I just cannot believe that Apple would start to haemorrhage parts in the volume and quality (image) that we've been seeing, especially after Tim's statement to double down on security.

As more and more phones are produced, more and more people involved in designing and producing them. If that number doubles, "security" measured would also have to double just to keep up. And if you assume the the first workers hired are the "more trusted" ones, than any subsequent hire would be "less trusted" and thus leaks would go up. It's not like these are being produced in a shed by 5 people whose wives are being held hostage. Even adding new parts probably leads more/different companies being involved in the project. I'm really surprised by how secret they still manage to keep things, given how much interest and money there is in exposing it, and the number of people that could expose it.

The owner of a small specialty flashlight company that I knew told the story of how he went to China for meetings on possibly moving production there from the US and before his plane landed back in the states, there were knockoffs of his product already on eBay.
:p

The wonders of naming products

I shiver by the thought of having to speak into a Goophone. Let alone having to touch it. That said, I hope their goo is patented. I'd hate it if the goo was a rip-off.

This is why you shouldn't say you are going to DOUBLE DOWN on secrecy of products Tim!

That and it is just a stupid cliché term in the industry.

Is it just me or has Apple's ability to control leaks totally gone down the tubes since Jobs passed? Seriously, for a company that once managed to have dramatic unveilings of products nobody had seen before, it's pretty embarrassing to have some crappy Android clone come out 2 weeks prior to the real thing. Unless this is all an elaborate decoy, which would be most impressive.

Miss those magical keynotes where we were truly wowed and amazed!

I'm not gonna judge the 'doubling down' until we actually see the next gen iPHONE; but if it looks at all like any of those leaked pictures/mock-ups or what have you, it'll be kind of a letdown for many of us! :(

Security by distraction.

The best we can hope for! :):):)

All that is is rounded corners and a rectangle. Everyone knows you can't patent that.

You, and many others, need to learn about trademark and trade dress. What's illegal, or tortious, is copying anything so you can actually mistake one for the other. Or even to make something that looks enough like the product that it steals sales. Compete with quality and price, take you pick. Can't compete by copying.

Along the way to proving their case, Apple would say, take a look at similarities. It's not that "rounded rectangles" are patentable, but they were claiming that it was copying the successful iPhone in many ways, starting with the rectangle with the grid of icons. Would that along have convicted Samsung? No. The emails convicted Samsung.

Maybe they should name it PoohPhone since it has only a 3.5-inch screen and a 5 megapixel main camera.

Ironic the fake is out before the real thing, unless the rumors prove to be false.

Apple should be suing these companies!

Uh, for what? Putting together the pieces that leaked of Apple? It's not like they're selling them as phones.

I like the Bee.

But wait! Isn't that similarly looking to the android icon?

Uuuh, this will be a complicated court case.

Considering the fact that Apple hasn't come out with any original design ideas since the first Iphone 4, I'm not sure why anybody would go out and copy an unoriginal design.

Once again apple sends parts around the world so they can be copied before the official launch. I am just amazed at how fast copies are made when it seems to take a year or so to get an apple branded product. Samsung were masters at it.
Apple would probably loose in Chinese courts though.

China has courts? from what i've been told you don't get much "trial" there
