I would say that the ceramic is the nicest watch they have made yet but $1300~ for a watch that comes with a $30 sports band is nuts. They should have made a ceramic link or included one of the links of your choice. I think the black link would look amazing with the ceramic but I am not going to buy the ceramic and then pay another 400 for the link. So I am just getting the black SS with link.

1300 for a watch that comes with a 30 dollar band

The band shown on the ceramic model appears to have a matching ceramic pin, like the gold editions had gold pins in their sports bands. So that $30 band is likely more expensive than $30. (Not arguing against you, just haven't seen anyone else mention it.)

I pre-ordered the ceramic! I'll post photos later of color combos when I receive it on the 16th. I have almost all the official Apple bands.
You got a Sept 16 ship date? I ordered as fast as I could and the order said Sept 16, but then the confirmation email changed to Sept.26-28.

I agree. I want the ceramic over the black SS link I'm buying this go around (upgrading from sport) but I can't spend 1300 for a watch that comes with a 30 dollar band. I didn't get the black SS link first gen because well...it was a first gen. This gen seems much more up to the price tag of a nice watch since you can now bring it in the water and treat it a little more aggressive.

There's nothing wrong with a high quality, functional rubber band on an expensive watch. You see that all the time with mechanicals. This watch costs over $36,000:

36k for a watch is nuts

It's all about perspective. To some people, $299 for a watch is nuts. On the other hand, the watch Rafa Nadal plays tennis with costs $750,000!

My point is simply that rubber bands are common on nice watches. Even the Ikepods that the Apple Watch is based on cost several thousands with a rubber strap.

point taken. In this case with apple though I would have killed for either a ceramic link or a black link included instead of a sport. To go in line with your point, if it is to be a rubber band I wish they would have made a customer designed one fit for the "Edition" branding. Just my opinion though of course.

A ceramic bracelet would have been a relative fortune compared to the watch. Double the cost, at least. The gold "editions" at least had a rubber and leather option, though, so maybe they could have gone that route.

The funny thing is, with my steel model, I have the link bracelet and other leather straps...and I almost always wear it on the rubber. The simple rubber strap (essentially from Ikepod) is one of the best things about the design.

why not wear the link more often? not comfortable for you or just use it for dressing up or what?

The bracelet is nice and compares in fit to bracelets on my Rolex and Omega watches, but the rubber is just that much more comfortable and light. Plus, as I alluded to above, rubber straps have become acceptable for wear in just about any scenario (and I'm not a particularly dressy guy.)

I have a half dozen or so strap options...but I usually come back to the simple rubber. lol

I currently have the black sport and I switch between the red sports strap and the moko metal link band I have. I have about 5 different leather bands that rarely get touched (maybe twice i the last year) and 4 other sport bands (green, white, black, light blue i think are the ones i have) which get rotated with the red from time to time, especially the white. I also have a few $hitty bands that I got through the click kickstarter. The bands are simply terrible and the initial adaptors were created backwards which was the worst thing ever since they left gaps, edges and tended to slide out. I got the replacement adaptors literally around a year later but when they sent my link bracelet originally they sent the ss one instead of the black ss one so of course it didn't match and I have given up on even using the click items and almost just want to through them away.

Anyway I got a little off track. I mainly wear my moko link (not the apple look alike, one of the originals they but out that uses like three links across) and have been scouring the net looking for a good knockoff of the real link that was 1:1 and didn't snap under a moderate amount of pressure. So when the new watch released I had to get my link and I just hope it is comfortable enough to wear months on end until I remember to rotate bands.

The link bracelet is about as good as it gets in the world of watch bracelets. I did get a good wrist pinch once when helping a friend move a piece of furniture, but I think that would have happened with any bracelet.

Still, now that we live in a world where people wear rubber fitness trackers with suits, I'm fine with the rubber, as it's more comfortable and more easily adjustable. I may even consider selling the link while it still has some value.

The cool thing about the Apple Watch is even though you get a rubber strap, you can use a to of other bands with it.

This is a great option! I had the black leather loop with SS series 1 and I loved it. The build quality here is questionable, but - for that price - it's worth a shot!

Still debating between Edition & Hermes...

This band would match the white ceramic tones: https://www.amazon.com/top4cus-Adjustable-Magnetic-Replacement-Bracelet/dp/B01DKKZSL2/ref=sr_1_42?srs=14330031011

Comes in both 38mm and 42mm. Just not sure about the manufacturing quality as the reviews are mixed...

Not sure why Apple does not make (yet, maybe) this kind of bands for such a nice watch.

I was salivating for the ceramic, but in the end, I couldn't justify the $700 price increase over the SS model.

I was ready to pay the extra but i needed a ceramic or SS black link sold with it. So i got the 42mm black SS with link instead to replace my easily scratched but well worth the money/time sport edition.

Damn, the white leather loop would have been a great option to go with the white ceramic. Apple sold one for a while too!

I went the opposite way. I bought mine with a link bracelet and some other leather straps...and I ended up getting a black rubber strap and that's practically all I wear. lol

Right, I was thinking almost the same thing, except about a classic buckle instead of the loop. The shiny steel hardware would look pretty good with the ceramic body, too.

Do you guys think some Apple stores will have some stock of this model on launch day? I didn't pre-order in time for a launch delivery but am hoping I have a shot at getting one if I go in early on launch day. Maybe if I check for personal pickup at midnight on the 16th?

That's a good one too! I really wonder how it'll look with the steel lug/hardware within the white casing of the watch.

They still sell the white classic buckle, but online it shows unavailable. Hmm.
