I LOL'ed at the title of this thread. Are people really that anxious or maybe I'm just too ~European~. Anyway, I keep my iPad in a black/tan M-Edge Trip Jacket (which looks like a large notebook) which in turn goes into either my Fjallraven backpack or my Mulberry murse, neither of which have dedicated iPad/Laptop compartments. No issues as far as I can tell--the iPad is a pretty sturdy device. Unlike my laptop, I can comfortably carry my precious with me everywhere and I am loving it!

Accessorizing properly is the key to remaining manly while carrying the ipad in public.

I always have my Glock 19 in a fashionable leather holster on my right hip. In Ohio, you can "open carry" legally. An ipad in a soft leather carrying case is manned-up when paired with an exposed firearm.

Seriously!

Love this one. Need to get matching holster for my Beretta! :)

Cheers,

[Edit: I have since started a spreadsheet for Cases, Sleeves and Bags...found here: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Av1TgV270uIadFd5VWh3MGR5bnV2TDFxRWFnV2p5eHc&hl=en

Anybody can edit...feel free to list your bags there for the benefit of everybody. Thanks!]

Ok guys. I am on a search for the ideal carry bag. But this is more than a search for the case...it is an image issue.

How are you carrying your case and avoiding looking too Geekish, girly, or whatever term may apply?

In other words, what is the best way to carry the iPad discreetly.

Currently I am using a 9x12 neoprene case that is a little too large. It was for an 11" netbook...but in a lot of regards, it is pretty nice. It has two front facing pockets that are quite large as each one that opens extends all the way across to the other side such that they are over lapping. I have my pad in a Incase Grip that is close fitting and not too much bigger than the iPad...but it does eliminate several options. I like the freedom of having the iPad as slim as possible for most uses, well protected, and it slips right into it's bag when it is time to travel.

But, the neoprene case is a little too big. So, I am trying to find a smaller one...like for a 10" netbook. I am also trying to find one that has a shoulder strap as an option.

I kind of like this one so far:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180515893450&_trksid=p2759.l1259

But I don't like how it opens ALL the way. My current one only opens along the top and then 2/3 along the sides. If I am sliding the iPad in and out a bunch, it is easy to do.

So, what do you think...would you wear this bag out into public? I mean to places like grocery shopping, lowes, to the work out gym (and not stuffed in the workout bag).

Ladies...I don't mean to exclude you...you have it good...I have always envied you all when it comes to tech gear. From the days of the Newton that BARELY fit in an overside slacks pocket...to now with the iPad. I would be so easy to get a bigger purse...and what an awesome setup that would be.

Thanks for any feedback!
Well I guess im geeky cause I have a Google Laptop bag that has a shoulder strap. But hey check this http://stmbags.com/catalog/ipad-bags/

...replace the pen and paper (which I thought it could)....:D

That is too bad. I am returning to staff in-service (teacher) and the iPad, especially, 3G, has been awesome. But I attended a conference over the summer...as well as carrying the iPad every where i go, including the work out gym where i have actually been reading a novel for the first time in 20+ years, and the iPad has been awesome in every regard.

But for the in-service for the past few days, i have been unusually pleased with the ipad. I have always carried my laptop previously, but admin is kind of funny about you pulling out your laptop...even if you are working on stuff related to the in-service. They would prefer people to use pad and paper.

But the ipad was MUCH more desecrate, quieter, and easier to get up and move about from place to place. Tomorrow, I am sure they will have us breaking up into small groups, playing games, etc. It has been difficult int the past to be productive with a laptop when they keep us moving around from place to place, but the iPad has been perfect.

One of the reasons I have especially liked the iPad for meetings, besides the low profile nature, is because of audionote. I start the recorder going, and when I hit return, it makes a line entry with a time stamp. When the lecture is over, I can go back, and when you tap on a line, it puts you back in that exact spot of the recording.

Pretty cool if you ask me. And then of course there is access to email, internet...and the words for friends game going on with others.

Cheers!

Now I being female am looking for an ipad bag that does look like a purse. :D

I just did some searching online and Found this carrying bag. Yes it costs more then most but nothing says MANLY more then Raw Hide :D

Saddleback bags are amazing!! I use their large briefcase as an everyday work bag, weekend getaway bag, beach bag, you name it. It has weight to it, but it's worth it because of the durability. Plus it's ridiculous how often I get compliments on it.

iPad can easily fit inside or in the back sleeve

I carried one at the mall in Manila, Philippines the week that it was released and got hit up like CRAZY. People asking if it was the iPad. I even got a query from the security guard asking me if it was the new iPhone 4. LOL

I didn't. Would have to take a better photo if I did

I have a medium iPad satchel arriving this week in the dark brown. Their stuff is amazing and the quality is hard to match.

Hope you entered that great photo in their contest.

Bought this Targus bag, £20, from Carphone Warehouse (UK) the other day. It's actually a generic 10" netbook bag, but fits an iPad with Apple case *perfectly*. It's water resistant, the inside is padded, there's absolutely no movement whatsoever, zipped or unzipped - seriously, it's like it was designed for the iPad with Apple case.

There's also a zip pocket on the front, can't fit much in it though. This suits me as I've been after a bag that's as small as possible purely for the iPad for a while. Might look a bit campy if you hold it round the front of the body, but I have the strap diagonally across my shoulder, bag round the back.

Edit: Can be found here for £14.32, dunno how reliable that site is though, never used it, nor am I in anyway endorsing it;

Lol, there's even a video of it here;

I'll bet it is made for the iPad, but if they use the iPad name, maybe they have to pay apple or something.

So, what is the inside like? You mention soft, but what is the material?

Is the pocket big enough for a cell phone, wallet, jump drive, camera connection kit and small card reader?

Anybody find it in the US? Actually, I think I have seen this at best buy and the puffiness made it to bulky...AND it was really tight with the belkin grip. Or maybe it is not the same because the tarsus one lie this said iPad, was kind of expensive and like I said, VERY tight as in hard to get it in and out. So maybe this 10.2" is just right. I just don't remember the pocket.

Yep, here it is...
Targus - Crave Slipcase for Apple® iPad™ - Black

Model:*TSS177US | SKU:*9889023

I wonder how much bigger the net book case is? The iPad one is 10.6/8.5. But it was too tight...and too puffy. The inside was definitely soft...a real asset...but I took mine back because it definitely was too tight...and the pocket was sideways.

That video I linked shows what the innards look like. The zip pocket could fit some of the things you suggest but I suspect it'd struggle with all of them.

"Carrying your iPad in public...a MANLY thread!" - even the title suggests that it's not very masculine to carry an iPad. Yes, it's feminine and yes, if a man carries a man-bag, many people think that they are homosexual. So what?!

Carry your large iPod Touch with pride - you or your parents worked for it hard (I hope) and just because you look like a girl, it doesn't mean that you are one.

No, you are a man. A MAN WITH AN IPAD!!!

(No, that doesn't really work, you still look gay. Personally, I don't mind. If you do, you should sort it out, because life will be so much easier after that.)

WOW!

You offended everyone and made yourself look like an uneducated idiot all in one post. CONGRATS!!!
