Chevron Apple Pay

This will be in store only. Saw the Memo as friend works for Corp.

Go into store and pay, walk out and pump. then go back in if you over paid.

No thanks. Will use Debt/CC at pump.

Fail.

They already have NFC in store.

Are you're saying the memo you saw is proof that the Chevron rep's tweet is a lie?
@SingAsana We are working alongside Apple to develop solutions to integrate with Apple Pay at the pump by early 2015.

Apple Pay/CC automatically refunds any overpaid charges as someone already stated above.

Gee, that would be "slightly" incorrect unless you exclude all of those TINY merchants like:

Walmart
Target
KMart
Lowe's
Home Depot
Wendy's
Kohl's

. . . and those are just the little tiny CurrentC merchants that I have actually tried.

EDIT: Oh, and that small electronics store -- Best Buy?

Home Depot and some Walmarts work fine. The rest didn't block anything, they don't even have NFC equipment.

Best Buy turned theirs off before Apple Pay was even invented. They also use ancient equipment as is.

The only fail here is your reading comprehension skills.

We don't pump our gas in Jersey... we pump our fists :D

But seriously, I doubt people would want to give their phone to the pump attendant to pay.

Also, how would the attendant pay? They would need to have their fingerprint registered on your phone if you were to just just hand your pone to them for them to pay...

Is it going to be a front page news story every time a vendor decides to accept Apple pay?

that is going to get boring really fast...it already is.

Yes... and I hope they keep writing them.

Every day that passes and every article about a new store that uses Apple Pay is just showing how CurrentC is falling further behind.

:)

And cue the people who will say,

Cue the people who say don't say "Cue the people..."

Until that first explosion at the pump... That would be interesting. I don't know if it's rumor or not... Those vapors seem pretty dangerous to me!

My Shell Gas station in Tokyo was literally un-manned. It was 11 pm the pumps all worked but there was no one there. I could not believe it. All I could figure was that there was someone remotely monitoring the station somewhere else and had a kill switch if he needed it.

It say a lot about Tokyo doesn't it.

I hope the pump experience gets an overall while they're at it. Most pumps require far too many steps. It really annoys me that you have to wait until your card has processed to press what type of gas you want.

Well that's a shame. When I first read the article, my first thought was, "alrighty, time to switch to Chevron then!"

So if those spontaneous purchases of magazines/etc (granted, not the late-night purchases where people deliberately drive to a gas station) are out of the equation, this might hurt their bottomline, no?

But how is that any different from today, where people pay with their credit card at the pump?

Unrecognized benefit

One of the little recognized benefits of Apple Pay is that you do not need to handle the thermal paper receipts. Most thermal papers have a coating that contains BPA, which is a suspected mutagen and teratogen. A wallet or purse full of receipts has the potential to be a major source of exposure - and one that we can now avoid with Apple Pay.

Shhesh Chevron and Texaco (though there are no more Texaco's around) were waaaay more expensive than even Shell and Exxon... I don't see supporting Apple Pay helping them get more customers (in my area).

True Apple loyalists will gladly pay a higher price just so they can use Apple Pay.

No self service in Jersey? In my town in Canada they just got rid of the last Full Serve station. It's an issue for people with limited mobility.
Not only is not available, you are nit allowed to operate the pump, even if you wanted to

What is this "pump attendant" of which you speak?
A person that typically has a booth near the pumps and operates the pump

"Billy Bob's Discount Beer and Beverage Barn to support Apple Pay starting Q3 2026"

Chevron is the biggest oil company and the second most valuable company after apple, so yea this is news worthy

Do you REALLY have to include that after your posts? Really?

Nope.

did you think about the couple decades of credit card terminals at the pump before asking this question?
[...]

Well, as my post has shown I'm from Germany and self-checkout pumps aren't common over here at all.

Fair point though.

Still think it might hit their margin a bit (?), but all I can do is speculate.

Not sure why people keep saying this. Apple Pay is no different from regular card transactions in this regard. It does not currently have the capability to transmit proper receipts electronically. In particular, the recent transactions shown in passbook are no replacement for receipts. They cannot be used as proof in a dispute (since they lack transaction numbers and other details) and are generally not reliable, as even Apple cautions:

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201469
Why is my transaction amount sometimes reported differently in Passbook?

Some banks provide only initial authorization amounts to Passbook, which might be different from the final transaction amount. Depending on your bank, you might see different transaction amounts from locations such as restaurants, gas service stations, hotels, and car rental companies. Always refer to the credit or debit card statement from your bank for final transaction details.

Meh. As much as I love using Apple Pay, I'm gonna pass on Chevron when down the street its 50¢ cheaper
Yeah, around here the Chevron stations have consistently the highest prices. Also, I really doubt that anywhere near all stations will be equipped with NFC-enabled pumps anytime soon. According to Chevron, they operate about 8,000 stations in the US, which probably translates to more than 30,000 pumps that need to be converted ...

Bummer! This does me no good. I am not going to get two kids out of the car and drag them into the store with a bunch of soda, candy, gum, and chips in it to use Apple Pay. Even I am not that dedicated. ;).
