27" is awful close to 24". Considering the most popular sizes of display on the market are 30-34", I just don't see why they'd choose 27 as their large imac size again (and derivative standalone display). What kind of studio wants small displays? Doesn't make a ton of sense.

After using 38" wide curved LG and 30" Apple Cinema displays, it feels like squinting to look at a 27" imac. I think the norm has moved on.
exactly, also many will say "well buy two of 27" I reply, no thank you! have dual 27 monitors is awful, a pain.

If it's just a nicer looking LG 5K (aka, 5K iMac screen) though, I think it's a little too late for that. I know a lot of people wanted that, but it would essentially just be a 5 year old screen in a new, prettier housing.

And yet, five years later, it’s still the only true 5K monitor on the market (not counting those ultra wide monitors that are 5K pixels wide but have pathetic vertical resolutions, so they don’t work as retina screens, only as a replacement for two low-res monitors side-by-side).

My guess is this model isn't meant for larger studios would pay extra for a larger 30" display. Rather aimed at one and two person environments to pair with a M1 Mac mini or MacBook Air.

This 27" probably will still cost $1500 at best which in itself is not cheap.
That’s cheap relative to other monitors for productivity; The LG 5K is around that much today.

Is it? Are they going to go two full calendar years without a new lower end Mac?

I feel it might be two years between the M1 laptops and the M2 replacement, just because these two years have been about transitioning the entire line-up over to Apple silicon...

But I could see a yearly refresh to Mn-series SoC-powered Macs, with the Mn Pro/Max on an 18 month cycle, and maybe even the quad SoC Mac Pro on a two year cycle...?

You can buy 24inch iMac for 1299$ or 1199$ after some seasonal discounts so I cant see how charging 1000$ for 27inch monitor alone is reasonable. For 1000$ you can already buy quite a decent 5k monitor which probably would have the same panel that apple will be using. Hope this monitor has some hardware acceleration which may justify going for Apple product.
For productivity and ergonomics, it’s extremely easy to justify over a $1000. If you want a monitor for normal consumption use cases like browsing the Web, there‘a plenty of monitors by so many other than Apple to accommodate you at far cheaper prices

Seeing the fair amount of people that still use the original thunderbolt display, this upgrade may easily accomodate a decade of computing ... lest we move to fully AR workflows but this may seldom happen for most power users.

Not to mention that those displays are extremely hard to come by in europe.

They'll sell you a $1,000 stand if you really need to adjust the height.
99% of the professional Mac user market is not buying the Pro XDR display at $6,000. This display is for literally everyone.
No, most of the *average* tech consumers aren’t buying it. The Pro Display XDR is still among the top 32” displays ever with its 218 PPI and 1000 sustained nits.

Even displays with better MiniLed density and refresh rates like the PA32UCG (which I have in addition to a Pro Display XDR) doesn’t match its picture quality.

A 5K 27” isn’t for everyone either. It’s primarily for productive computer users that aligns with M1 Pro and M1 Max users that aren’t for everyone either.

Negligible by design with the TB4 capabilities using a Pro Display XDR with a M1 Max Macbook
I've run an M1 Mini and M1 Air on the XDR, both with 8GB RAM, and had zero issues.

I am using my XDR now with a 16 inch base model m1 Pro (16 GB RAM).

Again, zero issues.

Q: How much will it cost?
A: The LG UltraFine 5K with the exact same panel has an MSRP of $1300 so it won't be cheaper than that.
The A12 chip for smart tv and Universal Control will add a couple hundred to the LG dumb monitor, but will make it much more appealing.

Does anyone else make a monitor like that under 5k?

I find it hard to believe that the price of the display needs to go up to $5K just to accommodate those features. If that's true, then a 27" iMac with mini-LED/Pro Motion is going to have to cost over $6K. Is the difference between the 16" MBP and a 27" display really a few thousand?

When the M1 Pro/Max MBP was first rumored to have MiniLED and ProMotion, there were some assumptions it would start at $4K or even $5K, but instead the starting price was much the same as previous MBPs.
