I really like this one. It is made by Col. Littleton.

Someone mentioned Maxpedition a few pages earlier. I have the Maxpedition Jumbo S (the left-side carry version) that I bought a few years ago as an everyday carry-all. It's style is Law Enforcement or Military and meant for concealed carry, which is a joke here in CA since it's nearly impossible for law-abiding citizens to conceal carry, so you can guess the other type of folk that end up conceal carrying. Anyway, it's rugged, low-key and doesn't scream "steal me" in a crowded area.

Plenty of good reviews online for this bag:
YouTube review showing one guy's setup of this bag to carry emergency supplies.

The iPad fits perfectly in this. They don't show you the height of the bag in the measurement above but the iPad goes right up to the top flap where it says 3 inches.

This thread cracks me up.

Buy any case. Whatever makes you happy. Do you really care what other people think? That's not alpha male thinking... in fact, it's the opposite.

Take the bag out in public. If anyone gives you a hard time about it, tell them if they are insecure enough to think a bag or the color of a shirt defines their sexuality, then this isn't the bag for them.

The dude from the Hangover doesn't need the satchel to make him look ridiculous; he's got plenty of that going for him already. If the Rock carried a murse, would he no longer be the Rock? That's right, murse or no murse, the Rock would still beat the crap out of you.

If you need to ask about how manly a bag is on a thread, you might as well ask about your tight jeans and your designer t-shirt. Come out of the closet y'all.. it's 2011 and things are a bit more progressive now.

Anything in leather is going to resemble a purse. Canvas/cordura material is my recommendation although none of the bags mentioned besides the tactical ones are remotely manly.

I disagree. Just because it's made of leather doesn't mean it resembles a purse or handbag. I have three leather bags and none of them resemble a purse or handbag. Not to mention leather is much smarter and professional looking then canvas or any other material.

Makes no sense at all. Many leather items are made specifically for men. Leather is normally attributed to men. Only the girly finished leather is feminine.

Take a rectangular leather bag and put handles on it and it's masculine....make it letter/legal size with a strap and it's unisex....

I don't see the big deal about you men carrying a leather bag if you walk like a straight man and you know your straight and act like your straight then there is a chance you are straight and just happen to have the need to carry you devices in a bag NBD

I probably shouldn't notify y'all that the gheys collectively agreed that super practical and seemingly unstylish nylon backpacks are all the rage for fall 2011, but I thought I'd share this insider scoop since it's relevant to the thread.

I don't care what people think, but a guy walking into a room with a strap over their shoulder is going to draw some attention (Starbucks doesn't count).

BUT, this not just about an image issue. It is more about comfort COMBINED with image. This is not just about what men look like carrying purses in to places like Lowes or theaters. Women have it a little easier because they can throw their iPad in their purse, my wife does. Guys have to be a lot more selective, IMHO. And it isn't just what I think. It is what my wife thinks. She doesn't like me to look too OFF. 20+ years, she is used to me carrying something, cameras, Newton, now iPad, etc., but it still maters.

We don't all live in progressive cities. If I go to Houston for the day, I feel a lot less noticeable with a bag over my shoulder. But in my small city, it is a lot more obvious when I walk into a restaurant with a nurse. It doesnt help that I have pretty serious case of vitiligo, so people are going to look no matter what.

Anyway, point is, a lot of this depends on where you live. It is not likely for you to understand if you are in a big metroplex area like Houston, Seattle, San Fran, Austin, etc. Go shopping in the city of Beaumont to change your perspective.

That sounds correct, but you may have to be more introspective:
1. You have an iPad
2. You have vitiligo

Either of those things are likely to get you noticed in a small town versus a city. Not to be blunt, but many people with vitiligo have image issues. I would even though it is totally outside my control and is a serious skin condition.

You didn't mention the possibility a purse could be comfortable, but you mentioned that your wife would be upset. This goes with the idea that you care more about what people think than anything else. You don't have to live in a progressive city to recognize that your self-worth is greater than how you look and what you carry.

We don't all live in small towns, so these threads pigeonholing the rest of man kind with fashion styles for the boonies are really, really ridiculous.

I think you are still missing the point. I don't care because I DO carry mine around regardless of what people think. It does get me noticed. I am happy with my bag, although I am always looking for something better, more suitable for different venues.

When I posted this thread, I just added the "MANLY" thing to be catchy. Really, I want a good bag. And, picking a good bag, whether it is tennis, gun shooting, photography, tools, or a bag for a computer (all things I have need bags for this week).

Image is important...as is function. Take picking a camera bag...which is really tough, and depends on the destination. I just SOLD a backpack camera bag because it no longer suits my style of hiking to a destination and shooting. I tend to shoot along the way so the backpack was not very useful to me. But, even with my current bags, I have different bags for different types of shooting. For weddings, I roll all the gear in a suitcase, and use a belt system with bags that hang around my waste. But, it is completely different if I am going hiking and landscape photography.

Anyway, the point is that picking a computer bag (or specifically iPad), is just as complicated. Some here on this thread prefer to have their pad with more of everything else, and they don't mind the flap over. That would drive me nuts. But, that is what this thread is about, finding the right bag for each person's tastes. Not throwing insults around about self-worth. I have plenty of that, and carry a shoulder bag irregardless of the size of city. This thread is plenty useful!
