Surely there's a difference between rumours and "crap I made up for my YouTube channel" though?

And how do you figure this is "crap he just made up"? Luke is clearly referring to an inside source, who gave him the info the renders are based on.

Either way, you have no basis to complain about this - the event is less than 24 hours away, we will find out either way.

There is a certain risk Luke took when putting out this content. If he's wrong, he knows he'll probably be mocked and crucified for it. I think he has a reliable source and took into considerations the implications of being wrong, and came to the conclusion that it was dependable enough to move forward with.

$1000 for a 27" 5K consumer monitor seems reasonable. Earlier rumors of a $2500 consumer monitor seemed ludicrous to me.
It looks like there might be three.
Studio display: 27 inch LCD, 5K, probably 60 Hz, somewhere between $999 and $1299.
Studio display plus or something like that: 27 inch mini LED display, 120hz, probably 6K or something and powered by Apple Silicon, most likely somewhere around $2500-$3000.
New updated Pro Display XDR: 32 inches, 7K, 120hz, probably around the same price as the current one $4999

I still use my Thunderbolt Display as a second monitor for my 16in M1 Pro. Still a great screen and the speakers aren't bad, it's just the ports are outdated. I hope the new monitor has speakers and ports as well.
I absolutely love my Thunderbolt so I'm also hoping the same. Not sure why Apple didn't include USB3 ports since the MBP's had them.

I hope they build a full Thunderbolt dock into the PSU box, so laptop users can connect a single cable and get power delivery to their computer, but have a full array of ports, including USB-C, USB-A, Ethernet, and maybe connectors for additional displays via HDMI or Thunderbolt.

this is an awkward time to release a monitor. QD-OLED panels are shortly coming out at great prices and the technology rivals mini-LED. Better in some ways, worse in a few. Better response rates, better blues, better motion, Negatives includes a bit lower overall brightness (but improved with about 25% compared to 2021 OLEDs) and less brilliant greens. The main drawbacks is that this panel will be sold with gamer bling display cases like the new alien ware. Samsung is releasing a slightly curved 42 inch one that looks almost like a screen made by apple in terms of design. Perhaps it is partially thicker due to the heat sinks. Only worry is that Samsung are still to make a monitor without issues.

No need for hdmi for second display if it has TB then just daisy chain it with a other display

At long last and hopefully under £1,200. I currently have a older MacBook Pro and iMac and I’d love to upgrade them to new laptop with a monitor so I can have all my files on one computer and so I don’t have to rely so much on external and cloud storage for sharing files etc.

My next request will cheaper SSD on the laptops 🤞

Insta-buy on the midrange if it will exist. A good monitor is whats keeping me from ditching the laptop form factor all together... Mac Mini for desktop with ipad pro as secondary display/device with a combo of universal control and sidecar. Combines the portability of an ipad with the productivity of a large monitor. A heavy, thick and old-school looking macbook pro max is the worst of two worlds in comparison. For that one or two tasks I can't do easily on an ipad I can either remote desktop or simply wait until I am back at my desk

Agreed... though I'll one up the price to 1,799 or 1,999 (based on premium over the LG)... but the more wrong I am the more thrilled I'll be.
They still need to somehow justify the price. Somewhere between 1000-1500 is my bet.
Why should we buy apple branded if we can get 27” 5k LG branded for 1300?

Not sure that makes sense when the LG 5K is already $1,300. You’ve taken a very optimistic approach to reconciling the conflicting rumours. The other approach, which I’d argue is more likely, is that we get what you have listed as the Studio display, but at the price of what you listed as the Studio display plus.

Very interesting rumors to say the least.

A couple of months ago I wrote about how Apple really needs to re-think the iMac as a concept. Here we are!

Assuming this is true, Apple have chosen to prioritize a new 27" standalone 5K display and headless "Mac Studio" over the long overdue iMac 27". This really speaks numbers. The 24" iMac is clearly not selling.

Why Apple couldn't foresee this is beyond me. The desktop used to offer so many advantages over laptops. Performance, Display Size, Storage Space, Connectivity, and so on. Today's iMac add none of that except display size. I get the exact same performance in a MacBook Air that I can bring anywhere, at which point it makes more sense to just get a separate display.

Speaking of laptops, most employees already have a company issued laptop and with working from home being a thing, people need a large screen to work on. Since Apple were crazy enough not to add Target Display functionality to the iMac, it now means that the iMac is competing with (often prioritized) work setups over expensive living space.

I would have loved to see Apple expand the functionality of the iMac to make it appealing once again. A "Surface Studio" type of device would have appealed to the creatives and content creators. An iMac serving as a "home hub" would have appealed to families all over the world. I even remember an Apple patent years back that allowed you to dock your MacBook by just sliding it into the display.

On the other hand, rumors can oftentimes get the basics right - e.g. form factors and sizing from leaked schematics, but completely misinterpret the device. We've seen it so many times. Now what if this is indeed a new iMac 27"? What if it's called iMac Studio? From the video it appears they only managed to confirm the name of the headless Mac Studio. The "Studio Display" name was just a rumor.

Looking forward to tomorrows event! :)

There could be concessions that allow the new display priced around or even below the LG 5K. But unlikely.

E.g. no webcam, speaker, or mic; not VESA mountable; non-adjustable screen height; only one port.

Apple's long-awaited consumer-level display, reportedly set to be called the "Studio Display," will launch tomorrow during Apple's "Peek Performance" event, according to a new rumor from YouTuber Luke Miani.

In a video showcasing renders alleged to be the upcoming "Mac Studio," Miani also shares renders of the "Studio Display." According to the YouTuber who has an unverified track record when it comes to sharing Apple's plans, the display will measure 27-inches in size with slightly larger bezels than the Pro Display XDR and no rear pattern. The renders show a design similar to Apple's 24-inch iMac, but with a black front bezel and without any visible external ports, although one port would be required for connecting to a computer.

Yesterday, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said he expects Apple to release a consumer-level display in a 27-inch size without mini-LED this year, and if today's rumor turns out to be true, it'll launch as soon as tomorrow. Today's rumor sheds no light on the potential price of the display, but a price tag around $1,000 seems reasonable given its rumored specifications.

Apple's event will kick off at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday, March 8. In addition to being streamed on YouTube, the event can also be watched through the events webpage and in the Apple TV app. If you're unable to watch, you can tune in to MacRumors on the site or through our MacRumorsLive Twitter account. Surely they will not release a new design 27" monitor without also releasing a matching 27" iMac to go with it?!?

Unless it is largely to go together with the Mini, but wouldn't that mean that the new larger iMac could actually be a 32" display, which is what many have been hoping for??

Even if its a re-hash of the LG 5K, but finally updates it to DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC and HBR3 support, then I am in!
