My Journeyman messenger bag from Copper River Bags is scheduled for delivery today. I'll post a review and some photos, likely after I get a chance to use it over the weekend.

Not that my opinion matters but I'll just say it:

I too used to put more effort into finding the right case for my iDevices and Mac laptops. No longer.

I noticed that once the novelty and perception of newness of the item falls away from my mind, the feeling of necessity to have the "right" case falls away. In fact, I'm just as happy putting the iPad or whatever laptop I own at that time in a padded mailer and in my bag.

Just my few cents :)

I got the delivery confirmation on my voyager [copper river] bag on friday and was at my doorstep on monday...soaking in the rain. Glad they wrapped the bag in plastic before they put it in the box.

First impressions, not as big as I thought. The ipad slot is fairly snug with smart cover on so I doubt it would hold a book-type case in there. And for the main compartment my 13" macbook pro is a fairly snug fit. Was hoping I could fit my SRL in there as well but I'm not sure. Although I'm coming from a standard laptop bag that's very rigid so I may just need to get used to it. Not a fan of the shoulder strap--feels like a seat belt. Although I can look for a shoulder rest and solve that.

Aside from the shoulder strap everything else is pretty nice. Aside from the nylon shoulder strap everything is really thick leather. The lining is smooth but I thought it would be softer. Granted this is my first real leather bag so i'm probably just not used to it. I'll post another review / some pictures after a few days of use.

Have you considered getting a sev?

I actually picked up on one of the scottevest's the travel vest specifically. It looks like a regular vest and holds the iPad 2 with smart cover perfectly. On paper it seems like a super nerdy piece of clothing and if you're out announcing all the gadgets it holds then you're just asking for it.

If I'm out with the miss's I'd much rather rock the vest then the both of us sporting shoulder bags.

My Journeyman bag arrived as well late last week and my initial impressions pretty much mirror yours. The bag is smaller than I thought it would be. I was hoping to be able to fit a couple lenses in it along with my iPad. I knew it would be tight, but thought it would work. Now that I have the bag here, I don't think it is going to as it is just a little too small to fit my 70-200 or even my 24-105. I have also noticed that the leather is marking up my polyurethane smart cover pretty badly.

I was hoping to post some photos and write a more detailed review, but my bag also arrived with a broken rivet on one of the bottom corners, so I just finished packing it back up for the return trip so it can be repaired. I'm not too upset by this as it is a very nice bag (the leather is amazing) and the people at CRB stand behind their product, but it is an inconvenience.

I still plan on writing a review and posting photos as soon as it is returned, probably next week.

Did you get black or brown? I have the brown and noticed that on the bottom corners but they rubbed right off. I looked at it now and didn't really notice anything. Granted I've only been using it for a few days so far and I basically take the ipad out and leave it on my desk till I leave work at night, so it's not constantly going in and out of the bag.

Copper river bags

I ordered my copper river messenger bag 3 weeks ago to the day off thier ebay site and it finally shipped. The eBay listing said it would ship in 5 days. I received numerous email from them reassuring me my bag would ship in a few days, the first one was 14 days before it actually shipped. Not to mention the many misspelled words and attempts to be funny all came across as mock to the fact they just don't care. Their unprofessionalism is a huge let down. I hope the bag is way better than their costumer service.

My manly worry isn't carrying the iPad in public... it's the fact that I buy so many different cases and sleeves for it.

Reminds me of my lady and her purse purchases. Yikes!

Had this for a week and totally love it. I take my iPad and/or MacBook Pro out more often. It's also really light but everything fits perfectly!

I just got today the STM Scout XS/iPad bag, really like it so far. This is a keeper so far me for my iPad 2. On Sunday I bought the STM Alley bag for my MBA and traveling for my MBA 13" late model.

While I have lusted over the SF Bags offerings, the price and look of "expensive" had me concerned. I like the STM bags for the canvas. Had in the past camera bags that were canvas, and liked decorating them with souvenir pins from my travels. One to remind me of the fun I had in travel... but the other is that it made the bag look less like it had tech gear inside.

The other side is that canvas bags do look more "manly" over leather in the long run...

Yeah I think mine shipped 1 day shy of three weeks. Shipping itself was pretty fast. I got the notice on friday and was at my door on monday. The only confusion was two weeks later I got an email that essentially said the same thing as when I ordered that it could take 1-2 weeks. Apparently that was just a reminder but would have been nice to say at the top it's a courtesy reminder or something.

And yeah I do get a hint of that trying-to-be-funny-ism with the 100 year warranty. They really mention how it's 100 year warranty and when your grandkids return it make sure they know it's ONLY 100 years, etc.

Don't ever get a dSLR camera then. It's odd you're on this quest to find just the right size bag that carries what you need and then realize you need something bigger for certain times and other times you want something smaller. Think I have like 4 camera bags :)

Check out the Timbuk 2 Small Fry "10 and Timbuk 2 Candybar. I own both and they both fit the iPad 2 w/ an InCase Book Jacket on.

In my opinion, as long as there's no strap, it doesn't look like a purse or man-bag.

If it does have a strap, it needs to look more like a laptop bag.

But personally, I use this Fossil sleeve and carry it with my hand:

Brenthaven ProStyle Satchel for iPad

May I recommend the Brenthaven ProStyle Satchel for iPad. A friend just sent me an email telling me that he ordered it.

Brown... never been a big fan of black leather. I've tried rubbing the marks off of my orange smart cover, but they don't seem to come off very easily. It's not really a big deal for me, but thought I'd mention it.

My bag was delivered back to CRB yesterday, and they said they would get it repaired and back out within 24 hours so I'm hopeful I'll have it back by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
