But the large icon drag to desktop and put in the back-up folder is still the .app file not an icns file. Question: how do I attain a copy of the xxx.icns file of the app? Thanks
Right click on app. Show contents. Resources folder.

I know this is slightly off topic, But does anyone know how to change the login screen background image and the notification center background. I've managed to change the dashboard grid background and the apple logo on the login screen, but have no idea how to change the others. I've tried the lion technique of replacing the relevant images which also worked in ML, but cannot get it to work under mavericks. If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
how did you manage to change the trash icons?

So for anyone who stumbles across this thread, changing system icons is not particularly difficult, although slightly time consuming. Thanks to Lovememac for pointing out the location.
To change system icons all you need to do is navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources. The icons are in .icns format. Simply replace the icon with your icon using the same name.
It would probably be smart to copy the default icons somewhere first. Once you copy them restart your machine (log out and in didn't seem to be enough for me) and you have new icons.
BTW, this is also where the sidebar icons are located if you want to get some color back on your Mac.
I followed both these instructions and the ones above that say to go to system/library/coreservices/dock.app/contents/resources and change the png files. I restarted, I killed the dock. No avail. What am I doing wrong?
i just tested LiteIcon by freemacsoft and it worked for changing all the folders including the generic folder . LiteIcon is a free app , many of the features of LiteIcon does not work but the changing of folders does . You will have to restart you computer for the changes to show .
Just thought i would let you guys know.![]()
Hey guys,
Anyone has an idea where I can find some system icons, such as all Devices (External, Internal, USB, CD-R, CD-RW, BD, BD-R, etc) I can't find them on CoreTypes.bundle (system/library/coreservices/) under mavericks, no idea where they moved them. Those are the only ones left to change and its driving me insane.
Thanks in advance.
P.S: God I wish IconFactory would update CandyBar for 10.9, such a pain to manually change them all. But already got a response in twitter that they won't, stupid apple and their sandboxing policy. Bah.
Just change them manually.
1, Select app
2, Get info
3, Drag new icon over.
I only used Candybar to change the Finder icon.
joined just to ask THIS: how did you build that outstanding clock?

Wow, I wanna change that apple logo too !
How did u do that ? What's the path ?
Thanks !
External,Internal and USB are easy. Just right click on icon, get info and drag the new icon onto top left hand icon in the info pane. Nit sure about the rest but i'll have a look around and get back to you.
How do you put spaces on the dock to separate applications?Liteicon also does work with Mavericks I tried it.
Use the terminal command line found here http://css-tricks.com/snippets/html/add-spaces-to-dock-in-os-x/. Once generated they will be on the right hand side of the dock, just drag them into place.
To change the Apple logo on the login screen Navigate to the path below
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/LoginUIKit.framework
Then click on frameworks folder, click on LoginUICore.framework to open it, click resources and replace the 4 apple png images, Give the replacement images the same file name as the originals and backup the originals before changing anything in case something goes wrong.
It works, but at very bottom where are sleep, shut down.. buttons I have a grey line. Is it supposed to be like that or my image size is bad or.. ?
Hi, what kind image have you used. If the image has a background, remove it with the instant alpha feature in preview. Could you possibly post a picture of your login screen showing the grey one you mentioned.
