Hmm. Scratching it? I've been using a bumper on my 4.. I never noticed any scratches. The bumper is made of plastic/acrylic. Only the buttons are metal and they aren't touching the antenna. So how would it scratch??

Not the bumper itself per say, but a lot of people say that dust/debris gets in between the bumper and the antenna band and starts scratching it :(

Yea it may look new but doesn't always act new. AT&T made me get a refurb back in march for their own horrible reception issues and I've been plauged with issues that I never had on my original 4.

You have to differentiate between carrier refurbs and Apple refurbs, the former being not up to the normal Apple standard of refurbishment. That being said, even Apple refurbs are not what they once were in all cases and I was given a clear refurbished phone (5k) once which had a dead microphone from the start (I made a call in the Apple store). I was then given a 61 prefix phone which may or may not have been refurbished (Apple have some new phones as replacements when they run out of refurbished phones on a particular day) and that has been the first essentially perfect phone I have had (the first one had proximity sensor problems).

If you don't drop your phone, a case is pointless.

<snip>

Not quite. If one wants to be free of scratches on the back you have to be careful as to where you lay your phone down. On my desk in my study my phone lies on a thick microfiber cloth and the rest of the time it is in my pocket or in my hand. As they say with yachts, my phone is in Bristol condition.

Thanx For The Inf. That One Look Super Cool

Aluminum bumpers have a *loonnngg* and storied history regarding signal attenuation if you look in the Accessories sub-forum. Choose your aluminum bumper very carefully, especially if you happen to travel into any marginal signal areas with your phone.

SENA leather pouch

I say use a pouch for the phone, protection and great looks! Search for sena leather pouch for iPhone 4/s

The Sena pouch is very attractive and I nearly bought one. The problem I found is that, at least with myself, I am far more likely to drop my phone (which I have not yet) when I take the pouch out of my pocket and then take the phone out of the pouch. This is as opposed to simply taking the phone out of my pocket where, by the time the phone is sliding out of my pocket, I already have a firm grip on it.

I'll be using this one

my iPhone 4 is naked, with the white you see no fingerprints which is a big factor in using a case or not

if i had a white iphone, i'd definitely want to cover it up with a case.

but since i'm a guy and ordered a black one, no need for a case.

I am singing Adele's Trollin' in the Deep song right now.

The best case I've ever had that will not scratch any part of your phone is the simple full back/sides(even wraps around the front of the screen a little bit without blocking the screen of course) rubber case you get from the kiosk in the mall. Seriously $15 and it's perfect. I accidentally through my iPhone 3G on the ground as I was pulling the phone away from my face and it hit on the concrete and slid on it's back. Not one dent/scratch. I was amazed and have been using that style case for 3 years now. Got one for my iPhone 4 will get another for 4S.

If you aren't a klutz but still paranoid about leaving the phone on a surface, just get the nicest bumper you can plus a nice screen protector (power support seems to have the majority vote). The Apple bumper looks pretty damn good in my opinion, it'll hardly help with drops (even though mine has been dropped twice from about 2 to 3 feet and the bumper saved it) but it gives some peace of mind.

I've never put a case on my iPhone 4, and I have literally not a single stretch on it. There are two microscopic little dots on the back, but that's REALLY hard to notice, even in direct light. I hate how cases make my phone look so much fatter, and they take away from Apple's beautiful glass design. No case will ever feel as nice as the phone itself. Don't punish yourself with a case OP. They all pretty much suck. Unless you're super clumsy, of course.

I've always used a case as i'm always worried about the back.

That said i used a case for my 4 and after a while it wrecked the top of the phone and right the sides...so i really need to choose the right case.

maybe a griffin one makes more sense.

i used incase snap case.
