WOW, didn't Steve say no one would want a phone with a 4 inch display. And didn't all the blind followers agree? So if this indeed turns out to be a 4 inch display, or even just a bigger display, Apple would have become the followers they've always been. Will they offer anything truly new an innovative, or will it be the usual, and pawned off as new? I'm betting the latter. The other big question is, do you compare the iPhone 5 to the SGSll or to the SGSll and Nexus Prime that are just around the corner?

Keeping a small 3.5" display is hardly innovative.

From that design doc. By manufacturers, I meant hardware manufacturers, btw.

I dunno. I'm not doubting that this could be true. I find it odd, though, that apple move away from the round volume buttons and then in their new iOS5, make all the toggle switches round to mimic the volume buttons from the ip4. Doesn't seem that consistent in terms of design if that truly is what the ip5 looks like. But, the iPad doesn't have them...so anything is possible I guess.

I agree, with you on the volume buttons going back to toggle, thats what is confusing, Apple never go backwards with a design, but it would fall in line with the iPod, still can't get my head around that bit of design.

Some time ago Apple wanted these buttons integrated into camera functions.

Just like with the iPad, the Apple logo..

The 3G units don't use the Apple, they have a black section at the top with a the 3G antenna.

I would think the way they got around it is more like the iPhone 4, the antenna is around the outside edge. Be sure to hold it right!

Are you genius at Apple store?? lol :D:rolleyes:

Mate, you need to leave the personal insults behind and just entertain different points of view as a 'possibility'...

Enough.

He called you an Apple store Genius!!! Them's fightin' words!!!

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

I hope they do something more like the i4 style buttons. I really like the separate and round nature of the buttons- they are much easier to feel and use when the phone is in your pocket on (for example). I've always disliked the rocker style buttons on the iPod Touch.

This is yet another area where form is getting in the way of function.

They aren't doing the round style for the iPhone 5. Get used to the rocker.

-These cases have two large, symmetrical speakers on the bottom, like iPhones.

No, iPhone has always had only one speaker. The other one is a microphone.

The beautiful ("danish?) renders a few pages ago are starting to make sense to me. Alu/liquid metal backing, but the antenna frame on the outside. And holy Batman it would be beautiful!

Not really relevant, but the first photo actually was not on a Dutch but on a Danish carrier's site:

And the second one was supposed to be a promotional image found on a Japanese tech site.

However, on-topic: I really do agree with you that those renderings looked awesome and very Apple like and I hope with you the iPhone 5 will look just like that :)

Wow! I love those. Please Apple, release a Sprint iPhone 5 with a 4" screen that looks like these this October :)

This makes sense. All the tech blogs are reviewing the new U.S. Galaxy S2 this week, and giving it rave reviews, it is all over the geek websites. Engadget gave the Sprint Galaxy S2 a 9/10, the last phone to ever rate that high on Engadget was the iPhone4.

By allowing Case-Mate to leak just some simple pic's of mockups, look at the buzz it has created. And these are only for cases, not the actual phone, and the tech blogs are going bananas over it.

Big companies do this stuff on purpose.

The Galaxy S2 is the best smartphone you can buy right now, no fanboy comment, just the facts. But the iPhone5 will be a better device by a bit, not night and day better. And then if the rumors hold up, the Nexus-Prime will be the best device of them all, with an even better resolution than retina display, and running Android 4.0 "Ice Cream" the brand new next generation Android OS, with incredible battery life, and built in a high quality metal chassis, thinner than the current iPhone4.

At the end of the year there will be two killer phones out, each great in their own way
- Nexus-Prime
- iPhone5

Kudos'

Two great posts by Darthdingo, someone who really "gets it".

Apple is the master when it comes to marketing, and knows how to work the system very effectively. It's all good.

The Android platform has improved a great deal in recent times. I say this based on personal experience, having used many of them since the G1 was first released on T-Mobile years ago.

Choices are the backbone of free enterprise. Viva Le Choice!

I find the iOS & Android platforms, nicely compliment each other.

I will continue to use both concurrently for quite some time.

I like the look, it's Android inspired and not as feminine as the iPhone 4.

I'm sure that Apple has suggested or permitted Case Mate to "leak" these images.

Apple needed the shot in the arm to get some buzz going on the street about the new model.

With the Galaxy S II getting so much attention, I'm sure Steve was feeling left out.

Once again Apple has resorted to their tried and true manipulation of all parties involved to tilt the scales in their favor.

I'm thrilled since the sales will be so robust it will drive my Apple stock even higher.
That makes zero sense.

The beautiful ("danish?) renders a few pages ago are starting to make sense to me. Alu/liquid metal backing, but the antenna frame on the outside. And holy Batman it would be beautiful!

Yeah, that's what I thought and it could explain the mixed rumours, if people didn't see the back then it would look very similar to the iPhone 4 and that back in those renders could still be tapering

Kinda up in the air on the whole 5 design. I would welcome a larger screen and design like the droid, but not sure that is a reality. As for IOS 5 my Jailbroken 4 does much more than I could hope for. In fact Apple still years behind Cydia apps like TAlert, Lockinfo and much more. If the 5 is same size as the 4 will not be switching anytime soon. If the 5 is larger will consider switching, but only once untethered jailbreak out.

Why does everybody think this is the iPhone 5? The design and volume controls scream the iPod Touch! This is the next iPod Touch. Mark my words.

Keeping a small 3.5" display is hardly innovative.

I don't know how Apple can keep introducing a phone with a 3.5" display and keep from getting laughed off the stage. I was completely shocked when the iPhone 4 kept it (and everyone else went to 4 or 4.3"), but ok, it had 'retina'. Hard to know what to think if the iPhone 5 still keeps 3.5".

These look like those LaCie Rugged All Terrain Hard Drives...

Sorry if this was mentioned but I wonder if the mute switched was moved because you can use the volume keys to take pictures?

a larger screen is a given, but how long will it take apple to bring LTE to the masses? if iphone 5 does not have a 4.3" screen, i will wait for the samsung nexus prime in november. besides, i'm a tech geek and want to play with a new os :)

Ok, it's pretty much clear that iPhone 5 will look just like iPad 2 (only smaller obviously).
