I find it hard to believe that the price of the display needs to go up to $5K just to accommodate those features. If that's true, then a 27" iMac with mini-LED/Pro Motion is going to have to cost over $6K. Is the difference between the 16" MBP and a 27" display really a few thousand?

When the M1 Pro/Max MBP was first rumored to have MiniLED and ProMotion, there were some assumptions it would start at $4K or even $5K, but instead the starting price was much the same as previous MBPs.

Well, if you find one, let me know.

Literally not the point of my post, but OK.

It seems that everyone on mac rumors wants a 5,000USD monitor for under 1,000USD and well, you're just not going to get that for a while when the tech comes down in price. But of course, by then the goal posts will have moved on and everyone will still be wanting that uber monitor for walmart prices. Especially from Apple, of all companies...

I don't expect it for "Walmart prices". But it seems that if the 32" XDR display costs $5000-6000, then it could be possible to create a mini-LED monitor 27" for less than that. $2500-3000 sounds better (making a Mac Studio combo around $5000-6000, half the price of a Mac Pro with XDR display).

While I want this rumor to be true in the worst way, I'm thinking its not accurate. LG Ultrafine is in-stock & still on sale - and available for pick up at most US stores.

27" is awful close to 24". Considering the most popular sizes of display on the market are 30-34", I just don't see why they'd choose 27 as their large imac size again (and derivative standalone display). What kind of studio wants small displays? Doesn't make a ton of sense.

After using 38" wide curved LG and 30" Apple Cinema displays, it feels like squinting to look at a 27" imac. I think the norm has moved on.
That's like saying the 12 inch MacBook was "awfully close" to the 15 inch MacBook Pro because it was three inches. Dude, 24 to 27? Big deal. Add three inches to your height---big deal. Add three inches to other places--big deal (pun intended).

Not $5000, but a quick spot-check of 27-32" 4K MiniLED monitors showed MSRPs and ASPs in the $2000-3000 range. All of them were aimed at high-end gaming (so up to 240Hz refresh) or HDR photo/video work so that probably explains why they are so bloody expensive.

Might have more to do with the contract agreements between Apple and LG (e.g. Apple doesn't get to pull the item off their shelves unless LG has a stock issue) than a sign of an upcoming competitor/replacement.

So now Gurman is saying this display could have an A-series SoC... o_O

So help me if this is that 7K monitor that leaked last week with a mid-five-figure price tag...

I'm betting the affordable 27" will be around $3k - $4k with the current still selling for $5k - $6k and a newer model up to $8k.

You don't drop Pro XDR technology into a 27" and knee cap your current Pro displays by taking a massive loss per unit.

The XDR 6K 32 inch monitor has fewer mini led zones than the ASUS 4K I posted, nor does it have promotion. What everyone else calls variable refresh rate. It has only resolution going for it, there are better monitors available. If Apple is going to make a monitor with your desired specs, it is going to cost mega bucks.

Doesn't the existing LG 5K and 4K also have a SoC? It was probably just cheaper to put an A13 in there to control the monitor than design a new one/use the Pro Display XDR one...right?

Please I just want something that's below $2000CAD after taxes ?

They still need to somehow justify the price. Somewhere between 1000-1500 is my bet.
Why should we buy apple branded if we can get 27” 5k LG branded for 1300?
LG: 1300... additional screen quality: +100-200, improved ALU housing and hinge +100-150, Apple Premium +100-200... final price 1600-1850 (+/-)... having a solid, beautiful, monitor that could have the lifespan of the TB display... "priceless"

Because 27" is exactly the right size for 5K. For 32", you need 6K. There is already a display for that.
Well, editing with 27” is a pain in the a** you have pixel density but you miss most of details and you have to constantly zoom in/out. And the actual 32” is not affordable even for professionals…apple can fit the deffinition they want, the imac 21” runs on 4,5k, so is economically viable to make a 32” 6k under 2k$

27" is too small for my needs (ooo-err) as a primary display. Plus, if the design turns out to be true, I'm getting really annoyed that a multi trillion dollar company still can't be bothered to put height adjustment into their displays, it's a basic ergonomic feature.

Are you saying 2560x1440 isn't enough screen estate for you?

As an iOS device - my real interest is whether this could adopt some kind of Universal Control / Sidecar hybrid that effectively makes the monitor wireless, especially considering pairing with a MacBook.

If you just want to run gameboy emulators yes it is enough, it depends what you use your monitor for…

I'm asking because that's kind of a lot of space already. Yes, 6K displays exists, but they're very pricey.

Probably cheaper off adding a second display.

The big deal for me with the potential "Studio Display" is getting any monitor that's not made by EVE with 4k+, 120+Hz, and a single-port USB-C connection for data and display. No other manufacturer is making something like this, so if Apple does I'll pre-order instantly.
