Cases kill the experience

Since my main experience with the phone is the touchscreen I'd have to say no... cases don't "kill" it.

Some cases actually enhance the look (not to mention protection) of the phone IMO, while others cases are completely clear or so thin you can't even tell they are there.

I use Apple's silicone case for two reasons: camera hump and better grip.
The case does in fact ruin the experience because the swipe left gesture is less handy since the case stops the finger from running over the curved edge.
I used my iPhone 5 without a case and I'd be happy to run my next phone naked, but only if they improve the design

I completely agree with him....look at this POS....what were they thinking?!?

2015 has seen some of the worse Apple designs ever.

Dropping your $1K iPhone will "kill the experience".

No way I would not have even a slim case on my iPhone to improve my grip.

I am not so "vain" that I need to carry a naked iphone for all to see.

But choice is good and each can do as they wish. Just don't post a picture of your dropped phone, complaining about Apple's build quality. :p

A slim case and tempered glass screen protector is really all you need. I find some cases feel better than the phone itself. I use a cheap magpul case, and I love it.

You really don't need a screen protector at all though.

Had an Apple leather case on my 6s+. I was really not happy with the size of the phone. I removed the case after a couple of months and it was like I had a new phone. We tend to kill Jonny Ive, but thin is very good. I did order a skin for the back, which, I believe, will not diminish the nice tactile feel of the phone.

I did the same - I bought 4 Apple cases (one leather, three silicone) sent two back, used one for a while. Found the little ripple where the silicone meets on the sides annoying. Not to mention it makes the phone over TWICE as thick. Sure it was gripper but it was huge in my pocket, I hated the way the cover wrapped around the screen totally ruining the experience of the curved edges which you couldn't feel anymore. Plus it added weigh to a phone I already find too big and heavy (pick up an iPhone 5s and be amazed by how light it is!)

It does'nt if you use a barely there ultra thin clear case.

Apart from the bit where the case ends and the phone starts is always going to have a horrible edge that you can feel no matter how thin it is.

A very very well applied skin is the only way to defeat that - and getting them very well applied is no easy task.

I liked the leather Vaja case I used previously on the 6 plus, albeit a good grip on the phone but decided to try the super thin gel case on the S plus. Equally does the trick so far.....

Will always always always use a case. I don't give a damn about covering it up, as I would rather a covered up phone than a cracked one. Having cracked two iPads and an iPod Touch, cases are super important. I also like my case as it is my wallet + it lets me have a blue phone :)

If you like scratched displays then no you don't.

I on the other hand find scratched screens super annoying and I also like the added antiglare effect, makes reading my iPhone in the sun much better.

My post has turned into a pro case discussion. Ha!

I'm mainly in agreement here. My last two iPhones I've used naked. That said, I just bought the 6s 128 outright (keeping it until iPhone 8 or later), and I decided to get the leather case.

I. Love. It.

If they make the phone easier to grip, then I'll consider ditching the case. Until then, I'll do without the "emotional context" of the phone.

A quote from the piece on Apple from 60 minutes:

Ive explained that zeroing in on a product's "emotional context" is a big part of Apple's development process—investing lots of time experimenting with materials, surfaces, textures, colors, shapes, to arrive at the right tactile experience. He showed the 10 prototypes for the iPhone 6 and 6s that had been made with their in-house machining tools, before landing on the two sizes that "felt right."

Seems a shame that we put cases on our iPhones when all this time is spent to make them feel right huh?

We kill them with plastic and blocky rubber cases.

Disagree with that last statement. The cases are to prevent that.

I keep mine in a straight black Incipio case. I do this mostly because I like an all black phone better than the space gray I'm stuck with. It also adds a bit of weight and bulk which I like.
Ditto, ditto. I also keep a $20 bill and my driver's license tucked into the Incipio case, since I'm less likely to forget my phone than my wallet.

I dropped my no case $1k 6+ in September. Cracked the screen. The repair cost for the screen was $147 or so, but Apple replaced the entire phone for that cost because they had issues that day.

Sure, I didn't want to pay $150, but it was the first and only time in three years I've dropped a naked iPhone and damaged the screen.

My 6s+ still does not have a case.

Merry Christmas.

Topics for MacRumors survival (or topics not to post about if you don't want controversy)! ;)

1. Cases.
2. Color choice
3. Capacity
4. Numbered or 'S' upgrade path (which is better)
5. Jailbreaking
6. Applecare+ (worth the value or not)

Of the few I can easily think about. Each topic above, guaranteed to generate conversation because people stand on one side or the other and will defend their choice passionately.

:D

Phone manufacturers first need to up their game and make these things more durable.

The technology surely is available , who knows, they probably earning too much out of replacements etc.

For me its more about knowing your phone is 100% and you can take the case off anytime and use it without when you want to. Its that knowing your phone is in perfect condition that I put on a case. I never drop my phone but I would rather have a case on and have a 100% phone down 10 months than to have subtle scratches and small dings
