We need more, better and bigger cameras in the iPhone....said no one.

Actually the camera it is probably the most used module in smartphones, so much that it killed the market for portable digital cameras; for most people it’s the only camera they have and they take shots of family events, with partners, with children and so on, and probably care that they can shot great ones; smartphones are all about 3 things: camera, battery and connection speed, probably in this order. You may not be interested in something but pretending your needs are universal while it is exactly the opposite doesn’t help at all.

Stupid question but isn't all this extra weight in one corner going to make it uncomfortable to hold? All the weight would be pushed towards one corner and unevenly spread across the back of the device?
They'll probably fill the rest of the phone with magnets for their new extra energy-inefficient wireless charging where people won't be able to use their phones because they're trying to charge their airpods on top of them or something.

What remains is enthusiast-type camera gear -- a market that camera phones cannot touch unless they figure out how to somehow defy physics.
This is what they are doing with computational photography. But the more you have to "dream up" with AI, the less real it becomes. I think the larger components are a good sign, at least in the larger devices.

I wonder if this is eventually the approach they'll take on MacBooks. They can't/won't make the lid much thicker, and apparently also don't want to do a camera bump. That leaves multiple adjacent lenses as one of the few remaining options.
There's still a lot of bezel to play with that a linear array could occupy. Even if they slim it down.

I said before: each year the camera bump will grow larger, gradually covering more of the back of the phone.

In a couple years, the camera bump will cover the entire rear of the phone- thus making the phone slightly thicker and in reality have no camera bump at all- just like everyone wants.

As a photographer, if true, this makes me happy. Bigger better lenses & sensors will definitely get me to upgrade my iPhone 11 pro max.
Absolutely. I think they need to improve a lot in order to compete with Android phone cameras.
If they do that (and only if they do), iPhone 13 will be mine.

Not a fan of making the camera and the bump even bigger. If I want a great camera I will buy a camera.

That the phone wobbles when put on a flat surface is the only blemish of an otherwise beautiful design.

That's a huge bump! With such large island, I wonder if it's better to just center it instead of keeping it in the corner. Center and a wider and skinnier island might look better.

I think the weight of the modules are not as significant compared to the weight of the stainless steel body and battery, so it probably won't be top heavy.

Everytime I think they certainly can't make the camera bump uglier, they just do it. I would buy an iPhone with no camera at all.

They need a 5x or 10x optical zoom lens like the Note 20 Ultra and S21 Ultra have. I've used it many times and it's much more useful than the 2x. I have the Samsung and chose a 12 mini as a second phone because I didn't want the 2x zoom offered by the iPhones.

The current iPhone models are already uncomfortable to hold. This is only going to increase the overall weight, so not good progress in my opinion. I miss the old iPhone 7 days — still the best iPhone ever made.

for your hobby i hope, i would be annoyed that i hire a photographer and all he use is his iphone 😂
Most photographers will have more than one camera body, with the phone being 2nd or 3rd. Mobile photography has evolved. Larger pixels, faster apertures, vastly more computational power and good software.

As an example I would expect the ultra wide angle lens on the next iPhone to work just fine for real estate. The current one is surprisingly decent considering how wide it is.
