With rumours pointing both ways (i.e. redesigned not redesigned) I loved the picture Mac 9to5 had on their site the other day. It had been on a Dutch carriers site briefly. iPhone 4 sides but redesigned back, if (big if) this was the case then no wonder there are mixed rumours

and then the other side from tech vulture the back here is curved as well

To me these look more Apple than anything else I've seen but again anyones guess

Sweet Jesus I hope it looks very similar to that.

I'm calling this a marketing gimmick.

This is how you keep your brand relevant, prior to a major product launch. Post renders of a product that may or may not exist. Everyone thats excited about iPhone 5 is curious dying for info, takes a look, gets exposed to your name and product lineup. Case manufacture hopes you then remember them when iPhone final does launch. I promise you they posted and probably seeded various blogs with fake "hey guys have you seen this over at..." messages.

Whatever the iPhone 5 winds up to be, you have to give Apple credit for doing a good job really tightening up security. It's still up in the air completly as to the iPhone 5 design with only probably 2 weeks before the announcement.

Tony

Yep, the iPhone 4 debacle was probably quite the shake up for them. The rumors (and contradictions) of late seem indicative of a ramped-up security effort on Apple's part.

Possibly but I don't think Case-Mate needs to keep their brand relevant.
They are quit successful.

Its interesting to note that aside from the shape lining up the new speaker position lines up as well. There are a lot of consistencies between designs / rumors.

Does anyone know what that empty space below the mute switch is? I know the volume is on the other side.

I find it funny that when you try to save one of the images its file name is: "barelytherelineup.jpg".

Relevant was a poor word to use. This kind of marketing keeps them at the head of the table, keeps them successful by reminding you who is clearly an industry leader. Who else but Case Mate would have insider information right?

; )

would it be totally out of line to say that all these iphone 5 design rumors could actually be the new ipod touch? i mean, they look EXACTLY like the current ipod touch models, with the exception of being slightly bigger. wouldn't this design for an iphone 5 be a step backwards?

Unlikely, unless the new iPod Touches are redesigned to totally resemble iPhones (which is possible).

-Touches have headphone jacks on the bottom, but these cases have jacks on top
-These cases have two large, symmetrical speakers on the bottom, like iPhones. iPod Touches, I believe, have one tiny speaker.

Having said that, I can see the new iPhone resembling the iPod Touch and iPad 2 in design language with their tapered (yet mostly flat) backs. It would offer the comfort of the rounded designs and the flatness of the iPhone 4.

My biggest question is, what material will the back be made of? I've personally never had a problem with the glass back, but some people do not like it. I wonder if they will switch back to metal, or perhaps used curved glass? Plastic seems the least likely.

C'mon MR -- Case Mate isn't working off leaked Chinese documents. Their stuff is top-shelf, sold at the Apple Store itself. I'd bet significant sums of money that they have access to all details of the iP5 right now from Apple (possibly an empty shell or 3 in addition to the specs) to ensure a robust ecosystem of iP5 products at or near launch.

This is the real deal, IMO.

If this was a genuine leak, they won't be selling from the Apple store for long.

True. And on the other side of the coin. Since Case-Mate is so well known and reputable, to put out info like they did and not have it happen would be a PR disaster for them.;)

I believed AIP5 would be a redesign before everyone else saw the rumors and "evidence" for it. This just might make me a bit hipster :)

Seriously though, really excited about it now. Especially the "wireless charging" bit... I wonder how or if the iPhone 5 have it.

I was also thinking, releasing two iPhones makes a lot of sense. iPhone 4S with upgraded internals and an iPhone 5 allows for people to choose between two different designs. One design, which has been the most popular iPhone design ever and quite possibly the most popular smartphone design ever, will be available for those who like that industrial design and still want the dual core processor, better camera, etc. And the iPhone 5 design is for those who want something new, or for people who don't like the iPhone 4 design (like myself).

Also on a side note, anyone else think it might be a bit harder to press the "camera shutter" button with that design, now that it'll sort of be on the taper end of the back? The iPod touch buttons aren't easy to press as the iPhone buttons, that's for sure.

NO ONE has any evidence of ANYTHING. BUT the most legitimate rumor to date is these Case-Mate cases. Which ironically points to a COMPLETELY redesigned iPhone. Even without these cases, I have been 100% certain that the iPhone 5 will be a completely revamped, game changer. Guess will just have to wait and see who's correct. But at THIS point the rumor scales are starting to tip in favor of a "significant" redesign.

I think the most legitimate rumor to date is Apple's own iPhone icon in the photostream. But this case design rumor definitely adds to the legitimacy of the new design.

This is making sense now..

My new guess....

The iPhone 4s will be the subsidized contract phone on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. Upgraded specs for the top models. A4/8gb model for the low end to replace the 3GS, and for the prepaid market.

The mysterious iPhone "5" will be the new iPod. Either wi-fi only, or with 3G. Just like the iPad. Data plans optional.

The iPod Nano will be renamed something else, and will be cheaper. The iPod Shuffle will die.
