I'd take it with a grain of salt. Generally the people running social for companies don't know a ton about timelines etc. Very good chance they've heard someone talking about it and took it as truth. Likely created a PR nightmare for them today even if it's true as it's unlikely they wanted the announcement to come in the form of a reply to some random Twitter user.

MerchantC Merchants MOSTLY DO turn off NFC

Most CurrentC merchants didn't block anything except for CVS and Rite Aid.

Gee, that would be "slightly" incorrect unless you exclude all of those TINY merchants like:

Walmart
Target
KMart
Lowe's
Home Depot
Wendy's
Kohl's

. . . and those are just the little tiny CurrentC merchants that I have actually tried.

EDIT: Oh, and that small electronics store -- Best Buy?

No Chevrons in the St. Louis area, sadly. I usually like to go to QuikTrip because they have clean stations that are well lit, good prices, and their coffee is good. I wrote to them asking for Apple Pay support, got a form letter, and no changes to their payment terminals or pumps.
http://www.mcx.com/images/merchants/quiktrip.jpg QT is part of MCX so don't them expect Contactless support anytime soon, but you never know at some point down the road. @BigJayhawk The Home Depot is not part of MCX, but their competitor Lowes(http://www.mcx.com/images/merchants/lowes.gif) is. Also some Chevrons do support Contactless at the pump, but most don't.

Coming up next on MacRumors:

"Billy Bob's Discount Beer and Beverage Barn to support Apple Pay starting Q3 2026"

Hmmm, I don't know about the US, but here in Germany gas stations basically only earn the serious money on their shop items, not the fuel they sell.
So if those spontaneous purchases of magazines/etc (granted, not the late-night purchases where people deliberately drive to a gas station) are out of the equation, this might hurt their bottomline, no?

did you think about the couple decades of credit card terminals at the pump before asking this question?

----------

Please continue to post a new story every single time another company integrates Apple Pay into their systems. These stories are endlessly interesting because people with iPhone 6 phones have no other ways to pay for things!

i hope they do -- i wouldnt have known about this being a future option at chevron stations otherwise, Sir Snark-a-lot.

Perhaps it's the future for some but not me. All my UK credit cards have a 'touch to pay' chip integrated into them yet I've never had an urge to use this option. Chip & Pin suits me just fine.

My 'Android phone' has had this tech for some time too. :p

Seems to be the case the U.S. are quite some way behind Europe with CC security and Apple have seen an opportunity to cash in and play catch up.

Now if we can just set preferences in Apple Pay to say "Not a ****ing Vons Member, no I don't want a ****king receipt." Then we're good.

Kidding aside, they initially said end of 2014. Can't wait though.

The ARCO station by my home has excepted Apple Pay since its inseption... doesn't get much cheaper than that. :)

Seriously? All the ARCO's here have 1 central credit card terminal, AND charges fees. Never go there.

So I can get my car jacked and my phone stolen all in one convenient step!

The process for implementing ApplePay is going to be pretty much the same in all states, not that any of us know what that is.

S(he) is referring to the fact that in Oregon (and NJ, still?) you are not allowed (by law) to touch the pump or pump your own gas... which would appear to mean that you will have to hand your iPhone to the Gas Pumping Professional so (s)he can execute the ApplePay transaction for you.

I'm guessing he's referring to the fact that Oregon, as well as New Jersey, don't permit customers to pump their own gas.

Edit: Forgive my redundancy, I overlooked the obvious reply above.

Not before your fingers are forcibably removed while they're at it, so they can access your phone. All 5 of them to be exact, in case any of them gives them "try again" errors. :D

The difference in Oregon is that there is no self-service station, the law requires that only station attendants can pump gas, which means you are typically expected to hand the attendant your payment from your car window. They then take your card and run it through the island terminal.

Oregon stations will either have to have ApplePay customers get out of their car to go pay, or the attendants will have to get handheld terminals. At some point handheld NFC terminals will probably be commonplace, but it'll take Oregon longer to be NFC compatible because of this.

I look forward to being one step closer to being able to go places without my wallet.

I will be picking up an iPhone 6 next week and Apple Pay is something I am extremely interested in trying.
