app that allowed you to customize the complication, the first to allow you to add a second complication, etc etc - everyone else that's coming out with those features just copied off all that work and then added a couple new features. So now I have to play catch up to them :p

As for changing the entire iPhone app to look like a regular weather app, I don't think that's going to happen. That's just not the kind of app I'm interested in making - and it'd be a ridiculous amount of effort to add an entire secondary user interface.

I ditched Dark Sky last night and paid £2.99 plus the extra £1.99 for the subscription. I will monitor to see how accurately it predicts the unpredictable British weather. Certainly loads faster than Dark Sky

Ah, that explains it! The latest versions had to be bumped up to require iOS 9 because of the integration of watchOS 2.

Here is my dilemma with this App as a complication. I already use Fantastical for my large complication on several Watch faces, which I prefer. I use the default small Weather complication for the temperature on most Watch faces. I would like a couple of other weather related choices, like the feels like temp or hi-lo for the day, but I realize the small is quite limited.

I have not seen what the Carrot small complications look like, other then the Bonus Wind in a couple of screen shots. Does anyone have a couple of screen shots of what is possible with a Carrot small complication? (All the different options, if possible). Are some small complications bigger than others? From there, I am willing to touch open the App for more details when needed.

have you already got the premium subscription? if you have, just go to edit the complications and there's helpful previews of all the options there.

I have not spent the $6 yet, or I would try it myself. Hence, my dilemma.... Do I spend the money to see if I like it for a seemingly limited use case or just keep using the free Weather app from Apple.

Sorry if that was not clear from my earlier posts.
