Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I think this has been said to no end, but it keeps proving to be true :D

I just got the iPhone 16 yesterday. In the maybe 3 hours total that I've held or picked up the phone, I have unintentionally hard pressed the Camera Button about ten times. I'm very thankful to Apple for permitting disabling this stupid button.

They’re all dumb enough to copy a gimmick garbage feature.

You actually have to actively force yourself to use the camera capture button and in doing so definitely slow yourself down lmao.

It’s comical how bad Apple is at this point. I’d fire everyone who had anything to do with that button including Tim if I could. Just all stupid people honestly. But they are the people who brought us such moronic features as Distracting Island and Peek and Pop so….its understandable.
I love the Dynamic Island. It’s one of the most useful upgrades for me coming from an iPhone without it. Same goes for the action button and the camera control button. Those three features made my 13 Pro to 16 Pro upgrade a huge one for me.

The fact that I can be using my phone (reading Macrumors for example) and then click the camera control button to almost instantly pull up the camera makes it much faster to capture images. It also helps in situations where I have to take a picture at an awkward angle.

I also use the action button almost daily (mainly flashlight). It’s very convenient to be able to do some things without having to look at the screen.

Putting gimmick-like features aside, let's talk about spec-based features like 4K video recording at 120 frames per second:

Why must they wait for Apple to do it first?

At best, even if it's just pure coincidence, so many chinese smartphone manufacturers choosing to include similar spec bumps after the iPhone 16's release simply paints them in a bad light.

Same with the Dynamic Island - I find it extremely useful and love the interaction - but I do miss the days when I could just slip my hand in my pocket and be able to feel if the phone was on silent or not. Maybe only a small thing but having to take it out the pocket to check can be a PITA so I dont really feel much love for, or use, the action button.

Maybe if it hadn't been crippled by not allowing double tap or hold to add multiple actions I would find it more useful.

It's not when their CPU is coal fired.
lmao i was waiting for those type of comments. "Coal fired CPU" when some tests showed that Dimensity 9400 was using basically the same amount of power while phone was colder to touch compared to A18 Pro but that's not what I'm talking about!

What I meant is that Apple could easily put larger batteries in regular Pro iPhone and deliver the same battery life like the Pro Max iPhone but they won't because they want more money and they know people want the best battery life so they'll spend more cash for a more expensive phone.

I really don't understand why some of y'all are "hurt" and quick to comment about "coal fired CPUs" or the difference in battery life between iPhones and Androids when that's not what I'm talking about lol I'm not even android user, I just said that I wish apple put bigger batteries in their phones as the technology is already there.

That doesn't even apply just to Apple, this also applies to other brands like Samsung that puts 5000 mah battery in Ultra phones.

Sony and Samsung already had an extra button years ago. But Samsung used it for bixy (their smart assistant) then got rid of it. Samsung now uses double click power button to bring up their camera.

Yep. The comments making it seem like Apple made some breakthrough and everyone copied them. If anything Apple is always late to the party, they just bring refinement to their implementations and give them a silly or cringy name like “magic-something” or Apple Intelligence.

Maybe Samsung learned their lesson with the Note 7. I don’t believe there’s a nefarious scheme going on where Apple and Samsung are purposely putting smaller batteries in phones to make the battery life shorter. They spend millions of dollars trying to design the best phone that’s also safe. If you think you can design a better phone than they can, I’d say start up a business. It’s not hard with Kickstarter nowadays.

The Oppo Find X8 will likely be the international version of the Vivo 200 Pro (chinese/asian market), announced just today (see Gsmarena or the like for reviews). Features a 6.78" display and 6000 mAh battery, but there is a Vivo 200 Pro Mini with same specs and just 6.31" display and 5700 mAh battery. Looks great imho. Chinese giant BBK holds OnePlus, Oppo, Realme... Vivo legally split from BBK, but for some reason they keep issuing more-than-similar models.

“We’re gonna copy this feature, good or bad!”

As fiddly as the camera control button is I’m surprised they copied it. It’s not great/too information-dense to be obvious; much prefer the onscreen button

That is sound. I really want these competing chips to put pressure on Apple.

Another pointless argument that has nothing to do with what I said. Have I ever said that I can or want to design a better phone? No.
What I said is that by looking at other companies, the technology has matured enough that they would be able to put larger batteries while being safe for customers. That would benefit customers that don't want to use phones with 6.9" displays but of course won't benefit companies.
No one's asking them to put 7000 mah battery in 6.3" phone but even Google was able to put larger battery in Pixel 9 Pro and make the phone's battery life comparable to Pixel 9 Pro Max or whatever it's called

Actually it's more that the battery is smaller in the smaller phone. And the battery is larger in the larger phone.

Or, a much better idea, make the phone a little thicker to get rid of the bump, and use that extra room for more battery. Apple could make a phone that lasts at least 3 days if they did that!
Nah, no thanks. I actually miss how thin the X and 11 were. I'm hopeful that the pendulum swings back that way.

Lmao you understand that it saves no time right? You can swipe down Notification Center or control center and open the camera instantly.

And you put flashlight on the action button? Lmao Jesus. The flashlight is on the Notification Center or the lock screen or control center and accessed instantly as well.

The action button is for far better actions like say starting a playlist, or turning on/off smart lights, or opening an app, like mine opens ChatGPT which is 1.5 billion times better than Siri.

It’s justifying the purchase. Let’s be honest, I’ve got a 13 pro max and a 16 pro max for work. It’s a meaningless upgrade all the way around unless you’re scrounging up ideas to justify spending 1k on a new phone.

Sure, and Apple never copied Android ever. Android had live photos years before iPhone, same with always on display, copy and paste, shortcuts, multiple cameras, HDR photos and video, control center, notification panel, etc etc. Most of what we take for granted on iOS was done by Android first, usually years in advance.

I like the new camera button. The difference isn’t that there is a button, but what that button and slider can do. It works very well.

Also the change from an iPhone 13 Pro to iPhone 16 Pro is much more than I thought. I love the Dynamic Island as well. And the camera is better in many ways. The speakers are at a different level. To me it’s a great upgrade.
